History: Born into a life of academia, Itsuko enrolled to the Shogunate Academy in Nanjing, the north province of Capitol. His father, a respected Gosuto, was harsh on his son. His mother, specialising in infants, over caring and passionate. Torn between two extremes, his education at the academy was fraught with contradiction. He specialised in field medicine, as all Gosuto do. Whilst training ‘ghost-stitching’, Itsuko took rubble to the chest at the Battle of Yanbo.

At the age of twenty-five, the student returned to the academy in a deathly coma. The rock had crushed his ribcage, leaving the ribs perforating his lungs, but not venting blood or air by luck and fortitude. His arms were lost through damage to the nerves. It took the Gōsuto, his father amongst them, six months to rebuild his body, tether his soul into a shedinja (a soul husk), and bring him back to consciousness. He lost both arms in the process, and remains sickly pale and of ill health.

After graduation, Itsuko took it upon himself to rebuild his body. This allowed him to specialise in post-mortem medicine, and in aiding, the wounded to return to civilian life after war end and battles pester out. People come to temple from across Akashima, children born frail, farmhands without legs from harvest’s fate. However, Itsuko is ‘half’, and his mind haunted by the oni he sacrificed to extend his life. It is only through bestowing life upon others that the son of Mori and Zhang Hasegawa thrives.

Skills:

-: Priest: Itsuko is fully ordained as a priest, and is able to perform wedding, birth, death, and honour blessings in temples and shrines dedicated to the Greater Kami. He is well versed in lore and learning.

-: Surgeon: In addition to Gōsuto, Itsuko is a trained surgeon, able to understand and explain how to heal a variety of physical maladies. He can perform these feats with surgical tools or ghost stitching.

-: Scholar: A dedicated, analytical, and critical student, Itsuko has retained his passion for expanding his medical knowledge. When not tending to the wounding, the destitute or other responsibilities, he is studying.

Abilities:

Gosuto: The ability to create new limbs, heal wounds, and undo the ravages of war has become a treasured gift indeed in the wake of the Oni war. The Gosuto, spirit stitches, ghost doctors, and soul singers, use a man’s soul as bandage and herb.

Build: A difficult and painstaking process, building new limbs from spiritual energy is not without sacrifice. The process is painful, can kill the patient, and there is no guarantee the spirit will accept the new appendage.

Bind: Natural healing of sinew, skin, and muscle can take months. By binding severed limbs, broken arteries, and scalp together with ‘ghost stitches’, the Gosuto can heal non-fatal injuries in days, increasing in time with severity.

Bridge: As a temporary measure, a Gosuto can build a bridge to keep a spirit from passing over whilst his body is recovered, or a parting message can be delivered. The bridge lasts only until the next sunrise.

Simulacrum: Itsuko is alive only through mastery of the Gosuto art. His chest contains the withered husk of an Oni’s heart, bound in a steel ventricle, tethered by ghostly strands to his arteries and lungs. He is ‘half’, one foot in heaven, one in hell.

Frail: Itsuko is sickly, has a pallid complexion, and suffers from a menagerie of illness. His strength, speed, and endurance are -0.5 that of a normal, physical healthy twenty six year old male.

Eternal: Itsuko can recover from injuries using his own Gōsuto technique, and the spiritual energy in his soul cage. He no longer ages and is immortal (major wounds and fatal injuries will kill him in the normal manner).

Phantom: His arms are ghostly from the shoulder down. Though they have a physical presence, and wrapped in bandages, he does not feel pain in them. They do not bleed. They do however follow all other physical conventions.

Inventory: Itsuko lives a nomadic life. Much of his time spent in the field, or at temple, and as such, he lives in the cloisters of the Grand Tokyun at the Shogun’s palace, along with most other Gōsuto. What he does own, he carries with him.

Priestly Vestments: Itsuko’s attire is symbolic to his station as much as it is functional in keeping him alive. His bandages indicate where his limbs are, and his headpiece and leather suit keep his frail body supported and warm.

Kwuarm Poultice: Itsuko has an infinite supply of Kwuarm Poultice. This herbal draft contains antibiotic herbs and minerals to maintain energy through constant illness. They are fatal to others and are otherwise worthless.

Divining Sphere: A luminescent sky blue sphere maintained in a sextant. This device allows telepathic and visual communication with other Gōsuto, government officials, and military leaders across Akashima.
