History: Mild-mannered, but politically passionate Carl Marks worked for years in low-level publishing jobs all over Knife's Edge, harboring a deep discontentment not only for his own subhuman living and working conditions, but that of every Salvaran worker. With no power to change the social structure, or any position from which to speak his grievances, however, he toiled day after day within the very machine he hoped one day would come crashing down.
During the recent Civil War, Carl was on an assignment for the State news agency to retrieve casualty reports from a recently captured aeromancy tower. The tower, however, came under assault by a resurgent unit of Church storm mages. Lightning struck the spire during the ensuing battle, and coursed through the spell-laden lattice of the structure, instantly electrocuting both armies within. The only survivor was a terrified Carl Marks, saved by his cowardice and hiding amongst the studded armor that redirected the energies around him. He fled the scene, disguising himself with a leather jacket and iron helm stolen from the armory.
From that day on, his life had changed, and he could feel the iron will of the working class flowing through him, electrifying his passion. He quit his job, took out crippling loans, and started printing his own paper, filled with his own truth, railing against the Church and the King alike. By night he would strike out in his stolen armor as Captain Communism, tearing down the establishment with his Red Lightning.

Carl has learned to fight well enough to defend himself from the average city ruffian, but once he has donned the flak jacket and become Captain Communism, his capabilities in unarmed combat become that of a highly skilled and experienced practitioner.
Investigative Journalism
Carl writes, prints, and distributes his own weekly newspaper. To that end, he has amassed the skills and contacts of an investigative journalist, and has the resources at his disposal of a small-time publisher.

Comrade Punch
Captain Communism, the Socialist Crusader, can imbue a single punch with the will of the underserved, manifest as the Red Lightning. This power is released in a burst of crimson electricity that arcs along his knuckles, capable of moderate burns and stunning an opponent temporarily.
Little Red Rook
Carl can use the power of Captain Communism to arc Red Lightning into an opponent he is grappling, eliciting severe pain and potentially scrambling their spellcasting capabilities temporarily.
Peoples' Republic
When Carl dons the jacket of Captain Communism, the collective will of the exploited proletariat flows into him, increasing his endurance to 1.5x average.
Weaknesses:
Opiate of the Masses
Just as religion is the opiate of the masses, magic derived from intense faith dampens the powers of Captain Communism. For a single post after first being struck by holy magic in a fight, his ability to channel the Red Lightning is removed. Each subsequent holy attack, however, only dampens the electromagnetic field that courses through Carl, reducing the efficacy of the Red Lightning by half. He still maintains any other powers of Captain Communism, including Peoples' Republic.

This jacket, while having no innate properties of its own, allows Carl to access all of his latent powers as Captain Communism, turning his ideals into action to fight for the proletariat.
Fists of the Sans-Culotte
Carl got a little carried away with his idealism when he commissioned these iron-studded leather gloves, hence the engraving reading "sans-culotte."
Iron Helmet
Carl wears this crimson-enameled iron helmet, designed specifically to cast most of his face into shadow.
