View Full Version : The Huntress

Yuichi Inoue
07-19-13, 04:45 PM
Name: Yuichi Inoue
Age: 19
Race: Akashiman (Human)
Sex: Female
Height: 5'1
Weight: 105 lbs
Eye Colour: Hazel
Hair Colour: Midnight black

Appearance: Like most Akashiman's, Yui is slight of size and slim of figure. She has more muscle mass than the average girl because of the hard training her father put her through, but it's compact and as such she still retains a female shape. She has a heart shaped face, accentuated by her widows peak, and a small crescent shaped scar under her left eye from when her bow string broke and lashed back at her. She keeps her raven black hair long, but usually tied back. Her hands are callused and scared like that of a man's. She prefers to wear the short yukata's that the boy's favour, simply because it makes running through the woods that much easier. But she can occasionally be found in a woman's yukata or even a kimono should the moment call for it.

Skills:

Hunting and Tracking - Above Average - as a hunter, Yui has above average skills when it comes to tracking game through almost any kind of terrain, though she has more practice through the woodlands. Her years of experience have taught her how to distinguish old tracks from new, the age and health of an animal and what kind of animal it is. She can move through the woods as quietly as a saberlioness and as fluidly as a snake, stalking her prey. These skills can be put to use on humans as well, which she has done when assisting in the search for lost travelers around Ninyama Village. Yui also knows how to make and mend her own hunting equipment too, including making a bow and arrows.

Archery - Above Average - Yui's father taught her the basics of archery from a young age and it is her greatest joy and passion. To her nothing feels better then releasing the pent up tension on the tight string of a long or short bow and watching her arrow cut through the air. Though of only average skill right now, Yui has the impressive ability to keep her hands and arms steady even in the high adrenaline pursuit of an animal.

Survival - Average - growing up at the base of the mountains and so near the untamed woods surrounding Ninyama, Yui was taught survival techniques from a young age. She knows how to start fire without flint or fluid, how to take care of minor cuts, burns and broken bones. More importantly, she knows how read her surroundings and the star constellations to prevent her from getting lost.

Abilities:

Fire Affinity

Sunlight - the light of the sun invigorates Yui. Should she ever feel depressed or tired, all she need do is find a patch of sunlight and feel the gentle touch of it on her skin for a time to feel revived once more. This is not an endless ability. Like all people Yui needs sleep and rest, the sun merely fills her with energy. The absence of sun has the opposite effect on her. If she is without it for long periods of time she grows lethargic and depressed and shows little interest in things that she often loves. During the rainy season, she has been known to get moody and depressed with the clouds cover the sky for days on end.

Cleansing Fire - though Yui cannot create her own fire, she can manipulate other fire to cleanse and heal people; including herself. She can cleanse poisons and sickness and heal wounds, even life threatening ones. To do this, she will reach into a fire and pull apart of it away, pushing her own energy into it. This she lays over the area, the flames eating away the infection and binding the skin. The person feels only a gentle warmth, though Yui does experience some heat and pain when she reaches into the fire initially, it usually does not burn her. This ability is exhausting and leaves her quite weak, making it impossible for her to completely heal someone more than once without resting. She can heal multiple wounds of lesser amounts a couple times before she needs to rest though.

Second Sight - Ever since she was a child, Yuichi has been able to see spirits from time to time and communicate with them. Most of the spirits she sees are weaker and unable to hide themselves from her. Spirits also seem strangely attracted to her in ways that are not always good. They can be mischievous to down right cruel, depending on their mood. Though she tries to take their games as just that, even when they rearrange her room, destroy her favourite yukata or cause her to fall and injure herself.

Weapons:

Yew Recurve Bow - smaller and more compact than the long bow, though just as deadly, Yui prefers this weapon for hunting. It allows her easy movement through the trees, where as she found the long bow would occasionally tangle in the vines and branches. This bow used to belong to her father when he was a member of the guard.
Quiver and 20 steel tipped arrows

Tanto - Though not adept at fighting with a blade, she carries one for field dressing animals, personal grooming and any other need she may find for it.

Armour:

Leather Arm Guard - a leather arm guard specifically designed for archers. The leather covers the inside of her forearm to protect from the string striking against the skin. Straps wrap around her forearm holding it in place. Being right handed, she wears it on the left.

History: Yui was born in a small village called Amori, the closest dwelling to that of the now sacred site of Ninyama. The village is mainly a farming, fishing and hunting community, though at certain times of the year it can get a high number of travelers stopping through on their way to Ninyama. Her father oft runs a sort of inn or lodging out of their back guest house during these times and she assists with the daily chores.

