Vaan
09-19-06, 08:44 PM
Name-Vaan Migard “The Deepest Flame”
Age-Old
Race-Guardian
Gender-Male
Hair Color-Gold
Eye Color-Gold/Black

Appearance

-Vaan is now almost human, even through the blessed eyes of Guardians. To any other race, he would be just a scarred man who retains his looks well for his age. His face is normally handsome, chiseled features and piercing eyes, but he is no longer that way. The left half of his face has changed, his left eye no longer containing a retina or iris, completely solid in the color of smoke, always shifting and dark, the skin around it darkened and a split in the skin stretching to where his ear should be. His body is light yet muscular, out of habit rather than exercise. His left arm is always aflame, and he limps severely from his left leg. To many he is a barely living cripple, but his eyes have a fierce pride that says otherwise.

For clothing, he tends to wear either leathers or breezy linens, and never anything that isn’t long-sleeved. He also tends to wear a hat of some kind, usually whatever he can pick up in the local area. One thing that he is never seen without is his cane.

Skills

-Particle Manipulation: The process of magically altering the physical makeup of something. This can be used to separate chemicals, alter color and size, mend or split inorganic materials and even increase or decrease weight. The process is slow and requires a large amount of attention, something as small as cracking a rock would take around a minute.

-Pyrokinesis: The ability to start, stop, and control fire. This can be used to extinguish small blazes, to cause spontaneous combustion, and to purposefully direct flames. At this stage, it is possible to extinguish flames no larger than a small house, to create controlled streams of heat, and to form semi-solid objects temporarily. This requires intense concentration and can be very draining depending on time and difficulty. Putting out a house sized blaze would require several minutes, steams of heat can cause mild burns, and weapons require double the energy to wield and sustain for short durations while being easily broken.

Abilities

-Burn: Vaan’s left arm is always on fire, and the flesh heals almost instantly. When the arm is cut off, it grows back, and is impossible to destroy. The fire produces a tremendous amount of heat, but cannot light anything on fire. He retains full use of his arm as well, several seconds of direct contact with his skin will cause mild burns, like grabbing a firebrand.

-Dark Eye: Vaan’s left eye is burned as well, though in a different way. The eye is completely solid in color, yet somehow appears to be swirling shades of black. This eye sees with a high degree of detail.

Items

-Oak Cane: A cane made from dark oak, it is tall and of decent width, to thin to serve as a weapon and thick enough to offer support. Is made from a single piece, finely crafted with a brass handle and clawed base.

-Vag’Dresgnoth: Ancient book of blood magic, it is responsible for his condition and he intends to keep it and undo the damage and try again. Holy men have their books, he has his.

History

-Guardians are little known on Althanas, generally never interacting with the other races directly. They are a race of proud noble people, born into the sky and remaining in the sky. Each guardian is born with an element or energy with which they are associated and which ones determine their position in the hierarchy. The highest ranking are typically those born into air, improved dominance over the wind making them superior fighters and crucial to maintaining the city, followed by the equal elements that are followed by the lesser energies collectively. An individual of great power may be able to rise as far as equality with the second elements, but the air dominates them all. The reason for this is the guardians are each born with a set of giant wings protruding from the base of their shoulders making them an airborne people. Their natural magics have allowed them to raise a vast city entirely into the sky, through the air magic, giving the air wielding guardians complete rule lest they let the city fall. Lesser energies are responsible for the hiding of the city; camouflage, illusions, memory erasing of accidental exposures. Occasionally there are guardians born without elements, without wings, or without bodies. These are killed on birth or cast off the city; if they cannot fly they cannot live.

Vaan was one of those born without an element, though his skill in manipulation and understanding were unrivaled. He had been allowed to live as he did have wings, both parents were low ranking and so it wasn’t inquired as to his power, letting him escape a brutal death shortly after birth. Besides having natural elements, Guardians were excellent practitioners of the ground-bound magic, in which Vaan excelled tremendously. After many years of study and practice, Vaan attained a level of skill such that he could pretend to have natural magic and be believed, but his ambition was great. He wanted to be stronger still, and so he delved further and further into his studies until he came upon blood magics. It was in a very ancient book written in a dead language, it took him two years of learning just to read it, the book was called the Vag’Dresgnoth. Inside it were the spells of blood; increasing your strength, your size, body mastery, blood bondage, devil pacts, immortality, even the creation of souls. Of these, he sought to give himself a real element, once it worked he would take all the elements and energies, and he would rule the city. It was rare for guardians to be born with two, usually only an element and an energy, and with all of them he would be the most powerful guardian to have ever lived. For his first element he chose to start with fire, and he spent years more collecting the necessary ingredients, the time mattered little as the oldest guardian was going on 4,000 and looked no older than Vaan. When at last the time came, Vann performed the spell and for a moment, he thought it worked. At first, his arm spontaneously lit on fire, but horrible pain came as well and he realized it was not so. When he awoke in a medical chamber, his worst fears were surpassed. Not only was his arm aflame, it healed just as quickly and could not be put out, several more amputated arms lay smoldering beside him as well. That wasn’t the end either, he had lost his wings and his leg was stiff and unmoving. After a week when they realized he wasn’t going to heal or magically fix it, the others escorted him off the city and lowered him to the ground. From then on, he was alone, alone on the grounded world of Althanas.

Looks very interesting to say the least. Do not regenerate that arm instantly in battle or anything and we'll be cool.

Approved and welcome to Althanas.
