History: Much of Ruby Winchester died in Berevar. She burnt her soul to defend her husband’s honour, and free him from his history as an Old God of the frozen wastes. With the Phoenix in her singed, and her body born anew, the now white haired, no longer Crimson Mistress has fallen short of enthusiasm for things she once enjoyed.

After working with her siblings to save the Ixian Knights from one final, embittered defeat, Ruby finds herself back in Scara Brae. With her household in tatters and her husband hard at work, the esteemed Mrs Winchester has set herself on a task fitting for her great sense of directionless. She aims to improve her sword arm. She hopes to grow strong enough to redeem her hollow soul from its defeat.

She aims to forget the past. Letting your memories fade is never easy. Some of them want to live on, forever and ever, amen. Some of them want to live on so much they threaten to consume you whole. One such memory is that of the restless fugitive…

Though Jensen Ambrose and Erissa Caedron have done much to sate the bitter legacy of the Forgotten Ones, in recent months, whispers have abounded on the island. People say that a new troupe is on the rise. They say that a young boy, with feathery arms and a plucky wit leads them. Ruby is worried that this boy might just be Pettigrew, the one secret she will die to protect.

Except for trying to steal from her dutiful, ever-loving, and caring husband…being set adrift in life, apparently, makes you clamour for redemption in strange ways. There is much to do before the Crimson Mistress can stand with her head held high at court again. There is much to do to find meaning after retirement. There is much to do before she can feel alive again. There is much to see. There is much to hear. There is much to amend. Moreover, everywhere, people who still need the troupe’s help and guidance.

Especially with Duffy’s death. For centuries, Duffy and Ruby have been as one, leading man, leading woman. They inspired generations of thespians and orphans alike, propping up the backbone of Scara Brae in its darkest times. However, Chronicle rises, and the providence of the Winchester house grows in Salvar and Corone, the recent turn of events has left a hole in the Phoenix Matriarch’s heart. Her own death, leading to a return to her original form, has rekindled the fire she fought so long and hard to quell.

Angered beyond reproach, her wrath turns now to destroying Oblivion, free at last, and running rampant across her home. Sei Orlouge has trained to tame her, bind her to the leadership of the Ixian Knights. Arden and Lillith have tried to appease her, offering her their servitude in search of vengeance. Above all others, Leopold has trained to bring her peace, offering to buy her the world if only she would lay down her sword. No such luck. Ruby Winchester has been a woman scorned too long, and she will not rest until the name of the Tantalum troupe – of Duffy Brandybuck, are burnt into every surface of Scara Brae.

Personality: Ruby’s demeanour has become complacent, as if life was a breeze. Where others are quick to temper, the Lady satisfies herself with modest assumptions, well placed words, and an empathic grace. She has a melancholic personality, having resigned herself to the world’s anarchy years ago. She is happy as much in joy as disaster. Death does that to a woman.

Her authoritarian façade only slips around the most deserving of people. Duffy and Leopold have seen the true Mrs Winchester, because she loves to torment them that much. She is eager to give advice with humility and passion. Her matriarchal need to care for people makes her a compassionate and altruistic individual, as much as being a noble of Scara Brae allows.

Skills:

Maître De: As a matron, homemaker, and cook, Ruby is acquainted with most domestic chores and skills. She is undeterred by the demands of bringing up children, keeping a house running, and putting on lavish engagements.

Diplomat: Ruby’s grasp of courtly and street etitquite is legendary. She is an embodiment of tact and grace, able to ebb and flow into and out of the correct behaviour in any social situation.

Tailor: Ruby has learnt how to tailor almost any non-magical fabric. She can make dresses and female garments out of materials up to silk provided the time, resources, and inspiration are readily available.

Herald: She has masterful knowledge of the history, traditions, and nobility of Scara Brae. There is little Ruby does not know about the lower households of the city, either. This extends to those long destroyed, forgotten, and exiled.

Thespian: A life on the stage has allowed Ruby to develop quite a repertoire of musical and acting skills. She can dance in most folk styles, play basic instruments, and method act to a masterful level.

