This has to be said, after yet again playing the game.
There is not a *single* dragon in Skyrim.
A Dragon has two arms, two legs, and two wings; this makes for a total of six limbs, not including the tail.
The ones in Skyrim had two legs, and two wings. This makes them wyverns.
That is all.

By a Monster Hunter and D&D definition, you are correct.
Also, Skyrim dragons could just as accurately be referred to as "drakes."

No, going by actual mythology. They were a lesser cousin of dragons, but they were essentially giant, reptilian birds, in regards to their body - two wings, two legs.
And, if I recall correctly (and I may not; it's been a while) but drakes were essentially dragons without the wings.

Whatever they were, they all fell victim to my legendary Daedric war axes. Who needs fucking magic when I cut them in twine.

That was a good day.

Technically a dragon is a cross between a hydra and python, going by Greek myth. So nyuh!

Ah, but there are all manner of dragon sub-species throughout the known world.
I was going with the most well known, European Dragon.
I mean, there are Cornwall, Chinese, Aztec, Japanese, Greek... the list goes on and on.
Check out the Deadly Dragons mod for Skyrim. After a little bit, they get way too easy to kill.
Unless you have this. Fun times.

To be honest, they actually do have four legs and two wings, but their forelegs are like the wings of bats, with the wing built in. If we compare this to Rathian and Rathalos of Monster Hunter, those have the same set-up but don't walk on their forelimbs, making them more classic wyverns. Although, if we drag Monster Hunter into this, Barioth, Gigginox, Tigrex and Nargacouga ruin my argument, as they do use their forelimbs (with wings stretched between arm and body) for ambulation.

Barioth was awesome. Gigginox can go fuck itself.
Anyway, while we're somewhat close to the subject: the dragons in Skyrim were a letdown. You might have been drawn to the game thinking "Oh shit! Dragons in an Elder Scrolls game!" but you quickly become too much for the plain dragons to handle and the variants never make up the difference. I liked a lot of what Bethesda did in that game, but the dragon fights weren't on the 'awesome' list.
EDIT: Though I haven't tried Otto's mod. If I get back into the game, I'll have to give that a shot.

Honestly, the undead mask dudes, the Dragon Priests, were more of a challenge. Smaller targets, loaded up with magic, and fucking quick.

Definitely agreed. My favorite fights in the game. I kept using the shock mask from one of the dragon priests in the expansion (name escapes me) not just because it was useful, but because that fight was fucking epic.

I just used the Daedra weapon, the Ebony Blade, shouted them to the ground (Fus Roh Da), then hacked them to absolute shit.
Works a treat.

I dunno. I'll admit, I got a chill down my spine when I arrived at the tower outside of Whiterun. The Dragonborn theme started up and the first dragon descended on me. I was like "Holy shit, I actually have to fight that thing now?" My Nord ice magic barely left a dent (it was an ice dragon). I couldn't hit the damn thing with an arrow as it took to the sky. When I did, it was just a little bit of damage from an iron arrow. Eventually, all my NPCs died or were knocked out. With no Dragonrend, I would hide behind a rock and wait until the fucking thing landed then run up there and slice it's legs. Fortunately, its ice breath didn't hurt me too much, so all I had to avoid was its mouth and tail. Battle took 15 minutes with the Dragonborn theme repeating.
It was pretty fucking epic.
I'll admit now that my character is juiced dragon battles are boring, but in all honesty, all battles are boring. Even Dragon Priests die in four or five double swipes on all of my characters.

Agreed!
The first battle was absolutely nerve-wracking and awesome.
But fast-forward to your 294th dragon kill and that shit's just dull.

They really could have made the fights more interesting by giving them regular magic in addition to the Shouts.
As for the Dragon Priests, though, I pretty regularly ended up just in a battle of "which runs out first, my magicka or his health?"

I think what ruined the game for me was spending hours smithing iron daggers to make epic weapons. Then I would enchant boost them to ungodly levels. Maybe if I played as intended, the later battles would have been more entertaining. I literally killed Alduin from a hill with arrows while the "legendary heroes" distracted him. It required no talent and I took no damage.
Agreed!

Agree with that. Pretty sure the first dragon killed me a time or two before I learned that being in front of the business end with a shitty character and shitty armor is a very bad idea.

And that. Especially since I was playing a pure magic character. My first encounter with a dragon priest (Vokun, if I recall correctly) basically consisted of Lydia getting repeatedly blasted by the thing while my underleveled ass hid behind a pillar and took potshots with shock spells. It was a little pathetic, but hey; Lydia is (somehow) still alive and Vokun's face is now in a chest in my manor. That's what counts.

I was a dual axe time-slowing berserker. By the end of the main campaign, it was like I was playing Cooking Mama. The Dragonborn DLC does look interesting, but I haven't gone back for it yet.
It certainly was awesome in the beginning, though.
I seriously need to get this game, it sounds really awesome

At the moment, Omega, Alpha and Ceta are my main three. One is a berserker, with ice breath using dual daedric war hammers (Modded) Thats Ceta. Alpha is a werewolf, and a rogue, 14 enchanted daedric swords. Omega, is my best, a time slowing magic casting, skin roasting, head roller of awesome. And he's level 68. TWO MORE TILL I RESTART!
As for the boring part, ATM, im going for Hardcore Mode-esque. Once i get him to 70, im heading to level 1 again, donning my flames, and going for not dying the entire game. To level 70. If i die, i delete all of his saves.

I play on the console, but I have the PC version (gifted by a friend through Steam). But my computer can't handle it. One day I'll have a computer hardcore enough to run it wide open.

The Deadly Dragon mod allows you to adjust their armour, health, magic, magic resistance, magic damage and melee damage. It also gives them one or two extra abilities. Honestly, if you get it right, it will make all those hyperpowered weapons, armour (and even potions) an actual necessity.
PC ftw.

I admit I play the game a bit too much. I'm level 89 almost 90 and have a legendary dragon bone bow with 473 dragon bone arrows, and I have full dragonscale armor. I kill legendary dragons with one hit and killed Alduin when I faced him with 3. I can attack a child in a city and have everyone shooting arrows at me t the same time for 5 minutes before I use a full health potion and I am the leader of every group (ie. dark brotherhood, thrives guild) and my companion has full legendary daedric armor, a daedric sword and shield. My manor is completely finished and I have a wife and two kids. The dragon priests? I kill them with 2-5 hits. Games got kind of boring so I started over again with a kajitt. Now level 46 with him and can down a dragon with 2 punches. Yea, I have no life.

I have six NPCs that follow me around, and max enchanted and crafted dragon bone and deadric items.... yeah... I go giant hunting...
Strange to think when I encountered my first dragon in the wilderness I had to ride my horse off the side of the mountain (horse didn't survive, poor bastard) and keep running till I reached town. Using the town guards as a distraction I brought down the beast with my trusty bow and iron arrows.
Before I got my NPCs I'd just run as it with my sword until it was dead. No way it'd be able to scratch me. *shrug*
I'll have to check out the steam workshop for mods (PC FTW).
