Depends on the candlestick. Some good silverware would work a treat, but if it were one of the flimsy wooden ones, I'd use the table instead.

Check the strategy guide or an online FAQ for the proper way to complete that sidequest that resulted in their deaths then load up a previous save.

Well. I forgot January. And February. So.
Jan. - You are handed three boxes, each with a different power and life.
1. A humble peasant, with the power to do anything he is asked of. But he is trapped on a lonely farm.
2. A wealthy king, with the power to read minds, yet cursed with eternal sadness
3. The noble man, with the power to make anything live, and destroy anything. Even though he must wander for all eternity.
Feb - You have a single sheet to write on, after you fill it, you will die. What do you write?

Jan- Number three
Feb- I'd write the dates that meant the most to me as I went through life. When I filled the page that would mean I had lived though an incredible amount of amazing days. It would also leave behind those memories for my kids, and let them know that they filled my life with happiness.
