Basic Background: 19 year old milkmaid, dreaming of adventure in the great wide somewhere.
Appearance: Rail thin with impressively defined shoulders and arms - mucking out barns has perks. Short brown hair, brown eyes, and skin that has seen enough sun to be solidly in the "brown" category as well.
History: Mai grew up on a dairy farm that straddled the border between Akashima and the rest of Corone. Her family was fairly solitary, and her parents a little awkward about the whole socializing and community thing. As the oldest, they still hadn't quite managed to marry her off by the age of 19. Full of hormones and wanderlust, she spent her days milking the cows and the nights dreaming of a handsome prince who would swoop down and take her away from the smell of manure.
One day, she was strapping hay into bales when a stranger came riding up the road and stopped at the farmhouse. He was ethereally beautiful, an angel among men. With shining alabaster skin and clothed in finery, she couldn't imagine why he would ask her parents for a job. Yet, her mother and father seemed as taken by him as she was, and he was allowed to work.
The few days that he spent, Mai could feel a connection between the two. He seemed so romantic as he watched her across the dinner table, gentlemanly as he watched her through her window as she slept, and perfect as he perched on the rooftop and watched her while she worked. Wait, what?
The dawn of the third day, Mai woke to blood on her sheets just under her neck, and a strange thirst that water wouldn't quench. She and her bed were also no longer in her room, but nestled in a copse of redwood far from home. She felt compelled to move north, to find the coven, whatever the coven was.
