View Full Version : Items Question: Ability or not?

Sorry for the trouble again with the item issue, just want to make sure my guesses are right (they probably aren't...). Was going to make this a pm but figured it would be best to make a public post since I know a lot of other people have some confusion on the item enchantments counting as an ability or not.

First item I would like is a teleport stone:

Here's Version 1.
The one I have in mind is a teleport stone, once a day. Requires 10 minutes of concentration on place desired so not useful in battle and requires the person to have visited the place before

I believe this would count as an ability since it effects a character? Would be nice to have it confirmed.

Version 2.
A stone that creates a doorway. Doorway lasts for one person to step through or 10 seconds, whatever happens first.

Would this still be an ability since it effects a character? If so, is there a version of a teleport stone that does not count as an ability? I'm just trying to use it as an excuse to quickly travel to countries and be able to have a reason in stories to merchant stuff across countries without spending a year to sail back and forth.

For the second item, I had in mind a stone, gateway, or something that links to a stone basement/warehouse in another dimension. In here, Fox could store books, herbs, or whatever. Over time, I was thinking he could expand it by curving out more rooms maybe a library, garden, etc and thus be a traveling merchant/librarian.

Anyways, I was thinking of going on a few quests to get it and then slowly expand on it. Would this just be an item since it would just be like a house that just so happens to have its entrance be movable?

Both teleports wouldn't add to your character's power level, but would be listed in your character near your abilities. The reason for this is so if somehow it did come to cross that line it would be picked up.

Same goes for the gateway. In both cases you should be aware that the more powerful the item the more it will cost. Getting a ring or stone that mimics a high level ability is not an easy thing to do.

I'm going to try to spell it out as clearly as I can for you, Fox.

The general rule is this:

IF THE ENCHANTMENT BOOSTS AN EXISTING ABILITY OR YOU CANNOT PROVIDE A LINK TO WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED, IT A COUNTS ABILITY IN THE ROG.

If that confuses you, consider the point of the rule. In the past, people would buy weapons that would increase in strength (tier) as their character leveled up. So at level 1 it was iron, but by level 5 it could be titanium. They also did this with bone strength, etc. Thus, in this situation, the enchantment would boost the character's offensive or defensive ability.

Really, most of it is semantics.

Let's consider your questions. For 1, you wrote: "Requires 10 minutes of concentration on place desired so not useful in battle and requires the person to have visited the place before." Items do not concentrate, thus this enchantment boosts your ability to create an effect after concentrating. It is considered an ability.

For 2 you wrote: "A stone that creates a doorway. Doorway lasts for one person to step through or 10 seconds, whatever happens first." This does nothing to your character's abilities. It is merely a stone that creates a portal that allows a character to transport. It is not an ability. This is Zack Blaze's teleport stone.

But, stepping aside, if the point of having this stone is to avoid traveling time, you can simply use liquid time. We are not going to knock you points if you are in one quest in Raiaera and another in Corone. This isn't Aelyria, you don't have to time stamp your threads.

With your character in particular, you've provided no links to where runes were purchased, thus they get considered as abilities. If you go and buy the runes, you'd get accepted w/ them. The system is incredibly flexible and I'm really unsure of what your hold up is.

Thank you for your help and time. I think I understand it better (Hopefully).

Was thinking of maybe doing a solo quest or two where Fox travels various places to either sell things, collect materials for potions, or something like that.
