View Full Version : Azariel Thrandior

Dealer of Death

For those interested: Azariel is a criminal extraordinaire who has finally been imprisoned many years from now in Althanas' future and made to pay for his sins. I will be writing the vast majority (perhaps all) of his threads in first person, as if he were telling the story to one of his jailors. At the age of 127, he is extremely powerful and has many exotic weapons and artifacts (now locked away, of course). However, rather than list a great deal of locked abilities, I plan to simply have him tell his stories in relatively chronological order, and list here only the abilities/equipment that he has in the current time period of his stories so that he may adhere to the guidelines for how much power a certain level character can have. In this way, the stories of his past can be written as taking place in Althanas' present, however I think I may use some liquid time trickery so that every level he ages 5-6 years. Thought about doing a profile in first person, but decided it'd just be cumbersome.
Name: Azariel Thrandior
Age: 127
Approximate Age in Present Althanas Timeline: 20
Race: High Elf
Hair Color: Shimmering Silver
Eye Color: Blistering Blue
Height: 6'9"
Weight: 224 lbs
Occupation: Dealer of Death

Apperance: The tall elf has long, straight silverly white hair that reaches nearly half a foot past his broad shoulders. As elves do not age physically once they finish puberty, he looks nearly the exact same as he did in his youth, besides perhaps a crueler edge to his smile and an added malice in his eyes. Those eyes are a striking bright blue and he has a very defined jawline. High cheekbones and an angular, pale face give off an aura of nobility and beauty. Though very strong, he is thin like the rest of his kind which leads to him looking deceptively weak in most clothing. His ears are long and pointed, and his lips thin and barely more colored than his skin.

Description: Azariel is aware that he is not a good person. He has made no attempt at such a pursuit for over a century, and thinks that altruism is a peculiar form of mental illness. Instead of confronting their utter lack of import or ability, Azariel believes humanoids prefer to focus on how they are kind or generous to justify their existence. Though he does not think most people are aware of what they are doing, he considers any act of benevolence to be a form of self flattery. He considers himself to be far more intelligent than almost anyone he has ever met, and his arrogance is not unmerited.

Inflicting pain, suffering, and death are recurring themes in Azariel's life. He enjoys them not due to a truly sadistic nature, but rather the pleasure derived from exerting power over another person. It is, perhaps, the same pleasurable feeling other people get from helping each other. Instead of measuring his self worth on how he has aided others in completing great deeds, he finds satisfaction from completing such deeds by himself, for himself, and his ability to quite literally decide the fate of almost any person he meets. This lust for power has led him to be a rather vain person, and he is not shy about telling others of the horrors he has caused.

Despite his view of the world, Azariel is not wholly without a sense of morality or justice. He will reward those who perform tasks for him, although he often considers not taking their life to be a reward by itself. If it suits his purposes or desire, he can be polite and at times even jovial. His control of his facial expressions, demeanor, and general presence is uncanny to any who manage to notice. While he is perhaps most naturally sporting a menacing glare, he can switch between an inviting smile and a bone-chilling leer nearly instantly.

Skills:

Bladed Weaponry Expertise: Azariel has trained with nearly every kind of bladed weapon imaginable, likely during the time he is thought to have been part of the Tel Taurim. If it's sharp, he can find a way to kill you with it. He is generally about 1.5 times as skilled with bladed weaponry as the average user.

Eidetic Memory: Azariel can recall the events of his life with almost complete precision.

Situational Awareness: Azariel's energy magic has lead to him having a heightened sense of his surroundings. He notices aural or visual disturbances more easily than most, making it more difficult to sneak up on him and allowing him to move rather quietly even without the use of his magic.

Abilities:

Energy Magic:
-Light: Azariel can control any kind of light to various degrees, but cannot create it. He can dim a small (10 feet by 10 feet) room by a tiny but noticeable amount, or bend the light to make one part lighter than the rest. Smaller regions can be controlled to a greater degree, allowing him to disappear into shadows more easily than normal, or focus the light to blind someone temporarily (against player characters, if there is sufficient light he can blind a player once every ten posts for up to one post after cast).

-Sound: Azariel can control any kind of sound to various degrees, but cannot create it. He can amplify a noise as loud as a typical human voice to be twice as loud or deaden it to be twice as soft, but his power lessens the louder or softer the sound is. Anything quieter than a whisper or louder than a shout he cannot affect, and he cannot make any noise surpass either of those levels.

-Temperature: Azariel can control the temperature of anything except other players (without their consent) to various degrees, but cannot create energy. Currently he can shift the temperature of an item with a mass of 5 kg (11 lbs, about a small cannon ball) by up to 10 degrees celsius (18 degrees fahrenheit). The mass of the object increase or decreases the effect of his magic; he is unable to affect anything over 15 kg (33 lbs) and not able to affect even the smallest object by more than 15 degrees celsius (27 degrees fahrenheit). He can focus his magic to affect only a small region of a larger object. This magic requires either drawing heat from or supplying heat to the environment around the object, or another nearby object.

Equipment:

Modified Carving Knife: A thick dagger based off a design used to carve meat, this brutal weapon has a foot long dark gray iron blade and a six inch hilt. The handle is made from bleached bone and has a sharpened half moon iron pommel, and a two inch crossguard. The dagger is slightly curved with small serrations along half of the bottom blade. The dagger is either worn in its sheathe on his hip, or concealed in his robes.

Assassin's Robes: Hooded silk robes made to look like common street garb, but tailored so that they does not hinder the wearer's movement. Their slightly baggy construction allows almost any armor besides perhaps heavy plate to be worn concealed. Offer no defense in combat, but has many hidden pockets for storage. Azariel owns robes in pitch black with red embroidery of different shades, forest green with golden inlay, burning red with yellow starbursts adorning the shoulders, and midnight indigo with silver embroidery.

Clothing: Under his robes Azariel typically wears dark colored linen breeches, and simple cloth shoes with leather soles that permit almost silent movement by a skilled wearer. He usually wears either a thin linen or silk undershirt or goes shirtless.

History: Little is known for sure of Azariel's life. Tales of his power and cruelty abound in nearly every nation in Althanas, and deciding which were inspired by real deeds is a nearly impossible task. Hyperbole and imposters complicate matters to no end, and as such Azariel's Coronian captors are still at a loss as to how to progress with his sentencing and punishment. Virtually the only evidence for Azariel's crimes are witness testimony which is frequently erroneous. And so the terrifying man bides his time, imprisoned in a cell made specifically for him. Dehlar and titanium prohibit seemingly any chance at escape through means either magical or physical. It is thought that the high elf grew up in Tor Elythis, and that at some point in his adolesence or early adulthood he served in the Tel Taurir and later worked for the Skyknights, but even this is not certain. Until such a time as Azariel reveals details of his younger years, his history will likely never be accurately documented.

Pretty cool concept.

The only thing to be wary of is Situational Awareness. I believe that it is going to be used to show how attentive he is, which is fine. Don't go too crazy in making him able to see or hear things outside the normal range of human ability.

Also, due to the relatively minor effect of Sound and Temperature I'm happy to approve these without a limit on how often they can be used. Just FYI, if you increase their effect a lot in the next update you might need to apply a limit on how often he can use them.

Other than that nice job!

Approved.
