Riordan dar Faile
12-21-13, 03:11 PM
Name: Riordan dar Faile
Age: 34
Sex: Female
Race: Drakeling
Height: 6'
Weight: 180 lbs
Eye Colour: Black
Scale Colour: Navy Blue

Appearance: priding herself on her warrior training, it is a rare thing to see Riordan without her weapons. The axe she keeps sheathed on her back, nestled carefully between her wings. Her whip is stored on her left hip and she wears her shield on her left forearm, overtop the heavy sclaes and the claw of her left hand. Because her feet are so heavily covered in scale, she does not bother with shoes (for further description of scale coverage, look under abilities). For dress she can normally be found in loose fitting cotton pants and a long vest. Like most Wing caste members she has no hair, but she does have a ring of horns that protrude from her brow and travel up onto her head, which is a rarity even in the Wing and Flame castes. Her jaw is square and her scales come down to cover over her cheeks and most of her forehead, stopping at her brow line. Her nose is flatter to her face than a humans and her overall facial structure has a slight serpentine quality to it. She has various scars covering a well muscled body, from a lifetime of struggling to survive, and a pair of wings that when unfolded are 6 feet long from one clawed tip to the next.

Personality: Riordan can come across as a very hard, and uncaring person. She has a tough exterior, a shell she developed over the years to guard her emotions against the hardships she has faced. Beneath that shell, is a young woman who desperately wants nothing more than a place to belong and a father that accepts her. She will do almost anything to prove her worth to the Ceann Cath, but she lives by the motto 'Honour above all else'.

Abilities

Strength - as a Draconian, Riordan has 2x the strength of a human, allowing her to easily lift up to 100lbs and break small bones in the body.

Blood Magic - Riordan has attended Eolas Braolin in order to learn the basics of blood magic.

Riordan can manipulate free flowing blood, blood that is no longer in the body, be it her own or someone else's. She can shape it, move it or throw it by her command, which does take concentration, effort and energy. She can create any shape imaginable, but is limited by the volume of blood available to her. She cannot create a ten foot sword, if she only has half a pint of blood to work with. If she hardens it, the blood has the same strength as steel and looks like a red crystal. Right now she can manipulate up to a pint of blood and it has to be within twenty feet of her in order to take control of it. Also, she can only hold that control for a short period of time, 2 posts for a battle and up to five minutes for a quest.

Scales - Like most Draconians of the Wing caste, Riordan has more scale than skin. The highest concentration of it is on her back, where it completely covers her right down to the rise of her ass, then wraps around her torso to cover most of her stomach, the back half of her neck and down her breast bone, but her breasts are not covered in scales. Her shins and knees have scales and her feet are more clawed than human looking. Her arms have scales from the elbow down, the left more heavily covered and her left hand is clawed as well. Being a young Draconian, her scales only have the strength of leather right now.

Weapons

Double Headed Battle Axe - Her main weapon. Riordan wield it one handed and keeps her shield on her other arm. The axe is two and a half feet long, the blades themselves being a foot long from one curved tip to the other. It's made of iron and liviol.

Whip - Riordan's secondary weapon, a six foot long leather whip tipped with shards of crystal along the length of the cord and a large one tied into the end. They are the same strength as iron.

Armour

Round Shield - a round shield that fits on Riordan's forearm. It's three feet in diameter has small steel rivets along it and a large, rounded steel deflector in the centre. Made of oak.

Draconian Social Structure

Illegitimate Children - Children born in Dheathain outside the binding ritual are given worth not by their parentage, but by their caste. Instead of their father's first name, they inherit the name of their caste so that all will know they are an unrecognized child. Some father's may choose to bring them into the fold and give them their name, removing the stigma, but this is rare and only done when the child proves themselves to be worthy. Illegitimate children are usually considered the lowest member of society of their given caste.

Claw caste - dar Grunnd (ground)
Wing caste - dar Faile (air)
Flame caste - dar Teine (fire)
Blood caste - dar Fuil (blood)

History - Riordan is the bastard daughter of Darroch dar Gavriel, Ceann Cath to the Drakeling race. She was born in the slums of Suuthain and spent the first ten years of her life in that rotting cesspool. Born of a woman from the Claw caste, but of the Wing caste herself, Riordan faced constant ridicule as a scape goat to many of the people around her in Lower Suuthain. She was beaten by adults and children alike, and even her own mother detested her presence. She spent the first ten years of her life scraping to survive in a place that wanted nothing more than to beat her down.

