Salvarian Gallantry, Future lord, currently an adventurer

Goals
Terriance’s goals are to subsist alone for a time, learn the ways of the commoner to better understand their nature. He holds the values of the common man above those of the nobility, which is rare. However, he sees great value in divulging himself with the locals of many cultures and creating strong ties with those that he would one day hope to rule.

His other goals are to better himself, both mentally and physically. He hopes to understand the nature of sciences, learn to a selected skill craft or talent, and grow to understand the use of his arms and armor more.

Of course, other pieces of the puzzle are also part of his personal goals. With his father aging slowly, as all half-elves do, the province of Hajira has quite some time till it will be passed on. Atop the health of Lord Samuel, Terriance is not the elder son, and therefore will not inherit the land once his father passes away. Have those thoughts on his mind spurs him to seek a land of his own, whether it be on Salvarian or not.

Appearance
Standing at an average five foot and eight inches, the young Terriance has the ‘ideal’ body shape. Study and time with his weapons and practicing with his masters at the manor has given him a shapely and hopefully attractive figure. His muscles are soft, but toned, not excessive but easily prominent. They accent his body well, giving a rippling affect beneath the soft skin that covers them. His body is somewhat lithe, of the medium build, and lovingly remains sleek with heavy contours in the correct places. Terriance’s muscles along both arms and legs are sinewy when flexed, an alluringly soft yet delicate shape that catches the eye. His stomach and chest are well toned with hours of work, either straight exercising or by training with his weapons. Rather broad shoulders are heavily toned, but do not absorb his neck like the heavily built men of the Salvic tundra. He is not necessarily bulky, and when not flexing the muscles are often soft and appear much wider.

His hair is a soft auburn color when the summer’s sun is allowed to touch if often. When winter’s hand falls, however, and the sun’s rays are diluted by the clouds the boy’s hair becomes a darker chestnut coloration. At either time his hair is always just above his shoulders, tucked behind his ears, with bangs falling just below his eyes. His eyes also seem to shift color depending on the setting. Times when the young Terriance would wear dark clothes or the sun would be absent his eyes would mimic the color, drowning into a rich hazel color. When the boy wore bright colors or the sun was out his eyes would shift to a placid honey color, accented by small tendrils of yellow stretching away from his pupil. Whatever the color his eye sockets are slightly sharp tilted gently upwards as the most dominant sign of his heritage. Bold cheekbone lines accompany his bright eyes, forming a picturesque frame about his face. His brow is soft; his eyebrows trimmed and slim, not nearly as heavy as the native Salvic people. His ears are pointed at their very tips, one of the few signs of his elven heritage, but neither long nor sharp at any point. Finally a pair of delicately slim lips, a deep cherry red, rest between a sharp short nose and a noble chin.

Terriance’s skin is a commonly light-tan tone. His heritage dictates that it should be otherwise, but the mostly human genes have somewhat overridden the pale ice-elf genes over time. Adding to the existence of the small tan is the young noble’s inability to remain within doors for too long, instead suffering the sun’s gentle gaze and the peace of outdoors. Across his shoulders are darker pigmentations of small freckles, their proximity somewhat loose and yet they seem to condense slightly at his neck.

His stride is pronounced and obvious. Terriance walks with his shoulders back, his head erect, and his eyes always working. If people encounter him a smile is apt to find its way across his face, no matter who the person is. A seasoned fighter could easily recognize the way his feet and legs shift, pronouncing his ability with the blade. To others it appears that he is moving through a fight. His leather boots tap very gently on the ground, making hardly a noise, and he moves from heel to toe with each step. Though he has the look of always being on guard, it is not uncommon for him to be surprised at any turn and though he can often think of a way to avoid contact it is rare that his skill level allows him to execute such maneuvers fast enough.

