Puh...puh...puh poison, you say?

Lye's bazaar thread (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?26857-To-Light-a-Fire-in-Your-Veins) has brought to light the fact that Althanas doesn't have a very good system regarding poison. Newly crowned moderator Erikar and I hope to change that. The problem is, we're not very creative. So we're here to ask you for help.

What are some of the poisons you've used on Althanas? If you submit a poison, we'll add it to the Bazaar FAQ! When you submit, be sure to let us know the following: What are they made from? How easily are the items to obtain? What are their effects? How long does it take to notice them? Here's a template:

Thanks for your assistance, folks. You can just reply here and we'll get them added.

My character Muir uses a handful from this resource (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?18792-Rough-Guide-to-Fallien-1st-Ed&p=144363#post144363), and I think others have as well.

Name:
Mortiga Kosmaro Toxin

Ingredients:
0.5 oz Dur'Taigen Root - Red Forest (Key ingredient. Difficult to obtain as it must be harvested while the Dur'Taigen are in tree form.)
1 oz Ruilserk Vine - Red Forest (If you survive the red forest, this should be easy to obtain.)
0.6 oz Ita'istar Scorpion Venom - The Black Desert (If you can find them, the venom is easy to obtain postmortem.)

Effects:
This poison will cause blurred vision in about one minute. In two minutes, the victim will begin to see double or hallucinate. After about 5 minutes, the disorienting vision will spread to the ears, causing echoes or false voices. Ten minutes, the poison will begin to attack the major organs, causing fatigue, labored breathing, joint pain, fever, headache, and extreme thirst. At this point, the brain will be affected and the hallucinations may take the form of traumatizing past memories or strange nightmares. Around the half hour mark, the target is rendered inoperable and will be bed ridden. The poison will then continue to attack the organs until reaching systemic failure at around 48 hours.

The poison will work faster to disable a foe the more they exert themselves. If the foe has a higher endurance (extra endurance must be a skill) or slows their heart rate, they will be able to stave off the effects for longer.

The poison is blood oriented. If flow is cut off to the afflicted area, the effects can be held off for longer at the expense of suffocating the tissue. It can be cured through a basic herbal antidote. The antidote is not exceptionally common, but can be obtained from a decent alchemist or herbalist. The antidote itself must be ingested and contains a primary ingredient that causes gastrointestinal discomfort, often diarrhea, with frequent urination. If treated, the effects will lift completely from the victim over a period of a week. Within 5 minutes, the poison's progression will stop and begin to improve.

The poison is able to be cured through magic. Ai'Brone will dispel it with ease, a common street mage may have to attempt a few times before succeeding. A transfer catalyst will be needed to dispel the poison into in both cases. This catalyst can be animate or inanimate. Inanimate objects (including plant life) used in the spell will not be poisonous afterward, but will take on a deep, dark purple hue. Animate objects will be afflicted with the poison and the current state of the victim. It is best to use street vermin for this purpose. Consuming poisoned flesh will eventually diffuse into the blood via digestion and result in the same effects. Symptoms are usually take 24 hours to manifest in this case - 12 hours if drank via animal soup stock or tainted fluid.

Since it is blood oriented, the undead, constructs, and plant life are not afflicted.

Herbal antidotes must be derived from Dur'Taigen root.

Time:
Direct Cut - 1 minute for beginning symptoms. 30 minutes to disable. 48 hours to kill.
Ingestion (fluid) - 12 hours for first symptoms, then same as above.
Ingestion (food) - 24 hours for first symptoms, then same as above.

Name:
Blightroot Opiate (Forsaken Fog)

Ingredients:
0.5 oz Coarse Ground Blightroot - Raiaera (Key ingredient. Harvested from Liviol Roots corrupted by blighted land or necromantic energies.)
1 oz Tobacco, or Kindling - (Anything can substitute here to help create a smoke and heat the Blightroot.)
0.1 oz Aromatic incense - Optional (Use something with a strong scent to mask the pungent aroma of Blightroot.)

