Timmareus

Name: Timmareus Carths
Age: 24
Race: Human
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Brown
Height: 5'8"
Weight: 138 lbs.
Occupation:Scholar/Alchemist

Personality:
Timmareus follows one purpose in life: To learn what others have forgotten and noone has learned before, and then write a book about it.
Be it strange creatures, ancient ruins or unusual geological formations, as long as it is obscure and exotic enough to impress an expert he will brave almost any danger and take notes meticulously. This leaves him with little common ground for small talk with the average person, often leading to him seeming cold or disinterested. He is quite cordial if engaged with however, though he cannot always fully hide his feeling of superiority towards those he perceives to be of lesser intelligence than himself. Timmareus is often lost in thought when nothing catches his academic interest.

Appearance: Timmareus is a slender young man with dull black hair that ends just above the eyebrows in the front and barely covers the neck in the back. He wears a thick brown woolen robe regardless of the weather, with a large numer of pouches sewn into the inner side.
The steel glint of a simple chainshirt can be seen flashing from under the folds whenever he fiddles with the contents of his robe,
the rest of his body safely hidden beneath. His face would be considered plain by most human standards, featuring a rather pasty teint and eyes
that often seem unfocused on his surroundings. His right hand usually carries a six foot oaken staff, the last half foot wrapped in steel.

Skills:
Alchemical lore: Knows how to identify and extract common ingredients useful for alchemy.

Staff fighting: Basic training, can use the staff's reach to defensive advantage against most melee attacks.

Historical knowledge: Knows the history of Corone in detail and the most important events of the other major nations.

Floral knowledge: Knows the general properties of the common plants of the inhabited areas of the world and most of the plant life of
Corone.

Faunal knowledge: Knows the general habits of the common creatures of the inhabited areas of the world and most of the animals of
Corone.

Glassblowing: Can use moldblowing to produce simple glass containers.

Abilities:
Linguistics: Thanks to his knack for languages and knowledge of many ancient dialects Timmareus can extrapolate at least the gist of any given written message, and anything spoken as long as he has time enough to dwell on it (so this ability is not useful for overhearing a conversation), though misinterpetations are still possible.

Alchemy: He can mix up alchemical substances and knows how to imbue them with ambient magical energy to increase their potency, thus generally being able to work with a minimum of tools and ingredients.
At the moment this is limited to creating the highly flammable substance sometimes known as alchemist's fire as well as weak poisons and slippery liquids, none of them lethal unless used in great amounts.

Eye for Detail: Years of being trained to spot and record every detail have left Timmareus with an uncanny eye for noticing things others might miss. As long as he is focused on his surroundings he can usually pick out anything that stands out.

Equipment:
-woolen robe with pouches sewn in
-steel chain shirt
-oaken staff with steel tip
-leather pants
-steel-toed leather boots

History:
Timmareus was born in Radasanth as the second son of a family of soldiers of the Corone Armed Forces.
With his older brother following in their father's footsteps he was allowed to pursue an academical career with only a minimum of paternal resistance.
Growing up an intellectual with an older brother in the army left Timmareus more resolute than would fit the archetype
of a sophisticated learned man. Receiving his fair share of sibling rivalry from his much more athletic older brother,
he came to understand that the best ways to fight a battle are to avoid it altogether or, if failing that, to employ a large club.

During his studies he showed a knack for ancient languages as well as alchemy, along with the curiosity and intelligence required to
pursue any given subject. The rigid structures of academia however soon made him feel underappreciated,
making him yearn for recognition until he eventually decided to take action and carve his name into the history books.
His goal became to go farther than any scholar had ever gone before, documenting the truth he would seek out himself rather than relying
on the embellished accounts of entertainers and the occasional scrap of history unearthed by chance by ignorant adventurers.

Especially his mother was at first dead set to letting her youngest run off on his own into the world, but eventually made her peace with the fact her son would not be persuaded.
While his father could often be heard grumbling about "stupid fancies", he nonetheless sent Timmareus off with a new chainshirt to protect him on his travels. Thus equipped with steel and his wits he left his home behind and set out on the road to the unknown.

Does he do alchemy on the fly, like being able to use it in the midst of battle for immediate effect, or does he have to prepare beforehand?

He has to prepare it beforehands, so ideally he'll generally have some standard stuff on hand later on and mix up more specific things outside of combat when needed.
