Synopsis:
The Crimson Hands was founded by rogue assassin and general madman, Lye Ulroke. Originally started as a gathering of skilled assassins, killers, thugs, mercenaries, and bandits, The Hands became a unified body with the sole purpose to collect coin in exchange for dirty work. Whispers of their existence echo in the back alleys of all the major Althanian cities. Those who call upon their services are forever marked by The Hands, watched for the rest of their waking days. Should a former employer put The Hands at risk in any way, their lives have but hours remaining.
Purpose:
We are the eyes that are always watching, the waiting reaper, and the executioner's axe. The Hands' primary goals are to establish a network of secrets and power in all corners of the land. Members must not only be able to take a life, but be able to collect information on targets of great importance. Kings, Queens, Dukes, and figureheads of power all have secrets capable of crippling their positions. There is even information within The Order that remains to be uncovered. Our group has taken out entire nations, killed heroes, and changed governments. Now, we have become much more dormant. We talk mercenary work for coin while the intricacies of larger designs tick mechanically beneath the surface.
When we are not occupied with our cloak and dagger work, a generous donation of coin is more than enough to earn a favor or two...
History:
In the wide expanses of the Skavian Wilderness on the continent of Salvar wandered a single man hell-bent on revenge through the bloodiest path possible. His solo endeavors stole the lives of many who dared risk the Skavian Wilds. With just the sole purpose of seeking out and killing one man, he used whoever and whatever he could to practice the art of murder. Many names circulated around in rumors, some of which being “The Viper of Salver”, “The Bone Eater”, and “The Crimson Assassin”. Through years of the same gory routine, he understood that no matter how high the headcount climbed, he was no closer to finding his target. He needed a way of combing the lands and gather information. Impartial to civilization, he sought alternative methods to spread his grasp.
In an effort to further his own cause, he collected people of similar ilk that admired his work or sought a higher purpose for their deadly addiction of bloodshed. These people worked in tandem to claim the wilds as their own, seating their operations in a mountainous alcove of the Terrillian Ridge, located where the crest of the Scavian Deepwoods meet the Great White Expanse. There they built a great hall from the resources of the land, accessible by only those who knew the path. With a headquarters for all the vagabonds to call home, they began a grand operation to make their existence known. Under the guidance of the master assassin, they snuck their way into the aqueducts of Archen. They listened to the whispers of the oppressed and spoke to them through messages given on the wings of ravens. Those that answered back with names saw to it that their oppressors met an untimely demise.
News of these unfortunate events spread quickly throughout the streets. In the corrupt governments of Salvar, saviors from the shadows were welcomed by the people, and hated by the law. Word of mouth spread like fire in the wind. Within the year, all major cities including Knife’s Edge were keen to the call of the ravens. The fearful within the royal guard made it a priority to kill the birds on sight. This didn’t stop The Hands from listening, not only to the whispers of the people, but to their requests to see lives snuffed out.
Since then, their reach has expanded throughout the lands. The island nation of Eiskalt remains in ruins due to efforts of The Crimson Hands. The great Ixian Knights also remain crippled by corruption and loss. Operations stemming from secrets gathered by The House of Sin continue. Yet during these events, their leader was coined “The Phantom Tyrant” for his ruthless approach and disregard for life. A mutiny overthrew him and placed the figures of Madison Freebird and Aurelianus Drak’Shal in charge. These two have altered the hell-bent path of The Crimson Hands and silenced their robust actions. They now operate in silence, taking mercenary work and maintaining the House of Sin. Yet somehow, more continue to flock to their cause. Something dark ticks away beneath the surface, waiting.
The Crimson Hands have begun to leave its scars upon Althanas and more is yet to come.

