View Full Version : (Trading Company Transaction) A Weapon to Remember Me By

Eh, I decided to attempt to use first person for this… Who knows, it might be a writing knack that could boost my judgment scores for technique. This is a transaction I’m doing through the Trading Company, I sure hope I posted this in the right place… If not, don’t yell at me but simply move the thread to where it’s supposed to be?? Please?

I walked into the Trading Company Building. I heard that while they still had limited resources, it would cost less to buy weapons and other nicks and gadgets here. I indeed was running a little lower on money than before, so making this trip would hopefully be worth it. I needed to level myself up, a war was coming on and I needed to be as prepared as possible. The Trading Company was a small organization bent on the economics that had agreed to open up trade with both sides of the war. I didn't know if it was safe for me to come over here due to my important position in Eiskalt’s government, but I was willing to take the chance… Half of it was just for the fun of it though! Due to the nagging of my close friend Julius, I was forced to heavily hood and cloak myself to hide my own identity. Julius even forced me to wear a veil. Man, this thing was uncomfortable; and I was so hot I was sweating!

I had to shrug this off though as I walked up to the counter, of the Trading Company’s building. I stepped up to the counter, a tad bit nervous, what do I do here? Well, I know what I need here, just how do I describe it? Because- Because this would be no ordinary weapon, no, it would be a weapon to remember me by.

I knew that both my parents had been skilled and praised missile style fighters. My mother, and elf, had been an expert with the bow and arrow and was an incredible sharp-shooter. My father didn't use missile weapons, but he had just about every off-distance Icebreaker power down when he was even younger than I am! (I am tis seventeen.) I wanted so badly to live up to their own skills. I was very skilled in melee battle already, and while I wasn't at all the best at aiming and firing I do know that practice makes perfect. And while I wanted to become a good missile fighter like my parents before me, I would not use the regular bow and arrow. Nope! I was planning on using something unique to (once again) remember me by… If I had enough money that was.

I smiled (even though under the veil it was very hard to see it) and I spoke up, “Hello, I would like to make a weaponry purchase from the Trading Company, please?”

What I’m looking for is something similar to a crossbow – except much smaller. It would be the length and size of a pistol and would be strapped to Ashla’s lower arm. It would have a trigger that worked to where if Ashla pulled it, a very large needle (slightly smaller than the size of an arrow, it would obviously fit inside the weapon) would shoot out. I’m okay with everything being iron. Also, I would like the weapon to be able to be unstrapped from her wrist and to be able to be attached to a hilt so she can use it like a gun. I don’t care if the hilt is iron or wood or whatnot, whatever is cheaper.
So here’s a recap of what I want. The missile weapon explained above. Also an attachable hilt and something to strap the weapon to her arm (and it not come loose xD)

"Certainly, madam," replied the clerk. "We do aspire to cater to all needs, after all."

The clerk had watched Ashla politely since she entered through the large double doors, and fixed her with a welcoming smile as she approached the counter. She had short, jet-black hair, a round face, large brown eyes and a badge pinned to her blouse which read 'Mara'. Though she at first appeared to have nothing but smiles for Ashla, there was a more subtle hint of anxiety there, present in the way she kept glancing from the suspiciously cloaked figure before her, to a dour and burly-looking fellow skulking by the entrance.

Mara quickly reviewed the schematics that Ashla had provided, and she seemed to relax, as her sense of professionalism came to the fore. After a little while, she took out a pen, dipped the nib in her inkwell, and began to jot down notes on a small slip of paper before her.

"Interesting design, certainly. I believe we have a few people who would be suitable for fulfilling this order... however, would you be interested in optimising the design here, or are you happy to keep it just as it is? And how much ammunition do you require?"

OOC: First of all, thank you for your custom! Also, we will probably need a proper pricing quote from Bazaar staff, so this forum might be alright for it.

I believe we can feasibly create something with reasonable stopping power out of iron, though you certainly have other options. I would estimate a basic iron light crossbow such as this to be 75 gold, or 113 if of masterwork quality. A steel bow would also be 113 gold, or 169 gold if masterwork. These appear well within your finances, even if you wished for a further basic enchantment modifier. These are estimates of the basic Bazaar price, too, so it may even work out cheaper than what I have just listed.