The noble’s voice is strong, often times startling. Despite his size he can call commands like an experienced general and is unafraid of assume charge of a situation. His tone is not often demeaning, but is almost always demanding. He expects a lot from others, and his voice expresses that most closely. When he speaks he looks into other’s eyes, when he talks he expects others to be silent, and when others talk he is silent. The actual sound is rich and deep enough to be easily assumed masculine, but calm enough to reflect his personality and character. His depth of personality is also expressed through the emotional change in tone that he often assumes. The general volume of his tone and accent of his words can change depending on what mood he is in at the time.

Personality
The loose life of a noble allows for a jovial and oft-times easy life. In the Salvar tundra life is but little different, with the exceptional minor blizzard. During his youth Terriance would often find himself about, lost in the frozen forests, toying with the quiet nature during the apex of winter. He has a natural affinity for sciences, mostly including the study of nature and the stars, but also loves to learn anything that he does not already know.

His general nature is jovial and easy going. It takes much to stress the young noble, most of which would revolve around personal attacks instead of situational problems. He loves children, loves to play with them, and finds the innocence of the child the most cherished aspect of humanity. His playful nature often leads him to toying with the locals, getting to know the children before moving to the adults. At times his personality leads to problems, with the adults wishing to be noticed more so than their children. However, the young Terriance has always valued the faithful children over the greedy adult. He also holds the view of children being the future of society above all else, knowing that to be remembered by a child of twelve will be more useful in ten years than appeasing the seventy year old grandmother. That is not to say, though, that he does not pay proper respects to the elderly or the already adult.

Terriance has a rather pragmatic view of the world. His teaching did not include stories of mystery, of fantasy, or of fantastic ideas of magic. Though he knows the stories, and has looked over the childish books in his mid-teens, he still holds a definite outlook on the present and future. He looks ahead at all times, balancing the pros with the cons when deciding on a specific event.

His realistic outlook of the world leads him to a rather lackluster view on faith. He understands the concerns of others to spend their time and energy on worshiping that which cannot be seen, but he himself does not. The importance of belief is not overlook in the least, but the idealistic prospect of a greater being watching and helping the world is not one that Terriance believes. The young noble does not believe another is above his own mind power, and holds the value of the human mind and the power that a single person can exert with much higher interest than a supernatural faith. However, Terriance is very religious, which does not necessarily make him believe in a ‘true god’ but does give him a generally good appearance with locals. He follows the Church of the Sway and their lawful ways, knowing that dedication of some form is customary for a noble. He, like the past generation of Calaelen, does not believe in the pagan gods of Althanas, The Thayne. Though, they also do not fault those that believe in the Thayne, allowing religious freedom before all.

Terriance, as stated vaguely earlier, has more of an attraction towards other men than he does women. This trait is often covered up, or hidden. People outside of immediate family neither suspect nor know of the young man’s personal feelings towards relationships. As a noble it is expected of him to find a bride and wed to form another branch in the line of Calaelen. However, being the middle child (technically third of four) has left him will little regard or hope for inheriting the throne of Hajira. Thus, when in private, he is apt to tastefully seek out a male companion. When in public he is expected, and does as he is expected, to openly engage with the women of nobility and at least pretend to express an interest in them.

At the heart of the boy’s interests are his musical engagements. Terriance is a practiced viol player, learning the instrument as part of his schooling. The small, delicate instrument is the miniature version of a violin. The young man’s teachings were cut off around the age of 15, when his father thought that he was playing the instrument too often and not learning the art of war and personal defense instead. Despite his father’s dislike of the instrument, however, the boy continued to learn it with the help of two personal tutors. The first was caught and exiled; the second was argued over and finally agreed upon to teach the boy (though narrowly).

History ((short, but relative for history only))

Approx. 800 Years Prior: The Parting

Akashima.

The land suggested a certain property, a specific element that very few could overlook. The inland portions of Corone were booming, experiencing an economic change and a cultural revolution. It had been a long time since the demon’s had been routed from the island and driven to the sea. Enough time had passed to create books of record about it even. The little portion of Akashima was living under a banner of peace and prosperity, sending their yearly tribute to the government of Corone and being allowed to continue in their peaceful existence.