Structure:
The Crimson Hands:
The Crimson Hands can be found at the top of the pile of corpses. Currently, this consists of Madison Freebird and Aurelianus Drak’Shal. These main hands are the masters of their trade and provide direction for the other hands. They are responsible for keeping watch, listening to the reports of the people, and passing final judgment. Strong leaders when together, they are forces to be reckoned with as individuals. If your contract is carried out by one of these members, the target is sure to disappear.
The Hands of Shadows:
Made of primarily assassins, archers, and marksman, these are the daggers in the night and the masters of the unseen. Members of The Shadow are given jobs requiring tact and silence. Their skills are used to claim figures of power, and they are particularly skilled at their trade. They are meant for specific targets and quick kills. They are often the most feared, for one cannot defend against what they do not know.
The Hands of Blades:
Consisting of skilled warriors and mercenaries, these men are the muscle of The Crimson Hands. If a job needs done at all costs, they are sent to complete it. With brutal savagery or absolute precision, they can handle groups of foes. They are often used as support to the other members and have been used as deadly distractions for more precise jobs. If The Hands were to have a public face, these men would represent it. Tact is not required.
The Hands of Secrets:
The Word is the backbone of The Crimson Hands. They are charged with espionage, deception, and treachery. Their primary roles are to gather dirty little secrets on even the purest of heart. They are the unseen fingers in all reaches of Althanas. Their job is to hear the faintest whisper and contribute to The Hands’s vault of secrets and information. They also share the responsibility of brokering collective information, capable of bringing in coin without the need for blood. Although not typically sent to snuff out lives, they have a knack for convincing others to do their dirty work. Many of which operate under a tiefling’s watchful eye and can be found frequenting The House of Sin.
The Hands of Knowledge:
The Crimson Hands charge these members with matters of science, magic, and complexity. The Mind is an elite band of mages, mage hunters, and scholars. Their talents offer The Crimson Hands all manners of destruction and chaos. Trusted with leveling cities, developing contraptions, and enchanting, these masters of mind are capable of anything. They are known as consults to the Crimson Hands. Burn it, trap it, blow it up, or watch it melt. These hands are the creativity of The Crimson Hands.
The Hands of The Company:
These members may not bring the same level of death, destruction, or corruption as their counterparts, but are equally important. These members provide our ranks with the tools of the trade. They craft our blades, arrows, and poisons. They are charged with providing the finest armor, mage robes, and trinkets. These members not only provide, but are able to use our vast knowledge and brute force to help them secure some of the finest ingredients Althanas can offer. If you've heard of the Black Market, these members are indeed among their merchants.
Stipulations:
The Hands are charged with many great secrets. They are never to reveal the exact location of their headquarters. Their involvement with The Hands must be kept as quiet as possible. Those that expose their identity to others must take extra caution not to become a liability. Once you join The Hands, you are branded for life. Those that leave or put The Hands at risk will be hunted. Registration in other groups is allowed and is encouraged. Any and all alignments are allowed. Your primary loyalties are left for you to decide, however, we are a people not to cross.
Initiation:
Manners of initiation vary. Initiates are typically given an opportunity to prove themselves through a contract delivered by ravens. Fulfill this contract and you will be welcomed through a pact of blood.

This PG is similar to the mafia with the respect of "Blood in, blood out". When you agree to join The Crimson Hands, you are privileged with our knowledge, resources, and spoils. All of these came to The Crimson Hands at great cost, and we would like you to respect that. Characters that betray The Hands will be hunted. This will be done through OC communication if writers are aware of their actions and know to expect it. Otherwise, your character is subject to be hunted through any open quest or event they join. I Leadership is very understanding and open to any and all communication. Just remember that this group expects you to uphold some form of contribution and when major events are posted, we appreciate your involvement. We expect this group to offer you a challenge, help create a standard of discipline, and increase your enjoyment of everything Althanas has to offer. Let us work together and make a mark on Althanas history.

Character Hometown - unnamed, secret angelic community located somewhere in Radasanthia. Humans are unable to detect it.
Character Alignment - Not really sure what kind of alignment to give her. Poison will kill or steal nearly indiscriminately, but does have a few things she won't do. She won't kill a child, neither will she orphan a child. This holds no matter how much is at stake. She just flat won't do it. Otherwise though, she'll kill the dude she slept with last night if that's who her target is. Her motive is money. I don't think I'd call her evil, but neither is she exactly good. Perhaps Chaotic Neutral is the best fit.
Preferred Position - Hands of the Shadow
Reason to Join - OOCly, I've been looking to get Poison involved in PGs for years. Until just recently, just about every thing I joined went belly up within a month. This looks quite a bit more thought out and stable. ICly, Poison makes her money by getting jobs. Being in a group like this gives her connections to get better jobs.
I think The Shadow is the best spot for her too. I like the character idea, and I was worried I wouldn't have enough players eligible for The Shadow. Did you want to do a solo, moderated, battle, or group initiation thread? If you want to discuss it, we can PM or talk in chat. I figure an assassination task would easily fit. I can draft up a scenario for you as well unless you have an idea already and can work an The Order into it.

