View Full Version : A New Element to Master

Rehtul walked into the bookstore, his brow furrowed. While he was pleased with his current mastery of the element known simply as ice, he felt that it left severe holes in his defensive and offensive abilities. He could feel the blood coursing through his veins more rapidly at the thought and commited himself to the one course of action he had available. Being unskilled in physical combat, he would enter one of the pricier bookstores in Radasanth and do what he had to do to keep his tactical edge.

He perused the shelves easily, his eyes scanning the shelves for any magical tomes worth buying. He had been in the store countless times, but never with his spending money. He always kept track of what they had in stock so that he could come in when they had something worth his time, at least from the appearance of his cover. The owner had a strict "you read it you buy it" policy which made the young mage certain there were books in the store capable of transferring their knowledge by a mere peek at the pages. He wasn't entirely sure, though, as he and the old man had shared very few words in the many times he had visited the shop.

He finally allowed his eyes to stop upon the very cause of his return to the shop today, the reason he had seen fit to fish out his savings. He wasn't sure how much the book would cost, but he considered it well worth the price if he could have another of his father's famous books in his possession. He pulled the tome from the shelf and held it in his hands.

Elemental Wind by Succed Orlouge. This book would be able to teach him, over time, how to manipulate the free-spirited element known as the air, and it would fill a substantial number of holes in his own ability to defend himself and those around him. He knew that no matter what the price, he would have to learn this spell type at some point. Better sooner than later. He brought it to the counter and laid it down, waiting for the old man to look up from his own book.

"How much for this one?" he asked, a hint of reserve in his voice.

The old man looked up, his glasses sliding rather far down his nose as he scrunched it.

"Oh, well, that is of course Elemental Wind by none other than an Orlouge. What could you possibly want with this?"

He was clearly not a pleasant person, nor was he intent on selling any goods. That probably more than anything played a big part in why his shop was devoid of population, while other book shops nearby were simply bustling.

"If you inside on purchasing this one, it will be two hundred fifty gold pieces. It is one of my most prized books, and I am not desiring to sell it to just anyone."
