Zoraida has a preference for extremely ornate jewelry (even if she can’t afford the best jewels on a Courtesan’s pay.) She often makes it herself, to save money. She wears ornate red silk saris, most of which have been given to her as gifts.

Zoraida was abandoned by her mother a few days after her birth. She was raised, until she was thirteen, by her father Rotal, a wealthy merchant in Fallien. He always had distain for Zoraida, which she clearly felt from the time she was young. She was beaten often, and told her mother left because she could not stand the sight of her.
When Zoraida was thirteen, her father found her kissing the son of an elf who had come to trade with him. She was actually feeding from the boy’s desire, but, luckily she was interrupted before she did any real damage. Furious, Rotal said “If you are going to behave like a whore, so be it.” And sold Zoraida to the Garden of the Courtesans.
Surprisingly, Zoraida found the Garden to be a much happier home than the one her father made for her. Courtesans in Fallien were well respected, and thought of as higher in class than merchants, only lower than the priestesses of Suvarani. In the garden, she learned not only the arts of seduction, but reading, writing, history, art and music. She became close friends with many of her fellow pupils.
The first time she slept with a client, it was a young merchant from a far off land. She entered the room, and was immediately overcome with feeling. It was as if everything the man ever wanted was laid before her. As they made love, she was overcome with images of his homeland. Of a girl he left behind, of the sea, of a family of fishermen, and when she climaxed and fell onto him, she was horrified to find him dead. She screamed and women immediately ran into the room chattering, and fell silent, looking knowingly at the scene. Ellyriana explained that the only thing Succubi had to fear were Harpies. “We are of the same blood. The Harpies, foul and ugly, feeding on children’s youth, and the succubi, beautiful, and graceful feeding on desire. They envy us, for we live among the humans, where they are feared and hated.”
Zoraida had heard of the Harpies before, but had never seen one. They stole children by night from their beds and devoured them whole.

She’s used her cunning to rise to be the best of the young apprentices, and is the favorite to be the head courtesan when Ellyriana retires.