Why do you want your character to join The Order?
I saw that this PG also helps with intel, information from the shadows. Leoric's current Goal will require alot of information and that would pique his interest in the group to begin with. He does whatever he feel's further him. (AKA money or power) he wont hesitate to beat a man or woman to death if that is his target, however he does have a soft spot for attractive women, and would probably try to sleep with them before he takes them out. he is skilled in both swordsmanship and hand to hand combat, and has a unique skill if he ever has to use it.

Reason to Join - I want to get involved with PGs again, and the Crimson Hand aligns well with my desire to get Dirks back to his roots. He's also the most renowned criminal on the site, if that sways your opinion any.

Character Hometown: A small hamlet located approximately 20 Kilometers north by northwest of Skavia, Salvar. I have yet to name this town. It is only a matter of time. He is not currently there, having recently found the Orders of the Crimson Hands.
Character Alignment: Chaotic Good
Preferred Position: Hands of the Blade (primary) or Hands of the Shadow (secondary)
Reason to Join: As a writer I prefer writing from the perspective of a soldier, having served as one for many years in real life. As a player, I intend to have fun with this character. By assigning a Chaotic Good alignment and sociopathic tendencies, I intend to take the gloves off and get messy.
Gunther, it seems your profile will be approved shortly with minimal moderation. I will send you a group invite. In the group page, there are some sub areas you should get acquainted with, specifically the contracts. Contracts are going to be objective based missions that will help set a theme and setting for your writing. It also will allow you to meet and work with the other members to complete said objectives. You will need to complete an initiation contract with your character to logically explain his enrollment. After completion, you will be a full member and get a taste of the EXP, GP, and Judging systems. I think you will enjoy the structure and if you have any input, I am open to hear it.

Preferred position: Hand of the shadow; would be willing to try the hands of the word as well, but not sure it would fit with this character concept
Reason to join: I'm new to the PbP rpg, but every character I've ever tried to make in any rpg game inevitably ends up as a ranged assassin, so I thought I would go that route with my first character. The Order of the Crimson Hand seems like a natural fit for that type of character. Also, I'm more interested in the role playing aspect of the game than the actual combat.
For the character himself, I see the Crimson hand as an opportunity for him to use his skills while he continues to try to discover who he really is and why he has these skills.
You will be a perfect fit! Welcome! I will put you with the other shadows. When you get the group invite, check the members only for an initiation contract. Gunther may be willing to work with you on his. The amnesia portion if your character is great for the order. Mine has something similar but it's more PTSD than anything. Love the last name too. Why do you want your character to join The Order? For one, Lye, it's through your recommendation that I'm here, and I'd like to show a little loyalty. Also, this sounds like just the group I've been looking for in a roleplay, and I feel my characters abilities will allow for some interesting scenarios. Other than that, I need a way to introduce my character to Althanas without waiting for a quest or creating my own, so I feel like taking a mission would be a good start. If you accept me, I'm aiming for Right Hand!
Welcome Erikar! Glad to know all my hard work has intrigued so many. I was just saying how I needed more Hands of the Shadow. Good timing! My only problem is you have competition good sir. We have several people interested in those top two positions. They aren't reserved for anyone just yet, but those that prove their worth in character, and lend me a hand with all this out of character stuff will get the position. If he feel you have the mettle, let's see it! Those that don't make left or right hands will eventually be eligible for leadership of three to six man strike teams. Obviously, we need to establish ourselves first and get a strong regular flow of activity. Once that has happened, The Order will begin to make some changes for the better!

In essence, it fits her character beautifully, would give Phi a perfect job and oppurtunity to become involved with a group. She is a whore and a fair bit of a sneaky bitch, so works easily as a flirt-bed-kill in bed kind of character. i.e. a prostitute spy and assassin. Her personality is rather strong willed and I think she would be a good asset in the end. And also, lets face it, she is very pretty. Also, I am new here so trying to get involved with as much stuff as possible.

You will have to complete some form of initiation. I can work with you on a contract idea. This can be solo or with others. The others do not have to be members, but the objectives of the contract need to be fulfilled. We have several bounties to kill some player characters which would be an easy thread. You may also want to work with Aure as your initiation.