Her mother died in child birth and her father, wanting a male heir so badly, named her Yuichi (which means brave first son) even though she was a girl. He raised her as best he could, but he raised her like a boy. Once she could walk, he had her out in the fields with him, out hunting and fishing.

In his youth, Yui's father was a member of the guard and thus wanted her to follow in his footsteps. But she showed very little skill with the sword and instead fell in love with the bow. This seemed to both sadden and please him and he took great pride in teaching her how to hunt and stalk the many different kinds of animals in the forest, mountains and fields of Akashima. He taught her to respect nature and to kill an animal for survival reasons only and never for enjoyment. To kill cleanly and quickly and thank the spirit of the animal for it's sacrifice.

As a child she fit in with the boys more than the girls and seemed more than happy to wrestle and play with them and come home muddy and scraped up rather then stay pretty like most of the girls in the village. Because of her tomboyish nature, she got in many fights with the girls and was often tormented by them in class.

At the age of 6 she single-handedly killed her first deer. An amazing feat for any hunter. By 10 she was better with a bow than half the men in her village, including her dad.

On her 15th birth day, she killed a saberlionness as it mauled her father.

They were out hunting together deep in the forest, a trip to celebrate her coming into adulthood. While sitting around their camp, eating their evening meal, they were set upon by a saberlionness. Her father quickly grabbed the beasts attention away from her and sword in hand, tried to scare the mighty creature away.

Yui watched in amazement as her father leapt and dodged the long reaching paws and viciously sharp teeth of the saberlionness. But it was only a matter of time. One good hit sent him flying back into a tree, his chest and stomach rendered from the massive claws. When the beast pounced on her father to make the finishing blow, instinct kicked in. She drew her bow and loosed three arrows in quick succession. One hit the shoulder, the other pierced the lungs and finally the third tore through the beasts heart. Killing the mighty creature.

She also discovered her affinity for fire that day. As her dad lay dying in their camp, panic stricken and knowing his wounds far beyond her, Yui reached into the flames of their camp fire to grab a hot ember, anything to cauterize the wounds and stop the blood flow. Only the flames leapt up her arms. Confused and scared, she watched them dance across her skin, their presence a fire hot coal that did not burn her. Turning back to her father, she laid her hands along the wounds covering his chest and stomach and watched in amazement as the flames licked and spread across his whole body, leaving healthy skin in their wake.

She passed out from the exertion. In the morning, she was awakened by her dad with a gentle nudge on the shoulder. When he asked what had happened and she told him, he proclaimed it a gift from the spirits themselves and told her to use it carefully and wisely.

The hide of the saberlionness lays across the foot of her bed, a constant reminder of what she almost lost that day; and what she gained.

During her 18th year she became engaged to Saburo, the village chief's third son. Their wedding is set to take place this year during the week long harvest festival, so that they may have the best of luck and most abundance of happiness during their marriage.

I need some clarifications on the abilities.

Is the rejuvenation effect of Sunlight endless? Meaning, she could basically run indefinitely and never tire as long as there's a sun up?

Also, about the Cleansing Fire. She can only heal a single wound/affliction? Meaning the fire isn't a full heal kind of thing, that repairs all damage. Because that would be too much.

No the effect of the sun is not endless, like any person she gets tired. What I generally mean is that it invigorates her. She's hardier in the sunlight, tires slower. I edited it and hopefully that clarifies the sunlight thing more.

The cleansing fire I was hoping to keep rather strong, since she basically has no fighting abilities and I put a limit to the use of it. But if it's too much, I can tone it down. With sadness. My thoughts were if it was already healing the major wound, why not take care of the scraps and cuts as well?

My problem with the Cleansing Fire is that it gives you a chance to fully heal twice. Meaning, if you're in a LCC tournament, where the battle is two-on-two, you both can basically be beaten within an inch to death, and you'd still be able to bring both back to full health. And that's a huge advantage, especially since you can stave off healing until the very last moment and bring you both back fully.

How about a compromise? You can heal once fully, or you can localize usage, healing up to three moderate wounds. That way you can still evade deadly wounds, but at a cost, or you can use it to heal up lesser wounds. Does that sounds fair? This way, I'd even allow you to lose the drawback.

I did not even think of using the ability in such a way, thanks for the idea. :p

I have made the appropriate changes, I hope it is to your liking now.
