View Full Version : Query about solos, starting quests, and GM/Moderation

So -- I'm (obviously) new at this. I believe I read something about althanas using a "fluid time", which presumably means I can participate in multiple threads at the same time. How does it work if I wanted to start my own thread? Do I need to find a GM or a mod, or do I just write a story to myself? Open it up for cooperative storytelling with other players? Any which way I please?

Oh, while i'm asking quesitons, where is the citadel? (not the forum, I can find that, but where is the actual citadel? trying to figure out if/when Tad might actually end up there... have some odd ideas for a "battle" that I might like to try out but only if I can maintain continuity)
thanks!

You are free to take whatever approach to writing a thread that you wish.
You can write solo threads, leave them open for others to join, leave a recruitment thread up so people can apply... it's entirely up to you.
And story-wise, the Citadel is located in Radasanth, the capital city of Corone.

Cool, I'm in corone now so perhaps I'll wander that way after the puppetteers are dealt with :)
thanks!

If you're looking for someone to participate in your thread, it's best to pitch your ideas to us in a recruitment thread (there's a subforum for those), what you're looking for in a writing partner or partners, and then let us know how many other characters you'd like to have join the thread, then collaborate from there.
UNless were all telepaths. Sadly we cant get your ideas.

But, sometimes it's fun just to leave a thread wide open and see what happens.

I might have to try that, Aurelianus, but I've got 2 going now, think I'll limit myself to 2 at a time for now

On the topic of "how do things work around here", is the bazaar the only way to get enchanted type thingies or can one go questing for them? I had in mind a sort of multi part quest, first to gather the key materials, second to further imbue them with power, and finally to locate the craftsman to pull it all together.

You can quest for them. You just have to request them like you would any other spoil.

LOL, err, enlighten me. Requesting spoil?
Spoils are, effectively, rewards for doing a thread. These are usually items which have cropped up during a thread - perhaps you happen to pilfer a nice sword along the way, or it's a quest objective like you described. There are obviously caps as to what sort of items are allowed, depending on level and story quality. If you can make it credible that a certain spoil falls into your hands, you'll probably be awarded it. But you do have to mention that you would like something awarded as spoils, so the judges can decide on it.

LOL. I suck at this. How do y'all get past the "wide open" stage at the start of a solo thread? I sat down last night with a piece of paper and sketched out the various locations and various people Tad would be likely to meet on phase 1 of this quest (obtain the material). Then I decided this was going to be a very boring story, and have been scratching my head ever since. I guess I should just go write my boring story, get feedback, and hope that part 2 gets better.

I sometimes sketch out rough story ideas, but they tend to evolve as you progress. Sometimes it is a good idea to have a very broad and simple goal, and then the other characters will bend the story and add additional parts you would not have thought of.
For example, you start a thread where you are hired by a town to fight off some wolves as a starting point. It is a good simple idea, and many characters can easily join the quest.
You're joined by two other PCs, a magic based one and a standard warrior. As the thread progresses you decide to play up the magic part, the wolves are controlled by an evil god, his power waning as the town turns its faith to other gods. You throw in more wolf-esque images to tie in the god and your quest, with werewolves to challenge your group in combat, playing on the moon and other similar images that can add detail to the story, until you destroy the god's last alter and his essence disappears.
The story is broad, and grows as you align the characters to a story that will challenge them.

I've never been a fan of solos. If you're stuck, open the thread to others and just go with it.
