View Full Version : From the Sands of Fallien

Eolia
04-05-14, 04:07 PM
Name: Eolia. Supposed to mean graceful or wind or something stupid like that.
Age: Nineteen. Maybe. Yeah, we'll go with that.
Race: Part human and part something. Desert drake, or so I'm told. Would explain why everyone wants to kill me.
Hair Color: Sun-burnt brown. We'll call it black.
Eye Color: Silver! Can you believe that? People say I'm blessed by Suravani, even while they jab spears at me.
Height: I'm a tall person, by Fallien standards... 5'8"
Weight: 145lbs ... it's the scales. I swear.
Occupation: Optimistic Opportunistic Survivor. Mercenary... some call it.

Appearance: Eolia has the usual dark brown skin and black hair of a native Fallien, but that is where the similarities end. Both her height and build is abnormally large for a Fallien female and the reasons why couldn't be more apparent. Sandy brown scales cover a majority of her cheeks while a considerable amount wrap around her forearms. More run down the sides of her body and back in varying patches. From her knees down, the scales are hardened and more reminiscent of a true desert drake's paws complete with sharp talons. No wings or tail though (thankfully). To finish the look of a very weary traveler, her hair is a wild mess reaching down just slightly past her shoulders if unbound. It's usually tied with whatever is at hand.

Scars of all shapes and sizes adorn most of her body with the most visibly notable being two long claw marks flowing from the top right of her face over a few cheek scales to the bottom left. Hidden under her clothing and armor is a large scar where some beast has gored the outside of her left thigh.

Personality: While not exactly ambitious beyond finding food, supplies and making through another day, Eolia is independent to the point. There is safety in numbers in the unforgiving deserts of Fallien and growing up in an inhospitable environment tends to leave its mark and scars on people whether it is mental or physical. Slow to trust and even slower to share (especially in meager times); Eolia's primary concern is her own survival first. Even so, she tries to be friendly. Unfortunately it usually comes out as snippy and sarcastic.

Racial Trait(s):

Desert Drake Lineage - People usually think it's great to have dragon blood in one's past and history! Turns out, it isn't very good when it's extremely apparent while living in a xenophobic area. It's even worse when people tend to blame one of your parents for killing their loved ones and stealing their sheep. It does have a few perks though:
-Eolia can eat most things, even if they have spoiled past the point of safety for humans... only as a last resort though.
-Eolia is immune to most toxins, as long as they are organically based.
-Most people want to kill Eolia. It's hard to make friends.

Desert Drake Scales - The telltale sign of what she is. While most of her scales are patchy to the point of being useless, they are about as tough as hard leather. As it is, Eolia has partial protection in some parts of her body (beneath) her coverings. The only notable coverings on her body are her forearms, sides of her abdominal, and shins/paws. Specific strengths are below and to be treated as scales (Thus flexible. Kind of):
Forearms: Hard Leather
Shins: Hard Leather
Paws/Feet: Iron
Sides of Abdominal: Hard Leather

"I like it hot..." - Eolia likes hot day and detests the cold nights of the desert. The warmer the weather, the better.

Abilities:
Strength - Being half-starved on any given day, Eolia is pretty strong considering all things. About the average strength of a single person! x1

Endurance - Despite being hungry all the time, living in a desert on the fringes of society has given the girl a long time to get used to things, both in body and spirit. Eolia is twice as robust as normal people. x2

Speed - Speed isn't exactly essential when trying to eke out an existence on the fringes of society in a desert. It's more useful for fighting bandits and such. Even then, Eolia is about as quick as normal people. x1

"Come on!" - In the thick of combat, Eolia let's go the few shreds of decency she has and fights tooth and nail (quite literally sometimes). Eolia temporarily gains a x2 to all her basic stats listed above. This can ONLY apply if Eolia is fighting two or more foes at once AND has been injured. Lasts for 2 posts/45 seconds.

Grits - Eolia has taken some grievous wounds during her short life and it would have been shorter if she couldn't ignore most of it and finish a battle. After taking a significant enough injury, Eolia's adrenalin begins to work overtime and for the rest of the battle, pain is numbed to a certain point. This doesn't mean that she can suddenly start swinging a weapon with a broken arm or run with a snapped leg. Just means it doesn't hurt... as much. Sucks a lot after the adrenalin runs out.

Skills:
Maintenance - It helps to keep one's things in working order. Eolia may not be able make anything, but she can fix most things. Sort of. If you call lashing things together with scrap pieces of leather straps fixing things. She does know how to sharpen her blades though. That's more important.

