“There are only a few good men left in the galaxy. I’m not one of them.”

Occupation: Administrate Agent

History: Space is a dangerous place. War, crime, and spatial distortions; they are just a few ways you can die. I joined the Scarabrian military when I was young. They were a rag tag militia dedicated to policing the space trade families that kept our sector alive. It started out to be a peacekeeping operation, but when war between Scara Brae and Alerar broke out, I found myself on the front lines. I was an infantry soldier who knew more about farming than firearms, but taught me the lay of the land. A promotion to scout sergeant came soon enough and I found myself involved in espionage soon thereafter.
I do not like to think about those years. If you had seen the things, I saw you, and my comrades saw, you would understand why. You would not ask questions. The veterans of Eluriand 5, the culminating conflict of the war, try to forget. My deeds on that day afforded me an Administrate tenure as an operative on one of the trade family ships that became the new ruling body of Scara Brae. Asides the near destruction of Alerarian space, the colonies of Scara Brae gained the right to self-govern. The trade families found common ground, banded together, and used the protection of the Administrate rebuild their planets, their lives, and their fortunes.
There is one Administrate agent on every ship in the sector with a trade docket. They act as a constant reminder that the people of this sector had to give up so much to have basic freedoms. The Administrate is by far the most secretive organisation in the known galaxy. It has its own agendas, besides keeping neutrality and peace, to which even I am not privy. I do my job. I keep the ship running. I keep its ears pricked, and its heart beating. I keep all its dirty laundry from airing before the Grand Senate, too.
Three years ago, the ship I was on met an explosive end. I reposted to the Prima Vista. The vessel is the flagship of the Winchester Trading House. I never thought that Leopold, my firearms expert, found domestic life after the war. His wife, now deceased, was a wealthy merchant’s daughter from Valeena 4, a small moon colony surrounding a hydroelectric world near the centre of the Scara Braen territory. He inherited her empire, and with it, the captainship of the vessel I now call my home. The universe is smaller than I thought.
It is a rickety, well run, yet ageing vessel. Half of it is scavenged technology; most of it not legal for use by Trade family ships, and it is half-experimental or customised in design. At present, after gaining ground on its rivals, the Prima Vista is transporting building materials from the central processing plants to the border colonies where the fighting was fiercest. Leopold wants to aid the restructuring of the sector, and the redevelopment of the refugee camps filled with Raiaera’s populace, fleeing the continued temporal destruction of their home worlds.
The Administrate is moving to tie together its bonds around the trade families with its presence on the galactic senate. Its ships, glistening beacons of supposed ‘evolution’ are becoming more and more numerous. The number of arrests, for crimes perceived, is on the rise. Their ship’s captains are less trusting agents like me, and the use of A.R.I.A technology treated with suspicion, and in some cases, outright aggression. Dark times are ahead for Galaxy 492…Darker times are ahead for the crew of the Prima Vista…Sadly, as I am torn between friends and foe and uncertainty about which one is which, there times will be darker still for the schtum Duffy Lucius.
History Level One/Two: It would appear my piggy in the middle lifestyle has gotten the better of me. Leopold, it seems, decided upon himself to take out a loan from the bank of the galaxy’s biggest crook (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?25005-Unserenity-(Genre-Shift-Vignette)&p=208130#post208130), Rayse Valentino. Yeah. Great. The Rucker cost Leopold his freedom. He is currently in the hands of the Administrate (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?25615-A-Few-Good-Men-(Closed)&highlight=), and a little skirmish has broken out between the Company and the Ixian Knight/Winchester Rose trade family cooperative. As a side-effect to all this, the Prima Vista’s up shit creek, I’m currently 6000 years into the past for Sei ‘click his fingers come running’ Orlouge (http://www.althanas.com/world/showthread.php?26346-League-A-(Interdivision)-Agent-492-vs-Good-for-nothing-captain&highlight=Lucius), and I am sober. So. Sodding. Sober. Still…it is good to be home, right?
Skills: Duffy has a narrow, but focussed skillset. In the absence of abilities (which are gifted through technology, the skills below are augmented beyond conventional starting levels.
Espionage: Duffy can adeptly talk his way into and out of trouble, outwit other agents, and bluff with the best. He is a capable spy, able to infiltrate, replace, and tamper with data unseen and manipulate others to his ends.
Tracking: Duffy has an adept knowledge of flora and fauna, and how to move through a variety of M class planet terrain relatively unseen and unheard. When working alone, he can be undetectable, though has no long-term survival skills.
Knowledge (Computers): There is little Duffy does not know about computer systems, current and old, and their social and physical implications for modern society. He can repair and rebuild damaged systems, and fine-tune current builds.
Basic Training: Duffy has above average military training, is able to shoot straight, run fast, and carry himself effectively. He understands basic combat maneavours and communications methods. He knows a little strategy, as well.
Inventory: Lucius has personal effects. His clothing is provided by the Administrate, and his quarters are so seldom occupied, save for sleep, his keeps his items in storage. He is never without his A.R.I.A technology and firearm.
A.R.I.A: The Aria is a system of cybernetic implants, technological devices, and holographic interface panels that augment an Administrate operative. Its name comes from Active Reality Inversion Audio.
Uplink: Duffy can connect to computer networks and devices over great distances, this allows him to access information, transmit and download data. He can act as a bridge between sources in places otherwise out of range of conventional methods.
Hack: Using advanced encryption disruption, Duffy can visually traverse firewalls and other security, to gain access to, and control electronic devices. This is a synaptic ability, which can harm him if it fails. He cannot hack systems with organic parts.
Augment: Twice per thread, Duffy can augment his physical abilities using the charged batteries in his limbs. This gives him either X2 agility, or X2 strength, for the duration of 3 posts, or ten minutes (whichever is greater).
Project: (http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20091220072133/masseffect/images/5/5b/Tech_Armor_ME2.png) Using a force field generator Duffy can form armour. This appears as floating, holographic plating, which fluctuates with movement. It can deflect several energy weapon shots before being disabled and several normal strength physical blows.
Nexus Only:
Catechu Pistol: The Catechu is a Scarabrian design, offering robust parts, a firm grip, and an automatic recoil-dampening trigger. It fires single solid shell rounds, up to a maximum range of 1700 feet. Its effective penetration range is 800 feet.
