Are they basing it off the actual graphic novels, or are they taking it from the Keanu Reeves rape?

Graphic novels/comics, the rights were sold to NBC (which could potentially mean an Arrow crossover). No mention at all of the Keanu Reeves movie, and David S. Goyer is involved.

I'm cautiously optimistic about it.

Fan made short film based on one of my favorite issues. Despite all the changes in the scenario from the actual comic you can understand why, and its very well done. But yeah, expecting for good things from the show.