Survivalist (desert) - It's important to know where to get drinking water, things to eat and what or who to avoid in the Fallien Desert. Eolia should be treated as an expert in regards to this. Then again, her mantra for food is, "If it's moved at some point, you can eat it. Probably."

"What do you mean forms? Just swing, right?" - Eolia is not formally trained in swordplay and relies more on her brute strength. She does know where the sharp edges are and which end to stick people with.

Uneducated - Eolia can read a few words. Maps she can definitely decipher. Pages from a book are pretty good for soaking blood... not really. Better for tinder.

"I borrow! Steal is such an ugly word." - Eolia isn't above trying to take things unnoticed if she can. This usually amount to little more than food. She is rather quick at stowing things away.

Equipment:
"They're not rags! Just lets my skin breath..." - Ratty and tattered pieces of old cotton clothing (probably from dead people) cover Eolia to provide some modesty. Slightly bloodstained in some places.

Worn Buckler - It's got some iron bands holding it together and some of the wood hasn't splintered yet. Part of the top even has a nifty wedge cut out! Wait what? That's not supposed to be there?

Notched Iron Tulwar - It's a big prize considering that most of these blades are the signature weapons of the Fallien cavalry. It's well worn though and the blade has started to grow teeth from use. (It's bad for a blade to grow teeth... very bad). It does what it needs to though. Scabbard not included. This blade does attract bad attention from those who live in Fallien and who have been in the military or militia, which is just about everyone over the age of twelve.

Iron Knives (3) - Eolia keeps them all sharpened as best she can. In total, Eolia has three knives on her person at any given time. One is strapped to her right thigh, one on her belt on the left side and the final one is hidden behind the small of her back.

Large Iron Club - Found in the sands of the desert on some dead pile of bones. It's rather worn though and no real point in trying to keep it in "good" condition. It's a large slab of metal to be swung wildly. It is strapped to her back with a quick release clasp on her front in case it ever needs to be discarded quickly.

Torn Traveler's Cloak - It provides protection against the stinging sandstorms and warmth against the cold of night. The holes and tears don't really help.

Rations and Foodstuffs - Most of it is heavily salted dried meats, some pieces of dried fruits and water. Always need water.

History:
"You want to know about my life? That's a first. Let's see... well I was born, obviously. Don't know which side of me is the human or desert drake. I was raised with one of the many groups of roaming nomads. Guess they saw me as something of a novelty. I got traded to some other group before I got captured in a bandit raid. The bandits kept me for amusement for a while and even taught me to fight a little. Then most of them got killed by a bunch of giant scorpions. Well... more like the desert collapsed beneath us and we fell into their hive. I managed to escape in the confusion and wandered around for a while. I remember passing out eventually and when I awoke... I was in the care of spice farmers or something. Turned out the rest of the villagers had a grudge against desert drakes and since I looked like one, they didn't want me one bit. So I borrowed a few things and left."

"The rest? Well, the rest is history. Turns out having a good sword arm can earn me some food and safety in merchant caravans. I never go into the cities though... wish I could. Would love to see more of the world. I mean, I hear there are places called forests where food is everywhere."

If someone had only one thing to say about Eolia, call her a survivor. While her short life has been plagued with mishaps and unhappy events abound, she manages to push on through to the next day and to keep going. Part of it is simply because she doesn't know what else she is supposed to do. The other part is a small hope that someday she'll be able to rest her head without one hand clutched around a knife. That would be nice one day.

Hey, welcome.

Thanks for incorporating Althanas' lore into your character!

Just a few things: 1) at level 1 you can have 3 abilities. Right now, the teeth, toxic immunity, dragon scales, strength, endurance and "Come on!" are all abilities. I'll need you to drop 3. If you drop your regular armor, I'll allow you to use the dragon scales at iron equivilent and only drop 2 abilities. The choice is yours, my friend.

Alright! I have made her nearly naked, lowered the strength of her scales (after looking at it, it didn't make a lot of sense to me with the strengths and it was bothering me...), starved her (more) to make her weaker with strength, and made her bones/teeth normal strength to a human.

How long is "temporarily" in "Come on!"?

Uhh... would five minutes be fair? Or is it post amount? 2 posts? So... my action, other people's actions, then my action and then it runs out? I'm not sure what a fair time amount would be.

Two posts is about the equivilent of 30 seconds to a minute in most battles. Please edit that in.

Edited it in!

Clarification:
Stated that "Come on!" only lasts for 2 posts/45 seconds.