Effects:
This poison is delivered as an aerosol, typically through smoke or vapor. It can be masked by tobacco or aromatic ingredients. When inhaled, the Blightroot Opiate immediately starts to effect the mind. Aggression is the first symptom of the drug, causing affected individuals to lose their ability to discern friend from foe. The common inhibition to avoid violence in fear of consequence is abolished. These thoughts of violence eventually overtake all rationalization.

Afterwards, the toxin begins to devolve fine motor skills, causing the victim to abandon knowledge of advanced combat techniques and rely on more innate skills. For those who have innate combat knowledge, this may carry over during this symptom (ie, magic heavy users slinging spells wildly or genetic traits used at tandem). Weapon usage is abandoned in favor of more savage attacks. Around this time, the nerve center for pain is disabled. In turn, this tends to increase strength to the point the victim's body will begin to tear itself apart to perform incredible feats.

After about an hour of viscous aggression, the self preservation center of the brain degrades. This may result in outright suicide, or last ditch assaults with no regard of consequence. Those with magical affinity have known to literally explode/implode with devastating Tap energies. The drug apexes here until the victim is cured or dies.

If the victim survives 48 straight hours, including suicidal thoughts, reckless aggression, lack of water, and lack of food during the madness, the drug will wear off on its own.

The undead are not affected as they commonly use the poison in battle to give them a distinct upper hand. Constructs are somewhat affected due to the corrupting nature of the weaponized liviol smoke. Effects on constructs depends on their sentience, method of animation, or connection to their operator.

Other symptoms include:
Over Salivation
Dilated Pupils
Devolved Speech/Inability to Communicate
Vomiting
Excessive Screaming and Yelling

Time:
A single lungful - 5 seconds before experiencing increased aggression. Full aggression and lack of pain at 10 minutes. Self Preservation destroyed at 1 hour.
Approximately 3 lungful - Full aggression & lack of pain at 3 minutes. Self Preservation destroyed at 1 hour.
Excessive exposure - Full aggression & lack of pain in under 1 minute. Self Preservation destroyed at 1 hour.

Antidote:

Any mage capable of a purification ritual.
An injection derived from 10cc liviol sap refined alchemically to an ingredient called Life Amber, diluted with 30cc of a saline solution. Must be injected either directly into the chest (heart or lungs) or base of the skull into the spinal column.
An near lethal dose of a sedative is capable of calming aggression and placing victims into a false coma to await treatment.

Additional Usages:

Blightroot, if used in very small amounts, can be used as a battle stimulant. For those that have issues fighting without restraint or cannot clear their mind for battle, they can inhale a mild dosage (about 5% the concentration above) and take advantage of increased aggression without losing the ability to discern friend and foe. It clears the mind of distractions (loved ones in danger, PTSD, etc) in order to perform as a machine of war. These effects can last for 15 minutes at maximum. Suggested dosage is one draw (lungful) a day. Additional dosages within that timeframe puts the user in danger of the lethal effects.

Long term usage will degrade mental function, decay the lungs, and weaken the body. This drug is frowned upon by most societies.

Name:
Shin'ai Koasu'i

Ingredients:
Muira Puama Bark - Fallien (The bark of an uncommon tree that grows near the Suravani's Oasis and on the outskirts of the Spice Fields.)

or

Iroppoi Tsuri Bark - Akashima (A similar species to the Muira Puama, the Iroppoi Tsuri, is located in the Akashiman Kingdom. This tree is far less common and is typically held in high regard to the Akashiman families which grow one on their land.)

Preparation:

Dried and burnt raw or as part of an incense.

or

Cold pressed into an oil used raw or in perfumes. 100g (.22lbs) of bark will produce 1 dram (3.7ml or 1/16 ounce) of oil.