During these times the people of the small villages were as joyous as a group of subsisting commoners could be. They worked the lands, farmed the fields during the summer and fished year round. The people lived under the shadow of the Crystal Tower, awed by its magnificence and yet set back by its mysteries. Scholars of Akashima were yet studying the amazing structure.

It was during these times that the noble began to look outward. No longer was the inner growth of the small country supporting them enough, profits were to be had in a developing world. One of the many groups to leave, a direct line to the royal family of Akashima, was the little House of Calaelen.

The original Calaelen looked to the mainland, looking for a place to set up.

He reached the mainland and continued through the dingy Alerar and the egotistical Raiaera into the southern reaches of Salvar. The people of the frosted tundra were an interesting bunch and the land free as long as the lord submitted to the rule of the crown. House Calaelen quickly took advantage and began to look for a suitable patch of land…

Approx. 780 Years Prior: Immigrants from the South

The Akashima noble quickly began to build his lands. With a ships worth of peasants that had followed him the homes were raised, the workshops created, and the fields separated, the people were free to begin branching out. The warriors began to explore and in turn ran into the natives of the Salvar Tundra, ice elves.

The two at first were civil, despite the humans of Akashima finding the elven counterparts somewhat savage. Over time, what could have only been a few decades, the two groups came into conflict. The war became a series of skirmishes that nearly destroyed the humans from Corone without their crops.

Nearly ten years of war led to the intervention of the capital, which sent a number of troops to deal with the situation. The way they dealt with the situation was brutal, and intervention was again necessary. Instead of the crown intervening, the people from Akashima did instead and stopped the fighting before the genocide of the ice elves could be killed completely.

Approx. 745 Years Prior: Wed

The House of Calaelen was wed to the leader of the matriarchal society of elves, thus combining the once warring parties. It was the beginning of the new civilization, and as an aspect of the marriage the two races were mixed. From that point on the two races were mixed and the people were no longer known as human or elven. Over time even the heritage of either side became muddled so that portions of the people could not be traced…

Clothing
Terriance is not as vain as his brothers, but is not going to be caught wearing something ridiculous. He remains noble even in his clothing choice, which is a direct product of his father’s money.

He wears a thin, cotton shirt that is so expertly woven it is as soft as silk. The shirt is white and long sleeved, buttons up at the center with small ivory buttons, and flairs as the cuffs. Atop that is a thicker blouse of cotton. The blouse is a forest green in color and trimmed in a black lining, the colors of the House of Calaelen. The blouse’s collar is thick and always folded downward. The cuffs are also always folded, doubling back away from the wrist halfway up the forearm. Two thin bands of black ring the center of the cuffs, which are also lined with the same black color. The blouse is cut sharply downward, designed for riding. The two points at the front meet just below the young noble’s crotch. No buttons or ways of closing the blouse are present, except by use of an ascot at the top. Under the collar is a small ascot, bloused and flared.

His pants are tight, fitted for riding, and slightly reinforced along the inside of the knee and thigh areas. They are a sleek black, thin and soft, made of slightly heavier cotton but threaded to allow air to pass through them. The pants are tight around the waist area, and loosen very little till they pass the kneecap. After the knee cap the pants are a common width, made to be tucked into a pair of riding boots. To finish off the outfit, or course, is a pair of thin leather riding boots. These boots have a two inch heel, slightly worn by an eight of an inch at best. They rise to the bottom of the young man’s knees, though do not interfere with movement whether riding or walking.

Personal Weaponry

Rapier
On the hilt of the blade is a small family crest, other than that the blade is rather plain. The steel blade is full tang, and the handle is bound with thick tanned leather. In all the weapon weighs very little. It is not meant for powerful strokes or blocking larger weapons, but for quick thrusts and parrying instead. The rapier is always within its leather sheath at his right side.

