The Darkness in a Psalm of Light
Name: Narran Orlougne
Alias: ‘Pariah’
Age: 87
Race: Mystic
Gender: Male
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 175lbs
Eye Colour: Cyan
Hair Colour: Black
Alignment: Chaotic Evil
Homeland: Fallien
History: When the seed of Tinerad and Armonia Orlougne began to spread across kingdoms, few could foresee the darkness to come. In Corone, Sei Orlougne became the Hero of Radasanth. His family rose up around him, like moths to a flame, and formed an alliance of like-minded individuals with a distinctly pious, good-natured, and virtuous common goal. In a jealous rage, the eldest son of Tinerad and Armonia, born in secret and abandoned to the decay of time, fled to the sandy roils of Fallien’s desert.
For sixty years, Narran has hidden within the echelons of Fallien’s matriarchal society. Concealed by the dunes, he has cast out tendrils to the winds to witness his brother’s expanding fame, and grown in contempt with each passing day. Silence became rage and rage became cacophony. When Sei Orlougne emerged as a demi-god in pleated silk, something in Narran’s mind. Like the glass fragments of his latent mystic protection, he scattered all of his remaining morality, sense of justice, and determination to survive to the scorching gales of the desert tundra.
Whilst in the desert Narran discovered his ancestry as mystic was a powerful weapon to the tribes of Fallien. He learned the ways of the land, the ways of the sand, and the ways of the glass. Through delusion, sickness, and dance, Narran purged his body of the rage that had so consumed him, until he crossed the mountains, oasis, and spice fields of his prison and arrived in the Outsider’s Quarter.
The Mystics would suffer for their virtue. If he could not have power, and fame of his family, then why should Sei Orlougne? Armed with a menagerie of talents that were befitting for vengeance, he concealed himself upon a merchant vessel. He had one destination in mind - the city of Radasanth, where he could gain passage to the court of his younger brother. There he could find a cure for his thirst for vengeance finally.
Little did the sand pariah known that the war he committed himself to wage, would have to be put to one side whilst Corone itself fought for freedom, and whilst Althanas fought in the throes of its own twilight. The Glass Shard Pariah, it seemed, had dwelt in bitterness, self-loathing, and exile for too long. The world had changed, and with it, the power the name of a Mystic carried in the world. His curse, to silence the mind, would probe an unexpected salvation to the very people he sought to kill.
Skills: The skills below pertain to trials undertaken by Narran as he travelled northeast to the Outlander’s Post. As he arrived in Fallien at a young age, he knows much about the desert but little about the wider world.
Knowledge (Fallien): Adept knowledge of all the cultures, laws, and religions of the desert island. He does not know something about, though the finer details or the current, up to date trends and conventions may elude him little.
Knowledge (Politics): Average grasp of politics, its application in speech and its impact on society. Narran could must rhetoric and argument enough to defend his point, but a seasoned politician or official would easily best him.
Combat (Scythe): Master-crafted scythe for a master of its secrets. Narran is at one with his weapon, or any similarly designed tool. Whilst his skill is masterful, emotional turmoil and a lack of actually applying in a real fight renders it theoretical at best.
Abilities: Although outcast, Narran has the same genetics, and access to abilities as all other Mystics. How he chooses to use his powers, on the other hand, is different. Though Mystic Protection is present, his ‘unique’ nature warps his development.
Mystic Protection: Once per day (or battle). It protects him with a wall of glass until broken by a strong blow (iron strength or higher could break it). When broken, half the shield dissolves and the rest home in on the opponent. They cannot pierce armour.
Pariah: Narran will never have telepathy, nor can those possessing such ability read his thoughts. Animals bark, whelp, and cower in his presence. The hum of the void is anathema to most, and most people will find themselves very uncomfortable near him.
Equipment/Items: Though Narran possesses many mundane items, those detailed below pertain to abilities, skills, and interaction with others. He has basic travel supplies, small quarters in Fallien, and a few coin to barter for foodstuffs.
Null Croix: A large steel and Nirakkal glass scythe. The shaft is oak. The weapon itself is mundane but the vial of sand in the head is magical. Once per thread, Narran can conjure a chronometric field. For one post, he has X2 speed, and X2 dexterity.