Swordsman: Ruby has adept skill with her sword. She can defend herself against equal opponents, and perform basic duellist thrusts, steps, and forms. She uses her sword to compliment spell song, more so than for offense.

Abilities:

The Aria: Ruby’s spell song is primarily vocal. She has mastered the art, but few ever truly control the craft. Even a flawless performance can have unexpected consequences. A song must mirror its namesake to have the desired effect.

Twilight Theme: Ruby can affect natural light. Candles snuff out, fireplaces roar, and day brightens, or night darkens. The effects are temporary and lights return to normal when the song ends.

Defensive Duet: Ruby can conjure a sphere as hard as iron. The shield protects as long as Ruby continues singing. A mage two levels higher, or a blow hitting at X4 strength or higher can dispel it.

Frigid Fandango: Ruby can alter temperature from zero to 40 degrees Celsius in a 50 ft. radius. When she stops singing, the temperature returns to its previous levels at a thermodynamic rate.

Conjuring Cantor: Ruby can conjure small objects twice per thread. Items not belonging to her fade after an hour. She cannot summon living, magical, or unknown items. Domestic items, books, and beauty products etc.

Scintillating Song: Ruby can conjure lights, fireworks, and flame. These are illusions, although they make sounds. This requires a semantic element. The lights respond to the emotions of the lyrics and the singer.

Rampant Requiem: Ruby can summon concussive blows. They are X2 strength, but can strike up to three times per attack. The greater the pain and anger, the more chaotic they become. They can hurt Ruby.

Inventory:

Delilah: A violin covered with ivy and roses. It is master crafted. Metal wire runs through string. A silver chain around her waist carries tuning forks and tools. Once each per thread, Ruby can:

Col Legno: Ruby can prolong a note long after it stops playing by striking the string with the bow’s wood. This allows a spell to carry on into swordplay for one minute.

Da Capo: Ruby can repeat up to eight bars of a song as though she were not playing, allowing her to layer a more complicated rhythm onto another. This allows her to combine, in an experimenter fashion, to spell songs.

Con Presto: By increasing tempo, aggression, and heel notes, Ruby can boost one song to new heights. This will break a string, and she exile the violin for two posts until it repairs itself.

Lucrezia: A lightweight mithril sword. A strand of unicorn hair runs through its. It conducts magic and song like dehlar. The sword has its own conscience and identity, which manifests only when wielded.

Celia: An enchanted dress made of dragon skin (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?26326-It-s-Getting-Hot-In-Here). It has a mithril underlay, offering protection equal to steel plate, and resists rain and mud, wear & tear, and 25% of natural fire. It will not burn or thread.

Wainwright: An enchanted necklace forged by Oblivion. It is indestructible. Twice per thread, Ruby can polymorph her hair, eye, and/or skin colour. It offers a permanent 25% resistance to spells that affect will or mental capacity when worn.

A redesign, and simplification of skills and abilities. Previous profile to be found here (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?25505-The-Lady-Levied-(Ruby-Level-Five)&highlight=).

Wainwright comes from one of her old profiles, when she borrowed it to Erissa (and now has it back).

Hey Cyd,

While I appreciate the simplification, "Conjuring Cantor" needs to be as detailed as it was in your level 4 update. Namely, I need to know the types of objects Ruby can summon & their materials (for fairness purposes, of course). I'm less concerned about money, though, because a moderator will approve any spoils you receive/request from a thread.

Finally, was Wainwright ever purchased or won, or should I consider it an ability?

Thanks!

Added a brief explanation: any more goes over the format line - evil! How about all items vanish after an hour instead?

Wainwright was acquired here (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?20797-Oh-Delilah-Oh-Scorn-Oh-Vengeance-(Solo)/page2&highlight=oh+delilah). It was not used again in a long time, so was simply waylain from subsequent updates.

Sorry for the delay.

Can you set a maximum number of strikes for Rampant Requiem and specify a maximum duration for Col Legno?

Thanks.