Effects:

It is administered in one of two ways: dried and burnt as incense, or cold pressed into an oil and used in perfumes. As an incense, the Fallien variant puts off a spicy aroma similar to combination of cloves, nutmeg, and cinnamon. The Askashiman variant, is more floral, typically putting off an aroma similar to a combination of lavender and cherry blossom. As an oil, the mixture can be directly applied to the skin but only takes affect through a combination of lungs and scent. The oil method can be applied raw with similar scents, or mixed with other essences to produce a wide variety of musks and perfumes.

The effects are not as much a poison as it is a strong, almost overwhelming aphrodisiac. The "poison" takes effect over the duration of exposure. Usually, within the first 15-30 seconds or so the beginning symptoms will be felt. These include arousal, increased senses of touch, and taste. Over time, the drug will increase blood flow to the reproductive organs and stimulate the desire to satiate a hungering lust. Feelings of attraction, desire, and pleasure put the user in a state of euphoria. Perception of time becomes askew, either giving a sense of slowed time, or the excitement of rapid time. All sensory input is increased beyond the norm with additional emphasis on the stimulation to pleasure center of the brain.

These effects will wear off over a couple hours away from exposure or be greatly diminished post climax. Though after a brief down time, the euphoria will again take hold until removed from its effects.

It is possible to develop a tolerance to this drug such as those working in suggestive businesses. Tolerance is typically build over long, continuous exposure over a period of months.

Typically used by harems, brothels, and female assassins, the drug is held in high regard in upstanding societies and medicine. It is often used for couples seeking excitement in a dying relationship or those struggling to conceive children. It has been shown that the drug increases the likelihood of pregnancies and conception rate of twins. Though, considering the potency of the drug, it is not commonly prescribed or used outside the black markets.

Only affects normal organic creatures. Demons and Angelics are immune to its effects.

Other symptoms include:

Increased heart rate
Increased breathing
Flush Skin
Hypersensitivity
Improved fertility rates
Decreased inhibitions
Slight "truth-serum" effect

Time:

Initial symptoms of arousal occur within the first 15-30 seconds of exposure, increasing in euphoria and pleasure until climax or removed from area of effect.

Antidote:

Time. Approximately 1-2 hours removed from the area.

Additional Usages:

If ground and used in a paste or lotion, the product can be adhered to sensitive areas to treat ED, premature/lack of climax, and general stimulant for both genders. It is safe for direct contact with no risk of infection or complications. Only a small number are allergic to its use which will cause minor burning and irritation.

Name:
Demon Tongue (Abbreviated DT)

Ingredients:

Stems, thorns, or flowers from the Demon Tongue weed which grows in the Tular Plains. It is a thorny plant only about 30 - 33cm at full length. Its blossoms are similar to snapdragons and come in deep purples and red shades. Though it is not exceptionally common, it is easy to obtain at the expense of braving the area. Some wild fauna graze on this weed and have become "addicted" to its effects. Obtaining it may require dispatching of said beasts/creatures.

Preparation:

Dried and smoked. Average dose = 1g rolled cigarette
or
Eaten raw. Average dose = 5g raw leaves
or
Cold pressed and refined into a serum. 1 dose = 10cc (10ml)

Effects:

If smoked, Demon Tongue is an inhibitor. It will relax the body, mind, and generally calm the user. It is used to treat anxiety, PTSD, panic attacks, aggression, and ADHD. It is also used to help relax the terminally ill. It commonly causes euphoria and improves mood. It will slightly diminish reaction times and higher functioning thought processes.

Eaten raw, it will induce similar effects as if smoked. Additionally, if digested, the weed will satiate hunger in place of a meal. In this regard, it is used to treat obesity and by certain individuals seeking to lose weight. If overused, it can cause malnutrition leading to fatigue, headache, muscle ache, and in extreme cases, organ failure.

As a refined serum, the Demon Tongue truly shines. 10cc of pure extract is enough to slide an adult male into a temporary coma. It is a strong pain killer and paralytic. In medicinal wards and infirmaries, it is used to sedate patients for amputation or surgery. It is such a strong anesthetic that a 20cc dosage would outright kill an average man, reducing heart rate and brain function to zero. In this regard, it is a popular poison used by assassins.

