OF THE MIND
PERSONALITY:
Once, Constantine was a jovial individual, full of laughter and love. He spent his afternoons lazing and gorging on the knowledge of his tutors, eager to meet the high expectations of his father. Those halcyon days are gone however, and now Constantine is a shadow of his former self. He is withdrawn, passing long periods without speaking, and when he does it is in short bursts. He is cruel and ruthless when necessary and will not hesitate to kill in order to pursue whatever goal is currently in his sights.[/size]
APPEARANCE:
Even in undeath, Constantine is not unfriendly to the eye, save for the deathly pallor fallen upon his flesh. His hair falls to his shoulders roughly. His face is gaunt, all angles, his eyes sunken and gaze baleful. He does not decompose, though this as divine favor from his new gods or a result of his unholy appetite is a curiosity yet unsatisfied. Normally he wears robes or armor, hiding as much flesh as possible, self-conscious about his new form. His skin is cold to the touch, and though he is not obviously dead, any who look upon him would notice that he is strangely incongruent among the living.
HISTORY:
Constantine was born into the gentry of the thriving colony of Scara Brae. As a youth he was always engaged in activities that most would consider beneath an individual of his status, spending his afternoons warring with the local gangs of urchin children and the common boys, in the long hours after his lessons were over. His mother, a frail woman who ached for her husband so that his absence turned her into a frequently-ill shell of a person, paid little heed to his mischievous behavior, and his father was gone altogether.
The senior Constantine was one of the world’s leading explorers, heading many of the early expeditions into Dheathain and Fallien. He was also thoroughly consumed by his hunger for adventure and the fame it brought, enough so that he visited his estate and his family perhaps a few weeks out of the year, and this he spent chastising Constantine for his lack of progress in his education and starving his wife of the affection she so craved.
They received notice of his disappearance in the mysterious lands of Fallien through a letter bequeathing to them his worldly possessions. Constantine’s mother could do nothing but watch as the weight of his father’s tragic obsession fell onto his shoulders. The boy became wholly consumed by the burning desire to leave his name etched into the fabric of history, driving him to diligently renew his studies with a passion that eventually led him down Scara Brae’s dark backstreets into the heart of its underworld, into the tent of one particular fortune-telling hag whose divine powers were alleged to clear the shrouds surrounding the future.
She whispered to him of a treasure buried in the grottos deep within the forests of Concordia, and Constantine threw himself wholeheartedly into an endeavor to seek it out. His adventure was ruthlessly cut short, however, as a bandit’s blade found his neck, ending his life before he’d even had a chance to live it.
In the darkness of the Fade, somewhere between life and death, however, was where his life truly began…
OF THE BODY
SKILLS:
Education - Constantine has received a proper education and has a typical educated person’s understanding of fields such as history, math, etc. His obsession with exploration has also ensured that he is well-versed on the local legends and lores of many cultures across the world.
A gift of tongues - Early in his life, his father ensured that his boy would be exposed to many of the different languages that are spoken throughout Althanas. This was to enable Constantine to better communicate once he took up his father’s mantle. Constantine is fluent in Common and Alerian, and is capable with Salvic, as well as the traders’ pidgen which is born in the slums and port cities of the world.
Swordsmanship - Constantine is a capable duelist, knowing his way around the techniques of a blade. It did not save his life against a group of bandits, however.
ABILITIES:
Unlight - Constantine can tap into the energies of the Fade to perform spells and other forms of magic. He describes this energy as "unlight."
Tendrils - Constantine is able to conjure tendrils of dark energy from the Fade. These tendrils are as strong as a man's arm. He can conjure two tendrils.
Summoning Magic - Constantine can summon monstrosities from the Fade to do his bidding.
First Circle - Constantine can summon one small imp hungry for human flesh. The imps are roughly the equivalent of fairies in size and stature. They are capable of performing basic tasks and can manifest for two posts.
Fadewalker - [NON-COMBAT] Constantine's experience in the Fade has thrust him into the folds between the worlds of life and death. He is sensitive to spiritual and magical phenomena and can see and communicate with spirits and ghosts as easily as with denizens of the mortal realm. He can travel short distances (200 meters) through the dreams of others, and can manipulate dreams to manifest in the Fade.
EQUIPMENT:
Besides all of his basic traveling necessities, Constantine is in possession of the following items.
Iron longsword
Light iron armor
Fade amulet - [NON-COMBAT] A small pendant carved in the likeness of a nameless ancient god from the Fade. It has the appearance of an obese, monstrous human-like being with a single cyclopean eye and a fin of real, leathery flesh juts from its back. If Constantine kisses the statue, he can return to the Fade or call upon an emissary from the Fade to commiserate with him.
FAMILIARS: Occasionally a lesser demon may accompany Constantine back from the Fade. They rarely manifest for more than a day or so and are unable to interact with the physical realm, other than to talk with Constantine or another Fadewalker.
