Name: Othros
Race: Manifested Entity
Age: Unknown
Height: 6'4"
Weight: ~200 lbs.
Occupation: Spirit in Exile/Fallen Angel

Appearance: Cloaked in both fabric and shadows, Othros is not seen without his normal attire. Shackles on his wrists are linked to chains that drag across the ground behind him as he walks. Both his eyes glow an eerie orange, and his voice rattles barely above a whisper. His essence blows beneath his robes like murky black mist.

Personality: When he does speak, others have to stop to listen. He is imposing in any room, though he does not attempt to attract attention to himself. Othros does not frequent crowded places, and he is not personable. His actions are purposed, and when he is driven to complete his tasks. It is his wish to be free of his imprisonment above all else.

History: Once, Othros was a guardian angel. Tasked with protecting a dying man and keeping him comfortable until he died. The man pleaded with Othros to end his suffering, and the angel's heart broke.

He took the man's life, which he saw as a kindness. The gods were not pleased with his decision. In their anger, they cast him to earth and bound him in shackles that held him from flight. Eventually his wings rotted and his being was warped and tainted by the evils of humanity and sin.

While his tears never ceased for the wrongs, Othros was hardened to the pains of humanity. The gods tasked him with helping souls reach the other side, a task seen as perfect for him. Humbled and angered by his newfound duties, Othros became the manifestation of Death.

He walks Althanas eternally, watching and waiting.

Skills:

Understanding of most languages (verbal, not written)
Perception (can see spirits)
Weapon: Broadsword

Abilities:

Judgment: Othros has been charged with shepherding souls from this world to the next. When he is present at the time of death, or he meets a soul that lingers, he can pass judgment on them and send them to their afterlife. When he does this, he adds a fragment of that soul to his essence. Soul essence is necessary to perform rites and rituals that have been granted to Othros.

Condemn: Focusing the power of his essence, Othros can condemn a living soul. At his current strength, Othros can uncertainty and fear in the victim. The affect has been described as the body feeling filled with the chill of death.

Catharsis: Othros can create a state of euphoria in a victim that eases the transition into death. While this is meant as a form of anesthesia, it can be used to dull the mind and slow the body. The slowness is equivalent to the effects of a narcotic.

(Locked) Bereavement: Othros can sap life from a living victim to fuel his strength. This causes cold to spread through the body of the afflicted, and faintness in the head. He can not sap them dry, however, and is only allowed to drain a single year of life from any one victim.

Weaknesses: "To the Earth until the end, or your duties fulfilled." Cast out by the gods, Othros is condemned to never leave the ground. He must travel by foot. He can move under water should the need arise, but must cross the ocean floor. (He does not require air.)

"Cursed to feel as they do." Othros sees all of his victim's sins and feels their pain and remorse, though he does not empathize. This is cause for extreme annoyance, and is a form of penance imposed by his brother angels.

"Taste of their sin." Walking among humans, Othros is sickened by their debased desires. His wings rotted and fell away, and he was never again to soar in the heavens.

"Knowledge of Good and Evil." Whereas most angels are servants first, Othros knows good and evil as humanity does, cursing him to understand their suffering.

"The world does not weep for you." Those who remember Othros have no love for him. His purpose is singular and hated by most men.

Items: His chains, forged of Prevalida. They are wreathed in a spell that renders them unbreakable. They are unsuited for use as weapons, and they make his range of motion limited. They also limit the amount of power he is capable of using, as they have been used to seal the majority of his former strength. Robes of black linen. An iron Broadsword.

With Condemn and Catharsis, how often can he use these abilities? Also, how does he effect the target, is it like casting a spell on them?

Since they require soul fragments, Catharsis and Condemn can only be used when Othros has them available to expend. I'll be keeping visible track of the fragments in each thread, starting out with only one available at the beginning of my first thread. I will also keep a running inventory on my signature.

They work like spells, with the stipulation that Othros must be in close quarters with the intended target. (Not necessarily touch.) The difference is that there is no incantation, and he needs no medium to channel through.

That's an interesting way to do things. It's possible that he won't have any souls when he entered a battle. Did you want to make it so that it is assumed in battles he has at five souls, while in quests you keep a total as you're suggesting?

That sounds like a good method, actually. Five in battle, regardless of outside total. Accumulated total for use in quests.

Sounds good then, do you want to edit that into the Judgement ability before I close this thread? (Five can be updated as you progress, so you can use more abilities as you progress).

Anima, I'm going to approve you INCLUDING the agreed upon limitations by you and Hysteria regarding "Judgment" even though you haven't edited them in yet.

Judges, please be aware.
