Name: Freyja of Nineveh. The Sarcelet Saracen. Slayer.
Age: 22
Race: Human Berserker
Hair Color: Red
Eye Color: Gold
Height: 6'0
Weight: 160 lbs
Occupation: Mercenary
Personality:
Contrary to her bright appearance the woman can be described as dark and brooding. Seemingly distracted most of the time when her attention is not focused on talking to a person, she is otherwise reserved to herself. Freyja is a woman of few words but the ones she chooses to express herself with reflect upon her set values and never carry deceit. She will not be one to beat around the bush with a person, rather short and direct. The redhead exhibits few insecurities, the main one concerning the scar she bears on her right cheek due to the shame that has been associated with it during her youth.
Freyja has a strong sense of justice and usually accepts jobs that will not disadvantage those she perceives weak. When one manages to befriend the woman and earn her admiration, her loyalty knows no bounds. She cannot, however, find herself intimate or emotionally close to another person due to the 'affliction' she has.
Appearance:
With bronze skin, kissed by years in the sun, the woman possesses bright red hair that is equally matched by gold eyes. These features are likely attributes of her possession. Her hair is cut short but no less tamed, instead left as a tangled mess on the top of her head to keep from getting in her face in combat. Her narrow, feminine features that have been set from years of abuse and hardship happens to be interrupted by a long, trailing scar on her right cheek. The marred skin, referred to as the Mark, starts from the corner of her eye and runs parallel to her jaw line to end just under her mouth.
Like most people of her lands, Freyja is tall and, from years of training, developed a toned body. She keeps covered from shoulders to foot in various layers of grey and blue cotton fabric beneath the armour acquired from her homeland. The steel breastplate has been etched by it's crafters with elaborate lines, twisting in to knots, that come to the center in the shape of the sun. Tied to her hips and hanging from her back is a tattered and frayed red cloth, the color that gives name to her title.
Skills:
Limited literacy of the common-tongue.
Swordplay - Double wielding or two-handed style. Prefers the previous form which suits her more reckless and agile style of fighting.
Novice grappling skills.
Adept survival skills in wilderness and desert climates.
Abilities:
1. Increased strength. Currently as Freyja stands in her youth and awakened abilities she possesses strength double that of a normal human. Each level will proceed to double the previous amount of strength as she progresses. Currently Freyja has little difficulty in lifting a grown man off his feet as well as breaking bones.
2. Increased regeneration. Due to the inner power that fuels Freyja and causes her to have a constant, low-grade fever the woman has gained a heightened metabolism and rate of healing. While the drawbacks make it so that she can never get more than a buzz when consuming alcohol the benefits allow her to have a higher resistance to certain poisons meant to paralyze or cause ailments. At her current level she is not immune to lethal or paralyzing poisons, only those that are intended to slow her down/make sluggish.
The passive healing Freyja has at this time can mend wounds in half the time it normally takes to remedy without aid. As the levels increase, the time continues to be halved than the previous unless the injuries inflicted are fatal. Broken bones will take more time to heal than flesh wounds.
3. Fire retardation. Freyja is simply put somewhat fireproof. The woman has gained a slight immunity to the element that continues to build up over her progression as the power of the infernal demon matures. At this point she is able to withstand low grade heat of embers but not direct flames. If exposed the damage she takes is half of what a normal human can bear - the degree of burns less on top of the discomfort associated with them. As the woman grows in levels the resistance will increase and after full immunity is achieved will then serve to benefit the woman.
4. Berserker status. Not mastered. It is a fit of unbridled rage that is triggered as a last resort. Meant to draw from the source of her core - the infernal spirit that possesses her - it brings her body to the brink of death due to the intense strain put on her physical body and mind. This state is highly dangerous to bystanders due to being unable to distinguish between friend or foe - only driven by the need to survive. Freyja is no longer held back by fear or the pain inflicted on her body during this state. The duration is determined on eliminating the threat at that time but the longer the woman is in this state, due to the rush of adrenaline flooding her body and the power barely contained, the greater the harm. At her current level if set in to this state the chance of death is near guaranteed.
Equipment:
Pair of steel short swords set in matching leather scabbards on her hips.
Set of steel armour (breastplate, pauldrons, vambraces, and greaves) with leather bindings holding the pieces together.
One shawl, which is a stained, heavy canvas-like cloth, meant to wrap over her upper body to store her bodyheat. The excess around her neck is used like a hood.
History:
It is said that when one witnesses a great tragedy a void is created within the heart which can then be occupied by a separate force. When such events occur alongside fire it summons an infernal spirit, sometimes benign but most of the time sinister.
The Outlands, the uncharted territory of Althanas, is home to monsters and man-kind brave enough to face the former. In these realms civilization struggles to gain hold but in the land of Nineveh the people survived if only to battle one another. Home to various tribes spread across tropical and desert lands, worshiping their own deity, the inhabitants fought for the resources that gave them power over others. Throughout the years the conflict drove tribes together for a common goal, and even religion, that drove others in to extinction who resisted. Those eventually conquered and allowed to live were forced in to servitude for this growing, unified caliphate.
It was one of these tribes destroyed that Freyja came from and thus suffered the loss of her people, her family, and her home. Being just a child at the time, it was a mystery as to how she had survived then. The secret, later discovered by Freyja as she entered adulthood, was that on that fateful night as her slain mother and siblings laid burning beside her the child made a pact with the spirit that visited her. In exchange for her life she will be given a chance for revenge. Once agreed and she was safe, the spirit became dormant as it waited for the moment for their deal to be carried out. For the host to become suitable.
Revenge came years later as the swelling of the caliphate in its quest for power resulted in a fracture and civil war. Freyja, among other children, had spent her developing years trained and hardened to be soldiers under this empire. It seemed fitting for them to be the power that swayed the battle in favor of the people once enslaved. Unfortunately during this time, as the girl aged in to adulthood, the previously dormant spirit awakened in the human - becoming a berserker.
Fearful of the danger the girl risked, and seeing the destruction she brought on as the alterego of Slayer, Freyja was rejected by the people of Nineveh who drove themselves in to further strife by the ensuing war. Without a tribe or people to align herself to, the woman wandered from the Outlands now on a quest to control what lies beneath and plagues her mind - the demon that possesses her.