Heads up to all members of The Order:
I am taking a holiday leave you can read more about in the Intro/Outro forum. While I am gone I will draft some contracts on my flights. If you would like to help me get the ball rolling for more contracts and incentives, you too can create contracts like the ones I have in the member's only area and PM them to me. I would like to have at least 10 new contracts for when I return.
Also, those that are currently in threads for initiation or otherwise, please get a few posts in while I am gone. I would like us to get them all finished so we can get our OOC HQ and begin earning monthly EXP and GP for our hard work. I am also adding a new branch to The Order known as Hands of the Forge. These members will be our crafting and gathering units. They will help us supply our own members, but also use our knowledge of secrets and word of mouth to lock down unique ingredients/blueprints for their craft. If you know any members that would fit within our ranks that would fit that group, give them a few friendly nudges.
Also, keep your eyes peeled for an update to the overall header to The Order. I am making some tweaks to our purpose and back story.
Overall, anyone that contributes greatly to The Order will be strongly considered for either the Left or Right hands. I am also willing to throw some GP or a free commission to whomever helps me keep The Order strong and moving in the right direction to secure our Headquarters.

Fox is always looking for ways to expand his business opportunities, gain access to new materials, and learn more about potions and other forms of enchantments. Also, he knows that many times he is not strong enough to explore dangerous areas for ingredients and figures The Order might be able to help him with it if he can help them out in return.
Note: As of now, both Fox and Wolf are unaware they are half brothers.

It makes sense for his character to get involved with shady dealings and intelligence gathering. He's not the up front sort of guy when it comes to matters of the blade, though he's generally looked up to. I want him to become a strategist on a larger scale, and the Crimson Hand might just be able to implement those skills nicely.

At this point, I need to press progress. Whichever is easiest for you, I will accommodate and make sure the initiation is still quality to test your characters. Their involvement in The Order should help progress their storyline. Lye is just an agent to admit you to the cause and help further your personal story lines.

I am 100% confident that the whole forum knows your disposition with the event happening in Moriah. Seeing as how BlueGhostofSeaside has volunteered her imaginary country as a location, we may just have it happen in that setting. Whatever the backdrop colors and details are, we are still going to war. If it is relocated, I would appreciate your assistance. If not, I respect your decision to abstain. Understand that The Order is operating as a mercenary group in this war with our own pretenses for getting involved. We have nothing against whichever country it takes place. We are getting involved to spread out influence and ultimately obtain an HQ I feel that we greatly deserve.

Consider this my retirement, i no longer wish to serve Lye. Being said i am not an enemy rather an ally working for the same goal. If this calls for blood, come to my shrine once established and i will gladly sever any heads.
This is acceptable. The Order will see you as a consult for additional aide in the manner of cloak and dagger tactics. I will have you removed from the PG site, but keep you on roster as a consult.
All Order members, please keep in mind that I will be paying exceptionally close attention to your activity over the next couple weeks. Those that are not posting or contributing to the clan over this period of time will be cut and hunted ICly as a deserter.

The Network - A secret terrorist organization led by Vanessa Wraith. The goal of The Network is unknown but what is known is they profit from any conflicts they get involved. The organization has many spies around Althanas from Akashiman hoodlums, to scientists in Alerar and even within major militaries. Officially, many countries are opposed to them but some countries secretly work with them if they gain something from it. As of yet there are only limited members of the organization with only four main leaders of the factions.

Because we never have even as yet completed that quest (Business and Pleasure) I barely know where Philomel stands in terms of her actual working in Crimson Order. I am in the process of creating a sort of minor power-group, headed by Philomel herself that is essentially a spy-group via brothels and whores.
Really anything that you want, Philomel will do. I am currently on a quest that I started to assassinate a guy in an asylum, but I am up for starting another!!!
Any killing needing to be done, anyone?
Once I get to posting, we'll get her going. I'm going to stop focusing on my posts being refined and worry more about progressing storylines. I need to get Lye involved and push The Crimson Hands into major canon.

Also, please note that Crispin Richards (Less Careful), Nyadir D'var (Ebivola), Tyson Leblanc (Monster_Hunter), and Grensch Livereater (Muck) have all been removed from the roster for lack of activity and will not be hunted due to their failure to complete initiation.

Nosdyn is interested in joining CH as a Hands of the Blade. Things need doing, he'll get them done. Lives need snuffing out, he'll get that done too. Voices need silenced, chaos needs to emerge, and the Demons of Olde will have their place once more. Nosdyn will be the vehicle for CH's triumph across Althans. Nosdyn is a smaller piece of a larger puzzle, and enigma that is waiting to unfold. He is the blade in the dark, the assassin's sword, the sinewed muscle. The dirty warrior with blood on his hands that will take on any dirty job.

An expert in hiding and staying alive, Yakob (is aiming to be) the darkest killer that there is. His future will, at some point, become entwined with Philomel's, and also the Crimson Hand is the best darn Power Group there is.

