Actually, I think it's more akin to "broheim" or "homeskillet" than "dude".

I have never heard anyone use the terms "broheim" or "homeskillet". :P but then I live in Alaska, the slang terms to refer to friends/acquaintances/whatever tend to make their way up here very slowly. The most common terms I hear are "dude" and "homie"

It's like how some people say 'mate' when speaking to acquaintances. Or to unfortunate victims, often in a sentence somewhere along the lines of "that's a nice watch you've got there, mate". In Aur's case, it's almost universally the latter.