Personal Armory

((None currently))

Personal Equipment

“Maddison”
Maddison is a large, Salvarian male horse. He is a deep brown color. The horse is a full 15 hands tall (60 inches), 1200 pounds, and rippling with muscle. Though Terriance has a small fear of horses he has been friends with the large horse for all 3 of the years it has been alive.
((Cannot be used in normal battles))

Viol
Terriance’s viol is packed in a thick, oak case and strapped to the side of his horse. In the case the delicate instrument is normally safe, and with it the unstrung bow is also kept. The young noble takes it out when he feels safe enough to do so, taverns and inns mostly, to play it. Otherwise, the viol is in its case. Terriance takes special precautions to oil the instrument daily and keep it loose so the Salvar made strings do not break.

Skills

Horsemanship
The art of riding has been passed from the time of old, before the first of House Calaelen of Akashima ventured away from the island of Corone. It has always been a sign of nobility. At times the ability to ride a horse is pivotal, for example: when hunting through a dense forest with a party, when commanding a unit of knights on the battlefield, or acting as a general in order to see over the troops. At other times it is taken as a pastime, mostly for the females of the nobility. Terriance, however, also accepted the riding of a horse as a recreational pastime instead of learning to wield the bow or lance from atop the beasts. He has a slight fear of the battle-hardened horses, or those meant for battle, and prefer to stick to the docile geldings.

Swordsmanship
Like all good males of noble birth the young Terriance was schooled in the use of the sword. He quickly became accustomed to the light, quick rapier over the rather warrior-esque longsword. He is far from an expert, however, and rarely practiced his skill while at home. Comparatively he is below average to others about his age and human, compared to those that have also had formal training at least.

Archery
Competitions were oft held by Lord Calaelen as events during times of mirth and cheer. In order to compete, the young Terriance also began to use the bow, but lost interest in it before his eighteenth year. The basics of the use of a bow are retained, but little skill could be used if someone gave the boy a bow and arrow to knock. He is easily only an adept with the bow.

Spearsmanship
The use of a spear is not necessarily a noble trait, but it is one that is passed down from the tundra elves of Salvar. The main skill of the elven people was with the use of the spear, which offered the race many victories in a number of skirmishes and disputes. His skill with the spear almost perfectly reflects his skill with the sword. His training went only as far, however, that he learned to hold the object without puncturing his own foot. He is below average.

The Viol
Terriance, as stated earlier, has an amazing interest in the unique instrument. The viol also goes by the name of “leg violin” and is a much more intricate instrument. The violin is what peasants and commoners play in the streets. It can be played to a quick tune and either accompanied by the song or dance. A viol, on the other hand, is a gallant instrument often associated with the slower songs and more profound verse. The young noble is far from able to give verse with his little toy, but is rather experienced in its use.

Close Combat
Terriance is able to strike well in close combat, having limited training in a rather peculiar and little known technique. His fighting style mostly consists of striking with the elbows and knees to pivotal spots around the body. The points that he aims for are always points of pressure, tensed muscles, and joints. Currently a strike does nothing more than release the energy of the swing into the point struck, no different than a normal punch or kick. His skill with this type of fighting is average at best.

Welcome! This profile looks real good and I'm impressed with how much of the material it seems you've read. However, there is one thing I'd like to bring to your attention.

We have a subregion known as Akashima that is part of Corone. Having this as your surname is alright, but I don't know if you'd want a surname that is the same as a place. If you'd like to keep it, be my guest, but I'll give you the opportunity to change it.

Post here when you have a decision. Either way you get approved with a 100 EXP bonus!

The actual house name is Calaelen, which would searve as a sur-name. Van Akashima is "of Akashima", where the original ancestors of Terriance were from. Van, as I found, is a more Northern European (danish to be exact) form of "de" or "Von"... trying to keep it somewhat like Northern Salvar.

So... in formal settings Van Akashima would be used just like Count "de Monte Christo". Is that ok? Or would I still need to change it?

Thats fine. It was your choice either way, I just wanted you to be informed.

Also, I'm going to request that at no point do you sell your horse or viol. These are the conditions under which you can have them as starting equippment.

Approved with a 100 EXP Bonus.
