Hey can you guys help me compile a list of creatures that are known to be in Althanas?
I know of:
Goblins
Spiders
Dragons
Merpeople
Giant Rats

Griffons, Giants, Fae, Half-Dragons, High, Dark, Hummel and Sea Elves...

Akashima, in Corone, has your typical array of Japanese mythological beasts; oni, kami, and everything like that.

Fallien has harpies, nirrakal beasts, ant lions, and sand wyrms.

Scout the Wiki for other ideas :)

I believe he is asking more about animals such as wolves and eagles.

That's what I love about Althanas, lads.

You can add any animal you damn well please.

Bobcat eagle mountain lions. That odd rhino thing. And the harpies. Then the other stuff

We need to make a beastiary. But then we'd need mods for it. And I have no time to recruit mods.

Yeah Beastiary would be good. If you need me to I'll be willing to monitor it, just to make sure that it is not just a random one that someone has only used once. It would help for my laboratory on Grace, which I will be opening up to the public when Grond finishes taking over.

Aye, I can picture an island full of zombies drawing in plenty of tourists after what happened in Raiaera. :P

And we don't need a bestiary, because you can make whatever sort of creature you want. Some of the wikis mention specific creatures, but apart from that, it;s up to you to decide what you want.

Why would you want to limit yourself?

Don't forget, Grond's the leader of this hoard, and he is letting some of the humans live, mostly for his own gain, but still.

Plus there is:
Gerca, The city of scientists where you can hunt any animal imaginable.
Geminia, The city with two personalities.
Shilval, A Military Establishment that houses a labyrinth that is near impossible to escape without knowing your way around, also guarded by golems.
Vap, The entrance to the Vampire Path, which Leads to Vampire Keep which in turn lets you meet one of my future characters, Silvidar the Vampire.
The Capital City of Tentona, A mountain city that houses the only university on the island, also a place to learn any skill you want.
There is a Quest from Vex as well as Bec and Doson.

There is still lots to do in Grace. Just don't attack the zombies and you'll be fine. After all, Grond said to keep the peace and protect the rest of the locals, so that's what they will do. Oh and no one under ten will be bitten from now on. Grond learned his lesson in Fom about that.

Why spare the children?

Other people have morals! Use them as a weapon against your enemies- Kidnap a town's children, turn them, let them loose back into the town to eat their parents. No parent will have the heart to murder their own child; boom!

New village full of recruits.

And that's the beauty of a true zombie apocalypse - nobody is safe.

At least they still keep the old ways 'alive' in Raiaera :P

They become breeding stock later on to expand the Zombie community later on. After they reach the age where they can no longer breed they are turned. As for the others that survive, it is because they actually fight them off.

The capital has a bottleneck entrance that prevents invasions and will make it impossible for the zombie army to get through until it reaches the millions.

The Labs own a cure.

The labyrinth is guarded by golems.

Vap is protected by Silvidar the Vampire.

Vex, Doson, & Bec are breeding towns. That is why they are still full of humans.

Geminia is his port city for transporting troops and food for his breeding groups, plus it is a good source of income for those people left in grace. Also, he needs humans to control the ships, he pays them and promises not to turn them if they do.

As for why Grond wants people to come? To help his breeding towns get money.

So... you wait until they are old and decrepit, *then* turn them for your army?

I'm all for keeping breeders to provide raw materials, but practicality aside, if you want to take a city with few numbers, you require lateral thinking, cutter.

Yes, but when the only way to get somewhere is through a narrow path, that kind of limits the number of possibilities for attacks.

You can't navigate around a cure for your disease.

These golems will attack on site, and can't be turned.

Silvadar can take out thousands of zombies before falling, plus Vap Civilians can't be turned, since they are already vampires.

The three breeding towns are small so it doesn't really matter.

As for the port, he turns most into zombies, leaving only a two hundred left to run the ports. one hundred for the Smuggler's side, and one hundred for the strict side.

I'm not arguing with you, because it's your island.

Just offering counterpoints to yours;

1) The normal entrance may be a bottleneck. But if the place has walls, they can be climbed.

2) Find the person who knows how to make the cure, and murder them. Not turn them, just tear them into bloody gobbets. Or, alternatively, find the ingredients required to make said cure, and destroy/ take possession of it.

3) Use sacrificial zombies as a distraction, or better yet, stuff them full of black powder and send them in. First golems to approach, light the rots, and BOOM!

Again, obviously it's your material, so feel free to ignore me. I'm just saying there are always ways around any problem- tactical thinking.

Kamikaze zombies.

You have a unique genius, sir.

Aurelianus Drak'shal

To be fair, that tactic isn't limited to zombies, basher.

:P I'll sacrifice anyone if it furthers my ends.

Grond never liked Kamikaze Tactics, he considers it a cowards move. I mean, you strap the bomb to someones chest then send them out to blow them up? Where is the honor of the fight. Sure he started out with gorilla tactics, but that was because he was outnumbered 10:1.

Otto

I don't think it would be a coward's move to use it against golems, as Aur suggested - more a matter of using the right tool for the job. Grond is already remarkably cognisant, unlike your traditional sort of zombie. What's to stop him using those smarts again?

And where's the honour in zombifying some poor kid on their 10th birthday?

Dead & Walking
07-28-13, 08:10 AM
In case you forget, he is regretting that happening in the town of Fom and is making it so that kids under 15 can't be bit.

I didn't forget anything - I was referring to your post here (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?25648-Need-List-of-Known-Creatures-in-Althanas&p=209957&viewfull=1#post209957), which gives the minimum age as 10. 15 is still pretty harsh, but hey. He's a zombie. They're not exactly known for their inhibitions, although Grond seems to be defying the stereotype.

Aurelianus Drak'shal

I admire a zombie with smarts- a canny rot is useful in all sorts of ways.

But adding morals to that is more a hindrance than a help.

What fun is a story without hypocrisy and conflicting morals?
