Name: Artemis Fade Black

Race: Half Demon

Age: 19

Height: 9’7”

Weight: Average (a.k.a. I have no idea what a guy with that kind of height should weigh)

Appearance: Artemis has jet black hair that frames a pale, angular face with almost hollow seeming cheeks and covers pointed ears. His eye lashes are on the border line of femininity, and surround blood red eyes. Artemis’ lips are thin and almost as colorless as his face. The lips conceal teeth with pointed sharp canines. He wears a loose black shirt with long sleeves. His pants are also black, and so are his strapped leather boots. The halfbreed also wears a long black hooded cloak at times when stealth is of the essence, or when he wants to remain hidden. Artemis has long fingers that he uses frequently for carving and his flute. He also has large black feathered wings, but they usually stay within his body. His shoulder blades have a tattoo in the written language of the dead to show that they are there even when they are not out. For the most part, Artemis doesn’t fly and keeps his wings inside. A side effect of this is that they are weak and sore when he finally brings them out. He can only fly for 18minutes max at one time.

Personality: Artemis has a usually cold and controlled demeanor that conflicts with his very short temper when he is angry. Rarely is he the comforting friend that society prizes. Instead he prefers to keep his loyalties barely visible. The half-breed is generally an anti-social, but can show his full colors when introduced to an interesting conversation. Perhaps the most amusing factors of his personality are his morbid sense of humor and his lack of a conscience. Smiles are kept from his face except in particularly amusing occasions, when he has a lead on Zarv’s location, or when he is killing someone. However when he does befriend somebody/something, he has unwavering loyalty to that individual. And if that individual should betray his trust, he will not give them a second chance. Most likely he will be seeking revenge.

Likes: Playing his flute, interacting with shadows, carving, hunting, training.

Dislikes: Humans, soldiers, interacting with the dead, necromancers, Zarv.

Skills:

Shadowspeaking- Artemis can interact with shadows through a mental connection. They have a relationship comparable to that of a master and a loyal dog. The shadows enjoy the half-demon’s company, and vice-versa. They whisper to him and cling to him. However, he can’t solidify them. The only time he can is if he draws a shadow from it’s object. For example, wielding a weapons shadow instead of itself. The whole time he carries it or keeps it with him, it taxes him greatly. The catch is that Artemis can’t interact with his friends when it is light. The area has to be at least relatively dark for him to communicate with them, and a room must be lightless for him to call a shadow forth.

Deathspeaking- Artemis carves because he enjoys it and because his carvings serve a particular purpose. He can sense the presence of the dead that have not yet passed on. Sometimes they possess his carvings, choosing the one that best resembles what they were in their life. It can be to help him, hinder him, for a chat, or a undetermined reason. The intricate carvings are only six centimeters at their highest so they can do hardly any damage. It’s a pretty useless skill considering that Artemis hates the little “chats”, having no time for the dead’s cryptic messages.

Presence- Most creatures only have two view points: open eyes and closed eyes. Artemis has a third that he sort of steps into. His presence is a state in which he is aware of shadows and the dead, and in turn they are aware of him. Artemis must use his presence in order to be able to attempt the above skills.

Carving- Artemis is a good carver. Most of the time he just does it for fun. Sometimes he has to sell them when he runs into trouble with money.

Flute- He is an extremely good musician.

Hand to Hand Fighting- He isn't a champion, but he can get things done.

Armor: None

Weapons:
Black fingerless glove with steel knuckle spikes x2
iron knife x1

Weaknesses:
A big weakness for Artemis is the light. Sunny days make him uncomfortable, and he can’t even think about contacting the shadows in light. Though he has excellent eyesight in the dark, the half-demon is color blind during the day and cannot always see small details.

History:

Years 0-1
Artemis’ father was a fully fledged demon that somehow fell in love with a human woman. So he took her one night and left her when he was through, hoping nobody would know. His comrades pieced together the woman’s crazed descriptions of him and took action. Before the day was over, they had ripped him apart with words such as “traitor” and “turncoat”. The woman herself died in childbirth, leaving the child in the midwife’s arms. She in turn handed it to a passing band of gypsies.

Years 2-8
At this point in time, Artemis looked like a pretty human child. His cheeks had color, his eyes were an icy blue, and his fangs were absent. He was raised by the whole caravan, determined everybody’s child to bring up. There they assisted him in developing his musical skill. They also taught him letters, basic math, and survival skills. He was happy. An old man called Shaloch was his favorite “parent”. Artemis would spend all day following Shaloch around like a loving puppy. The old man’s praise and displays of affection were few and far in-between, yet the two got along splendidly. Unfortunately it was not meant to last. One night Artemis accompanied Shaloch into the city late at night to buy medicine for a sick child. On the way back a drunken soldier decided to try and pick a fight with the old man. When he didn’t respond to the soldier’s insults, the soldier knocked him hard on the head. Shaloch responded by pressing a nerve in his opponent’s nose. Eyes watering at the pain, the soldier ran Shaloch through with his pike. Not a moment after, the soldier’s friend came running up. He had not drank anything that night and had the sense to try and pull his friend away from the body. Seeing the child left behind, he took Artemis into his own home.

Years 9-13

Artemis unwillingly lived with the prison guard. Helping out with the feeding of prisoners, he soon became desensitized to violence. Having some of his adoptive father’s pals knock him around a few times soon taught him how to defend himself and how to stay out of view. At this age the boy adopted his complete black dress style for blending in with the shadows and the knuckle spikes for punching back. His transformation actually began with him skulking in the shadows. It was night time, but his father wasn’t done with his game of cards. Artemis was tired and leaned his head against a stone wall. He closed his eyes, and opened them again slowly. His eyelids were beginning to feel heavy, but he wanted to be ready as soon as it was time to go. So the boy tried to find a compromise between open and shut. There it was, and the boy knew he was seeing something more than a blurry half open vision. He felt things. And then a whisper came in his ear. It was a voice unlike any other he had ever heard. It sounded fluid and liquidy, like smoke. Artemis smiled and tried to make the sound back. He mimicked the sound perfectly. The sound came with a weird sensation very similar to what water flowing up and out of his throat should feel like (if it were possible). Then he heard something in the distance, a sound like his father calling him. Artemis snapped out of it and looked up. His father gasped and took a step back. The boy’s eyes were red.

…There is no record of Artemis Fade Black’s life beyond this point.

Do you have any hand to hand skills? I mean, you have black, metal knuckled gloves. Can the knife be iron?

The knife is now iron. Happy with the hand to hand?

Well, it works. I suppose that's average, or less.

So, you're approved. Don't powergame those fancy demon abilities.