My bright, blue eyes shone a delightful light at the warm offer. I liked this place already! I once again, smiled, despite the fact that it would be hard to see it with the veil. "I am looking towards lowering the pricing..." I lifted my hand to my chin, thinking. Masterwork sounded really cool. If I were to have a masterwork bow, it may turn out to perhaps have better functioning skills. I bit my lip as I looked up to the clerk, "How much would masterwork cost? ..." I questioned, "... And does master working apply better conditions?" Dumb question, there!

I quickly jumped to ammunition, "Uh- Um... Twelve needles would be great, please?" Despite my hood and cape, some of my lengthy hair fell over one of my eyes. I blinked, pushing myself not to push it back. Another grin, slightly nervous this time, was what I shot towards to clerk.

Your welcome! And you guys have steel? I thought you only had iron for metals... Well, a masterwork steel one would be great! The giant needles/ small arrows have the same appliance. Thank you! :)

Mara smiled again, her own nervousness entirely laid to rest by the other girl's endearing sense of amiability. She nodded at the bouncer by the door, and he too eased off, acknowledging Mara's signal that all was well, and that the cloaked and hooded figure was here on legitimate business.

"I'm no expert myself, but I believe the extra expense may be worth it. For example, I understand that there are ways to imbue steel with a variety of different properties - compression and tensile strength, elasticity, fracture resistance, and so on. I imagine a professional metalworker could replicate, in steel, the advanced properties of traditional compound wooden bows... which would make it comparable with simpler weapons made from higher tier materials."

The clerk began to scribble down a list of numbers. "Of course, I'm afraid it would cost a little more, as I mentioned. Also, the attachment mechanisms will be a little sophisticated, meaning some more skilled work is required there. I judge that such a well-made item would normally cost you... roughly one-hundred and seventy gold for the bow, and ninety gold for twelve needles, were you to go to other suppliers. However, we can order the basic materials here and craft them for cheaper product, since we bypass the additional cost of outsourcing labour. I will need to get back to you about exact figure, though, I'm afraid."

OOC: we can order in any material, but some resources will be cheaper when we get them as spoils from certain threads (none of which are quite completed yet, sadly). I am going to order the basic materials from the Bazaar then craft the item here, which should result in a fair discount. On top of that, there may be additional discounts from RPing out the transaction, as well as TC ways and means... but we'll have to see exactly how much.

EDIT: some potentially erroneous price information removed.

I could feel my grin grow much more natural as she spoke the words. I had enough to buy them! I felt a little disappointed when she stated it would take time to accomplish this. I needed to get back to Eiskalt now! I sighed as I forced myself to push the entire issue of the war aside and just focus on the weapon for now. "Y-Yes." I stated in a neutral tone, "I would like to purchase the steel masterworking for both, please?"

Just like what the top says. I'll take the weapon in masterwork steel. Thank you!

"We can certainly do that, although that will up the cost of the bolts again - say by about forty-five gold, base price. Again, though, I'm sure that will end up considerably discounted. I shall process your order immediately. Now, if you could just provide some contact details..."

"For you."

Otto looked up from his ledger to the apprentice before him, then focused on the letter the man was proffering out to him. The orc took it, opened it up, and ran his eyes curiously over the contents, while the apprentice silently took his leave.

Mr Bastum,

A new order for you. Please see the schematics enclosed. We have calculated the approximate amount of material required. If possible, please complete
ASAP. Also note that our company has extended an additional 10% discount on items made for the impending conflict in Eiskalt, so please factor this
into consideration.

Regards,

The Management.

Otto paused there for a moment, and stared unfocusedly into the middle distance. After a few seconds, he returned to the letter's contents, paying particular attention to the diagrams which had been included below the short message. It was thorough, with descriptions of the client's arm dimensions as well as the intricacies of the adjustable mounting straps and stock connection port.

So... masterwork steel. Good. You'd want a strong metal for something so small, otherwise it mightn't pack much of a punch at all. The stock would be easy to carve, and the body also simple to construct. A lot of it could be formed separately in moulds using crucible steel, then fixed together. The difficult bits would be the connections and actual bow, but the layering of steel types with different, yet complimentary, qualities was child's play to any decent smith. And Otto was much more than merely 'decent'.

First though, he'd need something to work with.

