William Gray
09-18-06, 05:35 PM
Name: William Gray of Estershire.
Gender: Male.
Age: Thirty-one.
Appearance
1. Eyes: His eyes are mud green and intelligent.
2. Hair: His hair is dark brown and somewhat unkempt.
3. Build: He is slim, leanly muscular and moderately tall.
4. Clothing: He wears a long-sleeved gray shirt made of rough-weave cotton and rough black cloth trousers tucked into half-calf black leather walking boots. Other items of clothing include thick gray woolen socks and a simple black leather belt. He also wears a beaten brown leather coat (not a trench coat).
5. Armor: A weighty, old iron chain-mail vest.
Weaponry: He owns one iron long sword and one well-tooled iron dagger.
Items: He carries a worn dark gray woolen cloak with a wooden clasp at the throat, for cold weather, as well as an extra pair of gloves, much thinner and made of soft black suede. Two small pouches are attached to his belt, one containing some matches, a few dice, and perhaps a pack of cigarettes, the other empty and available for coins or assorted miscellanea. He often is in the possession of some rope.
1. Cloth Bag: This item is unremarkable and made of gray wool reinforced with leather and iron staples. It resembles a small pack, and he keeps his cloak and gloves in the pack, as well as any food or to-be-acquired items. It also contains his portable hole.
2. Portable Hole: It may be placed on the ground and will create a small dimensional pocket 7' deep by 3'6" wide. This pocket is capable of being locked from the inside or outside by its owner (William Gray) and can hold one person only. The person inside will have breathable air for only five to ten minutes, depending on their lung capacity. If placed on a wall, it will create a temporary hole in that wall matching the dimensions previously given. It can only be used once a day at the most. Also, it cannot be sold.
Magical Talents: None whatsoever.
Abilities: As with many drifters, he relies most often on his intelligence. He is bright, quick-witted, and learns quickly. He considers himself to be a decent judge of character and can be quite charming when he applies himself. He is about as strong as would be expected of an active man his size, and he is perhaps slightly faster than one might expect. Though he is moderately skilled in the use of his long sword, he tries to avoid violence whenever possible. Should violence erupt, he is reasonably apt enough to defend himself.
Occupation: He works a variety of jobs, the most common being that of a bodyguard or a bounty hunter. He also accepts private investigation work. He refuses to accept work as an assassin.
Personality: He is mostly a good-natured individual. Due to the nature of his changing occupations, he can be cold, intimidating, or suspicious if necessary, but he is by no means sadistic or cruel. At the same time, he is by no means heroic in nature, and rarely does he put his own interests aside for a stranger. If he has friends, he is extremely loyal, but he is mostly a loner. He may affect a sharp tongue at times.
History: Born in Estershire, Corone, he was raised by his father, the innkeeper Jacobi Gray. His mother died in childbirth, and he knows little about her, only that she was purported to be a prostitute. He grew up in the town of Estershire, and after a certain age spent most of his time in the company of a rag-tag band of local teenagers, dedicated to little else other than friendship, leisure, and mischief. He rarely attended school, and does not know how to read or write. As time went by, the group of friends slowly disintegrated as its members slowly acquired jobs or left to travel. Eventually, after expressing no wishes to work in the service industry with his father, he left Estershire at the age of twenty to travel the continent. Since then, he has acquired a variety of skills working as a bodyguard and bounty hunter. Occasionally, he will visit his father in Estershire when in the area, and that relationship is by no means antagonistic. In the eleven years since his departure, he has experienced a wide variety of things, both pleasant and otherwise, but he has largely been able to avoid major drama in his personal life or occupations, the notable exception being a short-term enlistment with the army in a small-scale war at the age of twenty-seven. Since then, he considers himself more mature and also less prone to unwarranted violence. However, if he feels violence is warranted, he considers himself to be capable of executing it.
