Heylo all denizens of cyberspace! If you couldn't tell by your own slightly raised eyebrow, you don't know me, as I am as new as it gets. I'm really hoping to get to know everyone however, and thought I might get a convo started while I wait for character approval.
So, ye scribes of fantasy, what tunes do ya blast when you're making your keyboard do its thing?
For perspective, some of my current loves:

I listen to anything that doesn't have words and mach the mood of the story.

I can totally dig it. I personally love atmospheric, haunting music but I've been on a trip-hop kick lately.
Greetings newcomer!
Hope you enjoy your stay.
I like to listen to melodic death metal, folk metal, or symphonic metal whilst I type away.
Pretty much anything in the metal genre, & anything heavy.
p.s. Nice quote, & I love the movie Fright Night. Wouldn't touch the remake though.
I'm much like Hoytti. I listen to non lyrical music as I write. I have a few somber tracks but many of them are scores from action scenes or trailer music. I find the intense melody and choir make me try to write something worthy of the epic score in my ears.

Love all the responses, I can relate to every one.
@Noir, I wish I was able to write to heavy stuff! Internally, I feel like it releases a torrent of creativity but it's so scattered I can't focus it. The first Fright Night was magnificent, if a bit campy, and the second one was just... Well, I think an ellipsis is all it deserves.
@Lye, I totally groove with that. I especially love anything done by Hanz Zimmer.
It depends for me. Sometimes, music can help with the mood of my writing; like if there's a song about fighting back against somebody who tries to hurt you, that song can improve my aggressiveness in a battle post (I've listened to Fireflight and The Letter Black at times for some of the League fights). However, at other times, music can be just plain distracting, whether it has lyrics or not.
I write to whatever comes to mind first. Though my default is Hip-hop instrumental tracks. No words to distract me there. Unless of course I start coming up with lyrics to whatever side project I have, then that's cool too.

You want atmospheric non-lyrical music, cutter?
Try the Thief: Deadly Shadows soundtrack, and the Planescape: Torment soundtrack.
They are always on when I write.