Otto shouldered his way through the bustling crowd, a ponderous grey whale breaking above the surface of the ocean. It was uncomfortably warm, and he had to squint against the glare, but at length he came to the familiar front of one of his supplier's warehouses. The orc made a beeline for the welcoming shade within, and wiped his brow once he had escaped the press of bodies outside.

"Welcome back, sir," said a friendly voice to his side. "What can I do for you today?"

Otto turned to see a middle-aged man, one of the front workers he had encountered before during his trips to supply the three forges he usually found himself working in these days. Otto returned the smile faintly, and approached the fellow.

"Business," he said, "and some water if you have any." Otto took the figure he had taken from the crossbow schematics, and passed it over. "Just a small order today, I'm afraid. I'd like to purchase this much steel, oak, and bowstring."

OOC

To Bazaar staff: I wish to purchase the raw materials necessary for the items BlueGhost has described (masterwork light steel crossbow with detachable stock and wrist mount, plus twelve masterwork steel bolts), and also get a quote on the Bazaar price for a finished product, so that she can compare the costs for herself. Finally, please see this (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?26532-Merchant-Agreements-Character-Ability-List) before determining the price (and note that as this is a transaction thread, the item probably won't count as spoils). Thanks.

The man took the note from Otto, looking over the details. He squinted and turned the paper in his hands a few times, scratching his jaw absent-mindedly. After a minute, he turned and whistled to one of the other men nearby. The dwarf, leaning casually against a shipping crate and smoking idly, snapped to attention and toddled over to the human and the Orc. The first man held out the note and walked away back to his work.

The dwarf watched him go with a wry grin, turning back to Otto apologetically. "Sorry about that Otto. Jermin's a good lad, but none too bright. He doesn't like to let on he isn't too good with the reading."

The dwarf, Torig, looked over the sheet of paper and nodded to himself.

"Aye, we can do that for you. If you give me a few minutes, I'll go rustle up the materials for you lad. Same price as usual for you, of course," he added as he steered his broad, bulky frame through the busy warehouse. True to his word, he returned inside of ten minutes with a bundle of gear wrapped up in a sheet of sacking-cloth. He handed it over to Otto with a smile.

Alright folks, appy polly loggies for delays - it breaks down like this.

If BlueGhost were to buy the masterwork steel crossbow and ammo from the Bazaar, it would cost a total of 439 GP.

Going through Otto, and with the Trading Company's offered discount for the war, it will cost 395 GP.

The choice is entirely yours BlueGhost.

I nodded at the given price. It was a bit more lengthy than what I wanted, but I was willing to pay the price. "I'll take it!" I smirked as I reached into my money sack to grab the needed money out. With a weapon like this, I would now be able to perform melee and missile attacks with ease! And it was the ability to perform various attacks that I knew would help me survive the dreaded war coming up...

Okay, I'll buy it through the Trading Company. So it's 395 GP taken from my account.

BlueGhost, I'm reopening this thread because some things were done incorrectly.

The bazaar cost of a masterwork steel crossbow with 12 masterwork bolts is 383 GP, BlueGhost. This is 12 GP less than what you paid from TTC. Otto, the cost of the raw materials necessary to craft the item are 255 GP.

I need the following questions answered in the order they appear:

1) BlueGhost, do you want to review the transaction or keep it how it is?
2) If she wants to review it, what is your new price quote, Otto?
3) BlueGhost, do you want to buy the crossbow and bolts from TTC or the bazaar?

Ashla

1) BlueGhost, do you want to review the transaction or keep it how it is?

Sure... But can I get my original GP back first, please?

Currently waiting to hear back from Dirks about pricing. Apologies for the delay.

Otto
03-25-14, 09:57 AM
Sorry for the delay. Dirks has just got back to me about pricing.

We can offer you the item for 352 gold, which is 31 gold cheaper than standard Bazaar rate (and a bit cheaper again than the IC-haggled Bazaar price would have been). Is this acceptable?

Ashla
03-25-14, 10:15 AM
That's okay. :)
And sure, I'll buy it with the 352 GP

Otto

Excellent. I'll let Dirks and the TCC know.

Otto
03-31-14, 10:30 PM
Dirks, since you're the one who oversaw this, can you wrap it up? 352 GP from BG, and 7 GP to the TC bank. Cheers.