The refined serum is highly regulated by local authorities. It is also difficult to find in the Black Market as providers typically have contracts with end users. It takes specific Alchemical equipment and knowledge to refine the impurities from the weed. Failure to do so either negates the strong traits of the drug, and/or creates a localized necrosis at the site of the injection.

Time:

Via Smoke: 15 seconds - 1 minute to experience effects. Effects last for approximately 2 hours. Exercise and movement can process the toxin quicker and reduce the effects

Via Ingestion: 10 minutes to experience effects. Effects last for approximately 6 hours. Excessive fluid intake can decrease the effects.

Via Injection: less than 5 seconds to take effect or until the serum reaches the heart via blood. One dosage of 10cc will put a character into a coma for an hour. And additional 10cc or a constant drip can be used to continue sedation after the initial hour. Extreme caution is to be used to maintain life. An overdose is effective in the same amount of time.

Antidote:

A direct injection of adrenaline is the quickest way to eliminate the effects. This is typically delivered directly to the heart or vein.

A counter-serum derived from the Lightfeather Blossom found in the Concordian Forest can also be used to gradually neutralize the effects. Typically used in medicine to pull a patient out after surgery.

Name:
Mahku'akalla Tros'kulys (The Dying Thirst)

Ingredients:

Tros'kulys Lapas - Fallien (Literal translation is "Thirst Leaves". It is a plant that grows above underground water reservoirs deep in the desert. It grows only 12cm tall and has broad, light green leaves with serrated edges. Their roots reach deep into the reservoirs.)

Preparation:

Prepared as a tea, essence, or powder diluted in water or drink.

10g of raw leaves produce 1ml of essence.

10ml of essence produces 1g of powder.

Effects:

This plant is known to dehydrate the body, causing incredible thirst. It literally blocks cells from osmosis of fluid while drawing moisture from the blood, organs, and soft tissues. On top of this primary effect, it tricks the mind, causing the victim to feel quenched while continuing to ingest fluids tainted with the poison. In small dosages, this is not fatal. Should a source of water, drink, or vessel be contaminated with it, the effects will stack. Continual consumption eventually causes hydration toxicity (Literally drowning yourself internally) or death from dehydration (blood pressure cannot be maintained, organs fail, etc).

Other Symptoms:

Aggression
Hand tremors
Irritated eyes
Cotton Mouth
Dry Lips
Loss of voice

Time:

Thirst begins immediately. Becomes maddening over time. Effects last for 2 hours or until death.

One cup of tea (approx 225ml) is enough to drive someone to crave fluid for 2 hours. One cup will not dehydrate the body to a fatal degree. Approximately 6 cups (approx 1.4L) will dehydrate the body to a fatal point. This takes full effect within 5 minutes after the last glass. Thirst would be maddening.

3 drops (3ml) of essence is enough to drive thirst for 2 hours. In combination with alcohol or another poisoned fluid, this quickly becomes fatal considering the drug's affect on the mind causing the victim to crave more of the tainted fluid. 12 drops (12ml) will create a fatal drink, dehydrating the body no matter the fluid intake within 2 minutes.

1g of powder is enough to drive thirst for 2 hours. When added to foods, it can be a deadly combination and easily overdosed. It adds a flavor similar to white pepper. Pair with a poisoned beverage or lack of beverage for best results. Perfect for eliminating hard to kill targets locked in prisons. 4g of power will prove a lethal dose.

Antidote:

The most effective antidote is also what can kill: water. Clean water drank at moderation over the time of effect will allow the body to process the toxin and allow hydration when the effects wear off.

Another antidote is a charcoal solution to absorb the toxin. This will not eliminate the thirst and is usually paired with restraints while the victim "detoxes". Individuals with exceptional willpower over the thirst may not need to be restrained.
