Time passed.

Lorenor stood with Grem, the soldier of the Eiskaltian military that had assisted him during his battle with the core beast.

A demonic creature of legend. Lorenor had not expected to find such a creature being used by the enemy ranks. He rubbed his chin thoughtfully as he organized the military party that would be in defense of the kingdom of Eiskalt. They were brave, but ultimately, not foolish. Only Grem had stayed behind when the core beast launched it's impressive attack. Lorenor carefully chose the residential servant quarters to fight the enemy dead on. There were many traps set aside in various location by Lorenor and the Eiskaltian milita. He knew they would have to pull out all the stops if they were to win. I have to bring them hope... Lorenor thought to himself as he observed the soldiers working. A full on assault party would expect nothing but civi's lurking in that area. That is why Lorenor had chosen it. Soldiers would be in wait at every turn and corner for the enemy and force them to engage in close-quarters combat. Lorenor was anxious for the fighting to begin. He was a paladin after all, and battle was in his blood. He stood outside of the servant quarters buildings that were attached to the main portion of the castle. Though Lorenor was quite familiar with the area around him, he didn't know all the secret hallways and passages like the Eiskaltians knew them.

They would be the key to winning the war. Lorenor had little knowledge of the enemy attack party. He just knew they would likely come well prepared. Lorenor had lost contact with the other members of the Ixian Knights defending units. It didn't matter. He had suitable allies working alongside him. They were talented and brave soldiers, and Lorenor would bleed and die alongside his brothers and sisters. Eiskalt had become his adopted home and that was the key that lurked in his heart. I have a home to defend. The stone felt good underneath him, sturdy and strong. He sat on a stone staircase that lead up to the servant's quarters of the Eiskaltians. The stairs were simple but widely used by Eiskalts architectural design. The front gate of the building lurked behind Lorenor and a fancy arch was visible above the heavy double doors. Surprisingly enough, they were open as if to invite the enemy in and swallow them whole. Lorenor kept his massive sword rested against his lap. The iron gleaming in the afternoon sunlight. He looked up and saw the sun. Those days, the sun was a symbol of prosperity and hope.

As he sat there, he planned and waited. He had requested all of his soldiers to place themselves in their various stations and prepare. There were largely fifteen soldiers under his service. They had all volunteered, and about five were snipers. They were hidden across the various rooftops of nearby buildings as they lay in wait for the battle to begin. Two weeks prior, they had all stared into the cold and unforgiving eyes of a demonic beast. They had emerged victorious. With Lorenor taking point they managed to emerge victorious against that core beast. Lorenor had one more item in his hands and it was a simple book. It was a copy of the Thayne Codex, and he was praying from it as he prepared himself mentally and physically for battle. He assumed the enemy would come out with guns blazing. He didn't know how true that notion would be that day. Only that he assumed that. Strangely enough, Lorenor did not feel nervous. Or even afraid. The core beast battle had shown him that he could defeat any foe no matter how terrifying they appeared to be. And so, the paladin squire prayed. He recited the words of the Thayne Codex over and over in his mind, reading the verses that made him most relaxed. Most ready for the massacre that was likely to occur once it began. Wars are fought for many reasons. Lorenor thought to himself. But it is always ugly... Lorenor frowned. It is an ugly beast that rear's it's three headed form up from a lake of fire. A lake of fire, ready to consume all... Lorenor felt at peace. Ready to die for the cause of the Eiskaltians.

He couldn't remember the last time he'd had a good night's sleep, or a hot meal. Since he'd arrived in the land of Eiskalt and taken up their cause, all he knew was how to defend the Nation of Eiskalt. He'd become obsessed with that idea. Lorenor sat in prayer, periodically turning pages. As he read, he felt himself summoning up the courage he would need to face the enemy that was coming for Eiskalt. He knew that it would be long, and bloody. An event that would shape them all with the eyes of The All Thayne carefully watching and observing. There was a strange comfort in NOT knowing who the enemy actually was. In the first battle, they called up that monstrous Demon. I can't wait to see what surprises they will have for Eiskalt now. Lorenor thought to himself. He tapped his pointer finger against the handle of his sheathed weapon. It was seemingly a habit out of nerves. Instead, it was an itch. An itch to have the war that he longed for. He kept his eyes fixed on the pages of The Thayne Codex. His face calm and relaxed, but the ferocity in his eyes told all.

He was ready.

“Are you sure you’re up for this?” The deep voice belonged to a large figure atop one of Eiksalt Castle’s walls, “You didn’t even let the MizBiz medics heal you up too good before you took off again. And it’s probably a trap, anyways.”

A second, shorter figure replied, “Of course it’s a trap, Makai. I’m not an idiot. They’re doing this whole royal marriage thing to lure me specifically out. Cryla Orlouge is nowhere near the strategist that her daddy is. I doubt if the wedding is even legitimate.” A breeze blew through the platinum blonde hair of Zack Blaze.

Makai, a seven foot ogre who looked rather conspicuous draped in a long cowl, looked over to his associate. “Then why are we even here?”

“Can’t take the chance it’s not just a set up. If Eiksalt and Corone become buddy-buddy, we’ll have an endless stream of Ixian Knights being dropped faster than babies in Alerar.” His eyes scanned the grounds of the courtyard and took notice that the guards had actually left the drawbridge down so those who arrived late could still catch the ceremony. Several men clad thick in heavy army marched back and forth in perfect rhythm with one another and they even turned in time so that one another’s backs were always watched.

Eiksalt soldiers were pretty good at their job. It would satisfy Zack all the more once he had them under his thumb. A flash of white teeth flashed beneath Zack’s own green cloak. He knew that if he approached this in his typical fashion, he would become a human shish-kabob in no time. So Zack took a page from his rival, Devon Steel, and threw all caution to the wind.

“Go!” Zack yelled, and as if the monster were his very own pet, Makai jumped from the castle wall and landed directly into the courtyard. Clouds of dust and debris floated in the air around his large form, and the ground shook when the collision was made. Makai stood up as his shadow easily engulfed the two knights that had the unfortunate job of guard duty.

The beast let out a roar, and in an instant, Zack Blaze was gone.
