Pyralis, Level 0

Basics

Name: Pyralis
Age: Young
Race: Dark elf
Skin Color: Warm medium brown, violet undertones
Hair Color: Ash blonde
Eye Color: Pale lilac
Height: 5'5"
Weight: 110#
Occupation: Vagrant, mad scientist

Personality:

A shrewd misanthrope, Pyr isn't particularly good at first impressions. Behind that awkward exterior, however, hide vast intelligence and boundless determination, making her an underdog to be reckoned with. She was tempered in the less than savory underbelly of Ettermire and it shows in how difficult it is to earn her trust.

Appearance:

At first glance, one might underestimate her slight build and delicate features, but if one looks closely, she doesn't simply walk –– she prowls. There is more than meets the eye to the waif, if a person cares to look close enough. It can be difficult to tell her age, her build and ageless elven complexion hinting at adolescence, but there's a sharp wisdom to her often uncharacteristic of someone so young. She wears a hodgepodge of found clothing and very much looks the part of hobo, but she maintains a meticulousness about her person which betrays hints as to her history before she fell into street life. She is ambidextrous.

Skills

Language:

She is fluent in Aleran and Tradespeak.

Music:

This is her guilty pleasure. She seems to know her way around a few different instruments, though her limited access has her pretty rusty in most.

Alchemy & Pseudosciences:

Pyr puts that impressive intellect to use in her various inventions and tinkering. As far as the technical goes, if she doesn't know how to do it already, give her a bit of time and she'll sure as hell figure it out. Complex projects are at the mercy of what resources are available, and she constantly seeks new knowledge.

Fisticuffs:

She's scrappy, but that's not all; any object can become a weapon in her practiced hand.

Sharps:

She's pretty darn good at throwing pointy things and stabbing people with them. She's also crafty with shiv-making and has developed her own little arsenal of diverse, many-purposed creations.

Street Survivalism:

She has more than street smarts: she is adept at street survival, the industrial landscape of Ettermire no less perilous than the deserts of Fallien if a body finds itself in the wrong place at the wrong time. Much of this carries over into new urban environments.

Abilities

Tough Cookie:

Pyralis can handle twice the amount of damage of an average human before it significantly impedes her actions, making her a gnarly little thing.

Berserker:

When she gets stressed, upset, or otherwise emotionally compromised –– not a difficult thing to manage, mind you –– she earns a surge of strength, to twice that of an average human.

Mutant:

Pyralis appears to have limited use of her right arm and hand, generally keeping this limb fully covered. Not many have seen what it looks like and most assume it's lame. However, when used in combat, it functions as a blunt weapon covered in 8mm/.31 inches of steel-equivalent organic material (picture heavy armor). It is very difficult to puncture or slash, absorbs most trauma relatively harmlessly, and her right hook is a real bitch. This mutation has affected the dexterity of her joints in that limb, however, and she is unable to use it for detail-oriented tasks such as writing.

Equipment

Shivs:

She always keeps at least two blades on her: one larger, serrated dagger, and one or more small homemade shivs. All are steel or equivalent.

Flute:

Pyr owns a six-hole flageolet. It's tarnished and worn beyond any semblance of value, but she covets it all the same.

Portable Lab:

She has very few belongings, one of which is a small briefcase. It contains the bare minimum of supplies to take samples and conduct simple research. (Not a combat/selling thing.)

History

Pyralis always stood out, earning a position of leadership in her community of cast-off children not with charisma, but intelligence. Now that Helethra has carved a safe niche out of the sewers for the youths, however, Pyr has an opportunity to make use of her brain and put her energy into seeking a cure for the more concerning mutations. Whereas Helethra believes their differences should be celebrated, Pyralis recognizes that some of the modifications are more curses than gifts, including her own.

I can't allow the arm to be completely made out of steel, because steel as thick and as maneuverable as an arm would not only be nearly impossible to damage (even high tier metals don't go through other metals without difficulty), but also realistically very difficult to wield effectively without significant strength. Think about it, the head of a railroad track is about as thick as a human arm and made out of steel, and it's incredibly heavy. I could allow it to be fully made of steel if the dexterity is significantly impaired, meaning that it would be very difficult to wield and swing around, especially for longer periods of time, and the sheer momentum would put you off balance more often than not. Alternatively, you can have it covered by a thick layer of steel.

Quite fair, I pictured it covered by a steel-equivalent organic material (there's live flesh in there somewhere, and there is a reason she doesn't really use that arm much unless the Berserker strength kicks in). Not sure what an appropriate thickness would be, but I'm happy to edit at your recommendation.

Medieval plate armor was about 3 or 4 mm thick (more or less). I figure I could allow a bit more since there are much more things here that can hurt you that in medieval times, so let's say twice that? 8mm or... what is it, a third of an inch? That would still give it considerable weight for punching, but leaving it relatively vulnerable.