During her tenth year of life, one of Treorai an Ti came to Lower Suuthain on business and Riordan had the unfortunate (or fortunate) luck of being in the area when a group of children decided to throw stones at the man. When caught, the children blamed her and knowing that talking back to her elders, or protesting her innocence, only got her beat worse, Riordan said nothing. Instead of beating her, Cahir dar Laighin asked her name and took her back to her mother.

She eavesdropped and listened to them talk about her and her parentage. It was the first time her mother ever said the name of her father and the knowledge lit a fire of hope inside the young Drakeling. She also listened as her mom willingly gave her up to the man without so much as a fight or a whispered word of protest, 'take her and be gone, I want nothing more to do with her filth' were the last words she ever heard her mother say.

Riordan moved to Upper Suuthain that day. She was given a room in the barracks and began training the very next day. She didn't meet her father for another five months after she was brought above, and all her hopes were quickly dashed when she did. He wanted nothing to do with her, considered her weak and tainted due to being bore by a woman of Claw heritage. When she thought the other trainees would accept her, she was quickly shown otherwise. The other children thought her priviledged, or given special treatment, they picked on her worse than those in Lower Suuthain. Instead of taking it though, Riordan began to fight back. At first this only got her beat worse, but eventually, as her skills grew, she gave worse than she got and the other trainees began to leave her alone.

As the years passed, she stuck with the training, always trying to be the best, always trying to prove to her father that she was worthy of his name. Eventually, she made it into the military and found herself assigned to Treorai Cahir's, the man who originally saved her from the slums. He had been there the whole time, helping her with her training, giving her advice and being an ear when she needed it. She still has very little contact with her father, but Riordan knows one day she will prove her worth and he will give her his name.

Welcome!

First thing first, can you change your axe and whip to iron?

Blood Magic – Whats the range of your magic? Could you for example turn blood dripping down someone's arm into a chain and lash said arm to their leg? Otherwise can you limit how often you can use this a thread or day?

Strength – Can you define this a bit more? What can she do with that strength?

Scales – Are you planning on upgrading this with each level, or purchasing upgrades (via thread rewards or bazaar purchases?). It won't change your character's strength at the moment, but it'll be easier for us mods if it sits in abilities if you plan to increase it as you level up.

Illegitimate Children – Should this be under the Armour heading...?

Okay, I think I got everything, Hys.

I put in some edits to Blood Magic, I knew you'd hit that one but when I wrote it up I was unsure how to limit it.

I defined strength.

I moved Scales into abilities, even though I don't like it in there because it's armour. It will grow in strength as she gets old/more powerful.

I gave the Illegitimate Children it's own heading, it wasn't supposed to look like it was under armour.

I changed the whip to iron strength, but can I have one weapon at steel, please?

I'm going to have to play the grinch, everyone is getting iron starting equipment. You can pay to upgrade the whip from iron to steel in the bazaar, I don't think it is too expensive.

Blood Magic - Is the 2 posts /15 minute limit the extent of what she can use her blood magic for, or is that per occasion? If the latter how many times can she use the ability a battle?

Wow, really? Can't have steel weapons anymore? That seems silly...

It's a 5 minute time limit, but I'll gladly change it to 15. XD As for your last question, I'm not even sure how I would limit the amount of times she could use it in battle. I didn't think about it, as using the ability would tire her out. Damn you guys are getting seriously specific. I mean, if the battle is short, she'd probably only have the chance to use it once, but if the battle stretched on for like 15-20 posts, she may be able to use it again. But it's all dependent on whether or not there's even any blood for her to use in the area and how worn out she is at that point in the fight. How can I even estimate how tired she's going to get in battle? It all depends on whether or not it's going in her favour or she's getting her ass kicked.

Might just be a good idea to increase it to 3 posts in battle and that's all she can do right now, because I'm not sure how else to nit pick it.

It was always a rule, but sometimes stuff got through.

Re: Blood Magic, I think its fine to leave it as you have it. So you're approved! Thanks for your patience.
