Name: Daud Claine
Nickname/Alias: Red
Age: 29
Race: Human
Height: 5'11''
Weight: 174lbs.
Hair Color: Rust
Eye Color: Pale Blue
Occupation: Sellsword and Drifter
Right-Handed
Personality: Daud is jovial and charismatic, finding it easy with his silver tongue to persuade, influence and deceive others. Whether its a tall tale or an offer that seems too good to be true, he prefers to deal with others using subtlety and intrigue. That's not to say he isn't beyond more low brow tactics when all else fails. Daud is a man who came from the wrong side of the tracks, and even when he seems to be good natured and friendly, that is perhaps when you should be at your most wary. A man hardened by a life of crime, killing and subterfuge, he definitely has an edge to him. As if a piece of his humanity fell to the way side a long time ago. Even so, in good humor, Daud attempts to see the best in everybody, even if he is palming a blade. He bears no loyalties to a God or country, and seems only to be out for himself. However, in a weird way, even without a sense of purpose or any real ambition, Daud can see the right of things. But, the most unsettling part his companions will learn is that he truly believes it is up to him and him alone to decide what to do.
History: Daud has spent much of his life either in the slums of free cities making a name for himself as a man not to be trifled with or abroad driving his steel into the hearts of whoever the enemy of the day is. It is true that man's loyalty can be bought and the price is just how heavy and fat the bag of coins are in his fingers. Daud finds himself adrift in this life without any real drive or direction other than what pays or the moment at hand. He has found that he is an avid leader when he wants to be. People will listen to him, be they savage or civilized. And that sort of authority is an indelible quality that makes Daud invaluable provided you can afford his services.
Appearance: Daud has the physique and appearance of a man who can swing steel and drive a long knife into somebody's kidneys. He is short, hardy and has the appearance of a man who is on the edge of losing his humanity. He has his share of scars earned in battle and often dresses in whatever attire suits him. Most of the time, the attire is worn, or old or handmade. He gives the appearance and attitude of somebody who came from the slums, even when in the presence of magistrate or kings. Daud's hair is the colour of rust and his eyes are a pale, stark blue. His hair is often oiled and his hygiene is often impeccable. He carries an array of weapons and seems to be quick on his feet.
Skills:
Goon: Daud is a hired hand and a bruiser. His appearance and presence can be intimidating as somebody who is lawless and will do whatever it takes to get what he wants. Daud has a very difficult time flipping this switch when the situation calls for it, and it is obvious for anybody of any stature that Daud is anything other than honorable or trustworthy. Because of this, Daud may fit in on the fringes of society and find it less likely he will be trifled with, but while in society he is out of place and is difficult for civilized people to trust him.
Bruiser: He is heavy handed and kills to survive. There is little apparent training in his technique of swordplay or hand to hand, but Daud often attempts to use as much force as possible to maim or kill his victims. While this allows for his attacks to be particularly gruesome, there is little discipline or reservation in his wild, savage attacks. Because of this, a more trained fighter can out match Daud in a drawn out fight. He has much to learn in how to use his strength, speed and weapons in a way that will allow him to press the advantage when the need arises.
Leader: Daud can speak with authority and can get others to do things they not might not otherwise want to do themselves. The hallmark of a true leader. However, this leadership ability is not something he uses for command presence to instill respect and inspiration in those around him, but to will those to do what he asks. This makes it often easy for him to gain positions of authority over others. That is, if he ever cares to use it.
The Devil's Tongue: Daud has a gift for persuasion, trickery and deception. It is very easy for him to talk another person into something. Whether to influence or deceive, Daud is educated in experience in sizing people up, applying the right amount of pressure, and being able to speak to others in a whatever way it takes to get them to lower their guard. For this, sometimes Daud can be a bit gregarious when it calls for it, but most of those who listen to him don't seem to mind it.
Educated: Without much in the way of formal learning and with little opportunity of it given his upbringing, but Daud remains literate and voracious in his reading. He learns quickly from others mistakes, and is quick to learn to own. In fact, education seems to be the only thing he really seems to be driven about. He has the remarkable ability to approach a new skill, pick it up, and master it with ease. Without being much in the way of gifted, Daud has found this ability to learn on his feet and know a little about a lot to be able to relate and work with others of any class. However, even with being able to adapt quickly to the situation, the major gaps in his formal education are apparent to those in certain matters that Daud is not aware of, making it sometimes easy for others who know what he is up to to turn the tables and be able to use this knowledge against him.
Dirty Tricks: Daud makes up for his lack of skill and discipline in combat by fighting dirty. He will do whatever it takes to survive and knows all too well that honor will get you killed.
Thief: A life beginning in squalor and destitute in the slums, Daud learned quickly that the only way he would live is to survive. And to survive in the slums, he needed to be able to pick pockets and take from others in order to feed and clothe himself. He has learned many tools, tips and tricks in thievery through hard learned lessons that have almost cost him life or limb on many occasions. Daud is a professional thief in skill and ability.
Abilities:
Quick: Daud is quick on his feet and in a hurry to be anywhere, even if he isn't sure where it is he is going. He is able to use this to outmaneuver others. Daud is 1.5x faster than your average man.
Equipment:
Leather Armor: Full kit of leather armor that appears worn and an amalgamation of pieces that seem to have been acquired from different sets.
Dagger: A long knife made of iron whose handle is banded in black, oiled leather. It is a prize Daud picked up from a dying man who happened to be one of his clients. Unfortunately for that individual, his enemies paid Daud more to assure his loyalty in such matters. He often keeps this blade hidden on some part of his body.
Short sword: Made of iron. The blade is often oiled and its edge is kept sharp. The hilt is banded in boiled, brown leather and the sword is kept in a sheath on his hip.
Shield: A shield made of thick oak whose paint and tribal markings are worn or made indecipherable from its wear and use. It looks to be have belonged to some sort of savage or barbarian from Salvar until Daud killed him for it. It is big enough to protect much of Daud's body when used, but is poorly made and very heavy.
Thieves' tools: An assortment of lockpicks and other devices necessary to open locks and steal things. This kit is hidden on Daud's person.
