...And somehow, I'm completely okay with that decision.

Discuss.

I don't think it matters that much, the recent Batman films have been driven by the villain more than Batman. Don't get me wrong, I think Christian Bale is a good actor, but he doesn't have the same depth that Heath Ledger and Cillian Murphy brought to the roles (Tom Hardy as Bane was more constructed around the actor IMO than Scarecrow and Joker).

As for Ben Affleck, well Argo was one of the best movies of 2012 and I was surprised by Affleck's skill, both as an actor and director (I guess he actually might have contributed to Good Will Hunting O.o ).

What I am most worried about is how they will reconcile the end of Bale's Batman with this new incarnation. They might try and differentiate the stories by changing the atmosphere, and we might end up with a less serious Batman. *shrug*

Hysteria pretty much says what I've been telling people. I'll always picture Affleck as the dorky friend from Good Will Hunting first, but he's done good (especially recently) and might not be terrible. Just gotta take those superhero movies as completely different interpretations of these characters, drop all expectations, and see what happens. I remember when they cast Ledger as the Joker and everyone was like "wtf?!".

Personally, I see Affleck as being far to open of an actor to play Batman. Bruce Wayne is a very closed person, showing a false self to the world while his true self stalks the rooftops in bat-inspired latex suits.

The more important question, I think, is "Why another Batman movie?" Does DC have nothing better to offer than a continuous stream of Batman with an occasional Superman tossed in haphazardly? Marvel is taking us through a universe full of characters, revisiting them, throwing them together, bringing in new heroes, foreshadowing future villains, and still promising more. DC gave us Green Lantern, and promptly dropped the lead actor for Marvel to pick up more appropriately as Deadpool.

Thoughts?

It's the corporate machine, Zook. Batman/Superman exist to make money (especially since they'll be in the same flick this time whoaoaaoa!) and they're trying to establish their own unique formula to make more.

Not that I wouldn't mind seeing everything done differently (goodness knows the formula Marvel nailed down is pure gold), as well, but I just sort of take it for what it is. I reiterate my "no expectations" comment.

I realize the box office disagrees with me, but I'm pretty wiped on comic book movies. A part of me wants Ben Affleck to bust so that Hollywood moves on.

Affleck was awesome in Dogma.

For that reason, and that reason alone, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

EDIT: And Zook, as far as I'm concerned, that wasn't Deadpool in 'Origins'. They took everything that made the character good, then fucked it away in the bin, and instead let Ryan "I'm in every horrible movie imaginable" Reynolds destroy the character.

Blade Trinity: Horrible
Green Lantern: Horrible
Wolverine: Origins: The rest of it was passable, but again, he CANNOT be Deadpool.

They removed the cancer, they got rid of the mouth of a character known as THE MERC WITH THE MOUTH!! aaaaand, despite the fact you seem him bend his arms two seconds before it happens, he manages to slide two full length katana blades out of his forearms. What, did they have goddamn hinges!?

Its probably the success of the Avengers that is causing DC to try and get a Justice League movie. However, you had a very isolated Batman. So then you make a crossover, join it with another League member and BAM! Time for superhero mayhem!

The only comic book movie I'm genuinely looking forward to right now is X-men: Days of Future Past, but I'm trying very hard not to get my hopes up. ; (

I think the reason that DC only put out Batman and Superman movies is because those are the only two heroes that the general movie-going public really know of or care about. Marvel has a far more enticing, accessible, and well-known stable of heroes; whereas DC has Bats, Supes, and maybe Aquaman (because lulztalkstofishlulz) of the core JLA that Jon Q. Public can name off the top of his head. Green Lantern barely made back its budget; people just aren't that familiar with the property. And because it is a business, it makes more financial sense for DC to keep pumping out Batman and Superman movies ad nauseum.

As for Batfleck, haters gonna' hate. I remember people saying Michael Keaton couldn't do Batman, and look how that turned out. Same with Ledger and The Joker. Give him time; Affleck is a pretty good actor, but ultimately it will have to be up to Zack Snyder and the script as to whether or not Batfleck will work.

Now Affleck is not working with that twat who is Silent Bob, he's come into his own.

I, for one, welcome our new suave overlords.

*the american dictionary doesn't recognise twat. Yet another reason to hate American English

You dislike Kevin Smith!?

Watch Red State, then come back and talk to me.

I love Kevin Smith.

I don't like the type casting Affleck got in everyone of his films though.

Except for the gay kiss in Chasing Amy.

Caus, you know, it was hawt.

I will agree to that. :P

Michael Keaton was awful, and here is why:

I can't take seriously a hero whose lips are pursed 24/7. I dub them the Keaton Batlips.

That is truly horrible to look at... yet I can't look away...

Zook, this will probably be a Worlds Finest movie, meaning DC is finally laying the groundwork for JLA.

I disagree with the Bats-Supes-Aqua forumal simply because thanks to 90s nostalgia and Daddy Daycare, people know enough about The Flash to warrant his own movie.

Also, Blade Trinity was amazing, and Reynolds made a great Hannibal King. STFU Aurie : P

Reynolds will make an awesome deadpool, if they ever decide to make the movie, and make it how they should; rated R.

And Dirks, nobody actually -cares- about your opinion : P

Sei, you have lost all respect from me.

Reynolds is *not* the man to play Deadpool.

Fine, some people may like Blade Trinity, but I for one found it to be yet another unnecessary sequel to try and milk a franchise that had already yielded plenty of cash with the previous installments.

This happened because Christian Bale refuses to do Batman without Christopher Nolan, and Christopher Nolan refuses to do more Batman movies. Which is fine, because he wrote himself into a corner when discussing a possible Justice League movie. Nobody wants a broken Batman. Old Batman is okay, but broken Batman? No.

Anyway, I loved Man of Steel so I'm willing to give Zack Snyder a chance on this, and it's supposed to be Superman vs Batman and that's wonderful.

I find it strange that Green Lantern got a movie but Flash didn't (am I crazy? I feel like more people know The Flash than Green Lantern), and I find it...uncomfortable that WB can't seem to figure out how to do a Wonder Woman movie. Man of Steel creates a FANTASTIC opening for a Wonder Woman movie that makes sense, I can't see why they wouldn't go for that except for the incredibly pathetic fumbling they did on like five potential Wonder Woman TV shows. It's not hard, WB. Just hire Gail Simone.

Wonder Woman movie by Gail Simone

I think I just jizzed a little

Explain to me how Reynolds isn't damn near perfect.

Because chances are, if not him, they'd hire a comedian who would suck in both the role and the acting....like Dane Cook.

I've decided I really don't care who plays Batman as long as he gets a sailor henshin sequence