Yakob will succeed as an agent here, a bit of a stray dog but something that will be more useful under Lye's power than not.

Zelrius is all about Mischief and mayhem, and Is more than willing to use his intellect and wit in order to help cause it. I will get you formally added to the list momentarily as well as send an invitation to join our private, backroom group. At the moment, the group is dormant and experiencing a change of leadership. Stick with us though, as we have some plans to smooth out the kinks and move in a forward direction.
At present, our PG has initiation threads to undergo before canonically joining The Crimson Hands. These can be in the form of an issued mission, or a test of strength in combat.

To My Brethren in Blood,
It has been a year since the events that transpired shortly after Eiskalt. Madison Freebird and Aurelianus Drak'shal have served well over these long months, and repaired the dissent wrought by my past actions. I see now that my actions toward those sworn to our cause were unwarranted. The blood of those who fought by your side and died are upon my hands. Their losses had a purpose and despite my earlier claims, were a necessary cost to purchase change on Althanas. The Crimson Hands have recovered. We have tempered and honed ourselves. In this, we have proven our power and showed Althanas we are no longer something that can be ignored. We are a force, and our will cannot be denied.
In light of my return as Master of the Crimson Hands, I have decided to reach out to those who remain loyal to the cause. Those who were pardoned during Madison's reign will remain so. Those who decide to return will be asked to sharpen their blades, polish their armor, and prepare for combat. This is not a needless battle. I must see with my own eyes that your blades have not dulled and your skills have not softened in my leave.
It has come to my understanding that Philomel Van'Der Aart has not only replaced Aurelianus as Master of the Secrets, but has formed her own independent group, The Guilded Lily. We have discussed this and while I condone her zeal, I aim to test her resolve as a leader. We, the members of The Crimson Hand, will be the ones to test it.
Fret not, for this is will not be another slaughter of innocents or allies. I have acquired a privatized agreement with a third party to ensure no lives be lost as a result of this skirmish. Those felled in this battle will be relocated and revived by contracted healers. Your identities will remain secret and no punishment will be issued to those who refuse to participate.
Should The Crimson Hands triumph over the Guilded Lily, we are cease all hostilities. They will remain allies regardless of outcome. Consider this venture a wide-scale training for both of us should we ever encounter an invasion on our soil. This is not meant to break bonds, but strengthen them.
In conclusion, I ask you to curb your skepticism, for I am no longer the Tyrant you labeled me to be. Let me prove it on the field whilst helping the Crimson Hands hone their skills and remember the power that we wield. Madison Freebird, now The Left Hand, and Aurelianus Drak'shal, The Right Hand, will both be present at my side during this event.
I ask that you, too, join me once again.

A declaration of war has been issued against the Guilded Lily, Philomel's PG. She has accepted under the agreement this is not to be a hostile conflict. Our two groups will remain affiliated regardless of outcome. This war is ICly seen as a trial to find out if the Guilded Lily is prepared for their independence. Should the CH prevail, they will remain under our wing and be given the utmost support we can offer. Should the Guilded Lily prevail, they will have proven their might as a separate entity and earned the privileged to operate without regard to the Crimson Hands.
This letter is also a reinstatement of Lye to the command of The Crimson Hands after twelve months of reformation in the hands of Madison Freebird and Aurelianus Drak'shal. Now, more than ever, we are seeking new blood to join our ranks. Should you have interest, join our cause in testing the might of the Guilded Lily and your participation will waiver and official initiation should you choose.

As a friendly reminder, The Crimson Hands are still looking for new members. Our PG focus is shifting toward a less polar evil and more towards a Morally Gray group. Our primary is the "correction" of faulty governments, corrupt officials, systems that are "too good" or "too bad", any monopolies, and to create an imbalance where needed (ie, stimulate economy or expedite revolution).
Our secondary focus is to collect and understand relics affiliated with men/women/places of legend. Some examples being the relics of light that sealed Xem'Zund, the weapons of those who slayed Pode, anything related to Casandra Remi, blood from the heart of Forral's Fortress, etc. These will also include powerful artifacts to add to our vault such as Maramusa - The Cursed Blade, Gungnir - The Fatal Spear, The Zodiac Weapons, and yes, The Holy Grail - The Chalice of Infinite.
We are still looking for people with specialized skillsets and that are not afraid to take lives when deemed necessary. There are current positions for leadership and the roster will be trimmed of inactive members.
