Clueless

Basic Information
Name: Mark aka “Clueless”
Age: 19
Race: Human
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Brown
Height: 6'
Weight: 160 pounds
Occupation: Evil Wizard Want-to-be

Personality
Mark completely lives up to his nickname and is utterly clueless, stupid, and easy to trick. If you told him the moon was going to be blue tomorrow, he would stay awake all night to try and see it. He is completely honest and if he told a lie, it's because he thought it was true. He actually tends to be quite kind and helpful despite supposing wanting to be a villain because he has no sense of what's good and evil.

Appearance
Mark is just your average farmer boy. His body is fairly muscular from all the hard work and his feet and hands are all rough. He's rather a plain person with no distinguishing features.

History
Mark was born into the average farmer family. He was always a good person who listened to what he was told however he was always rather clueless and stupid. However, being smart isn't that important for farming. His family learned that they could just teaching to do something and just have him go do it the whole day by promising him that something special would happen to him. As for meeting other children his age, they would tease him and treat him poorly but Mark never cared, he thought they were just having fun and that it was just some game or something.
One day, an evil wizard decided to test his army of undead and completely wiped Mark's village and family. Lucky for Mark, he was away trying to catch one of the lost sheep. When he came back, he was rather shocked by the site and was wondering why no one was responding. In the distance, he saw the retreating undead army around the evil wizard. Seeing that sight, Mark decided that was the coolest thing he has seen and therefore decided he would become an evil wizard.

Skills
Farming – If Mark knows how to do anything, it's farming. He has spent his whole life doing it and thus knows all about planting and growing things. Also, he knows how to handle farm equipment like shovel, pitchforks, axes among others.

Abilities
Mimic – One unusual ability Mark always had is the ability to mimic other people. He would try to talk like them, do the same fighting moves, or even try to repeat magical abilities he sees. 60% of the time he ends up failing to get anywhere close but the other 40%, he actually manages to mimic it at a low level (In this case level 0-1). So if he sees a mage shooting a fireball, he might actually be able to shoot a little burst of flame himself.

However, he doesn't really remember what he did so he can't repeat the same thing again even if he pulled it off successfully without the person he was copying doing it again.

Here's how the result of this ability will be determined: 1d1000 (Using random.org or something)

0-599 (Low: 1-199, Middle: 200-399, High: 400-599) - Failure to mimic. On the lower end, might cause some damage to self. Middle, nothing happens. Higher end of the range, maybe a small light or glow but doesn't actually do anything.
600-1000 (Low: 600-750, Middle: 750-900, High 900-1000) - Successful mimic. On the lower end, it has very little effect maybe just a regular static shock for a lightning bolt. Middle would result in something around a level one ability like a lightning bolt that might stun someone and/or cause light burn damage. High end would be slightly beyond that and might produce a lightning bolt capable to stunning/burning two people or causing a bit more serious damage to one person.

Note: This ability is slightly draining for Mark to do since his body is not used to the motions and energy flow. He can use it at max 8 times in battle due to the compound effect of using the ability and all the adrenaline.

Strength – Due to all the farm work, Mark is roughly 1.5 times as strong as the average person.

Weaknesses
Extremely easy to trick – Tell him that you will double his money and he'll give you all he has. Tell him an evil wizard must keep his room clean and he'll make sure there's not a speck of dust anywhere.

Combat – Mark has absolutely no combat experience. If given a sword, he's likely to cut himself drawing it. He has no idea what it's like to kill and would probably stop before that due to his concern for the other person.

Equipment
Iron pitchfork
Iron Ax
Iron Shovel

Note: This character idea kind of came from the overused farmer boy to hero. Figured I would change it up a bit. :D

Howdy.

Interesting character. Rather than an anti hero, he is almost an anti villain.

With mimic, can you give it a number of uses? You can rp him failing to mimic the ability, but have the number of successful mimics set.

Hmm, is there any way to get around the usage limitation? I'm willing to weaken the character although I'm not sure what you would consider making it balanced.

Some ideas I had:
Lowering the chances he succeeds (Planning on using a random number generator so even I won't know if he will succeed or not)
Reducing equipment
Reducing/Removing strength ability

Would any of these work or do you have some other idea that might?

Also, this character has a large weakness of being very very stupid and easy to trick. Is that taken into account at all?

So what would be the effect if someone shot a lightning bolt, capable of taking out five people?

For a lightning bolt like that it would probably in most cases either be nothing (failed) or a small bolt capable of stunning one or two people and maybe inflicting minor burn damage at best. In rare cases, a failure might result in the build up of magic energy that is properly released causing serious damage to Mark. In the best rare case, he might actually produce something slightly above his level like a lightning bolt that is capable of causing serious shock/burn damage but again, it would be extremely rare.

Here's kind of what I was thinking. If the rare cases (1, 1000) don't really appeal to you, I can just take them off but I thought it might give it a bit of fun if the rare case did happen somehow.
1d1000

1 - Worst case. Mark seriously messed up the mimic resulting in serious damage to himself. In the case of trying to mimic a lightning bolt, he might have just released it inside his body causing major burn damage and stunning himself.
2-599 (Low: 2-200, Middle: 201-399, High: 400-599) - Failure to mimic. On the lower end, might cause some damage to self. Middle, nothing happens. Higher end of the range, maybe a small light or glow but doesn't actually do anything.
600-999 (Low: 600-750, Middle: 750-900, High 900-999) - Successful mimic.
1000 - Best case. Mark pulled off a perfect/almost perfect mimic. However, since his power is a lot less than most people, the result won't be equal to a higher level person. For the example of lightning, he might be able to produce a bolt capable of seriously burning, stunning a person or doing moderate damage to two people.

Just to make it fun for myself and be more realistic to the character, I plan on writing his actions and not changing it based on the result. Example: I see a mage shooting a fireball at me. Somehow or another, I dodge it and attempt to shoot one back. I will not change the action even after I roll and see it comes up with 1.

Well, let me know what you think. If this is too complex or powerful or something, I can change it to be a lot less complex and powerful. Just thought it would be a fun ability that kind of fits in with the clueless character who likes to just be like others.

I can foresee an issue if in a competitive RP if you role the 1/1000. Can we limit this to just the middle two options? Can you also add the description of the two options into the ability?

I'd still like a number of successful mimics allowable, given the weakness, other skills, etc can it be limited at eight?

Could I ask if it is possible to limit it just for battles and not for quests? Maybe 3-6 times at most per battle thread with no limit for quest threads?

I also put the middle two options inside the character description.

I believe that would be fine, in most cases you wouldn't use all eight in a short amount of time (less than an hour in a quest), so that should be fine. If you could put in something about having eight successes in a battle than we are good to go.

Ok, added a note limiting it to 8 times usage in a battle. Is the way I phased it fine or did I misunderstand what you said?

Thank you for your patience.

Yep, that's fine. Thank you for you patience and have fun mimicking people! You're approved.
