View Full Version : Garroth the Oath-Breaker

Garroth
06-13-14, 05:05 PM
Name: Ser Garroth Ankou
Age: Several millenia; 30 when imprisoned
Race: Human
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Gray
Height: 6'0
Weight: 200 lbs.
Occupation: Knight

Personality: A grim, brutal man, Garroth is incapable of empathy. His ruthless handling of anyone to get in his way, on or off the battlefield, earned him a feared and hated reputation- and repeated accusations of committing war crimes- before his imprisonment.

Appearance: Garroth stands at six feet. He's solidly built and his sallow skin is littered with scars, reminders of a hundred battles. His gray eyes seem almost somber, but his angular, hawk-like features are usually twisted into a sneer. Rarely seen outside of his armor and never without his sword, Garroth cuts a stern, imposing figure when not compared to his behemoth comrade Sung.

History:
Before the War of the Tap, Garroth was a knight and cleric sworn to defend crown and country. His healing abilities and fearsome skill in battle were used to defend his people from evil. They saw him as a paragon, a hero. When the dread voice of Aurion first reached their ears, it was Garroth they turned to. But the elf was cunning, and powerful: he whispered to the knight, promises and threats, until the warrior bent his knee. When Aurion marched upon the land, it was Garroth who served as his vanguard. He put his people to the sword, and was cursed for breaking his oath. His sword and his armor blackened to match his tainted soul; his healing powers were rent and twisted into an obscene mockery. Finally he was sealed away, left to rot for eternity with his comrades. Kept alive by his patron's magic, he has slumbered through the centuries, waiting to be awakened.

Skills:
Expert with a sword; well trained in the use of a shield
Well versed in combat tactics and strategy- especially strategy involving psychological warfare/intimidating the enemy
A student of history and lore
Knowledge of a variety of rituals, both benevolent and profane
Competent horseman
Familiar with the use of heavy armor, comfortable while wearing it
Falls easily into the leadership role; a natural at commanding troops through fear and intimidation

Abilities:
Blighted Touch: Garroth's accursed touch saps the vitality from his victim, draining their very life force. But his magic waned during his imprisonment, his strength ebbing away. At this level, flora will decay, while human targets will feel waves of nausea, dizziness, and fatigue. Can only be used once before he must regain his strength and rest.

Vile Endurance: Once, Garroth could weave his magic to make himself invulnerable. Now, with his power diminished and his magic twisted by darkness, the spell is a sad echo of its former self. While it lends the knight an astonishing fortitude, allowing him to ignore minor attacks completely and endure twice the kinetic force before being knocked from his feet, it lasts only a short time, and confers no magical protection against the actual damage being dealt. The effects last for two posts before fading, and can only be used once per thread.

Equipment:
He retains only the few possessions on his person when he was bound. He still wears his armor, tainted though it has become. Once gleaming steel of the highest quality, it is now blackened and brittle with age. Garroth's armor consists of a cuirass, pauldrons, greaves, and gauntlets of charred metal roughly the strength of iron.
His sword, from its double edged blade to its cruciform hilt, has also decayed throughout the age. Its blade is a smoky black, and the same quality as his armor.
Beneath the scraps of a cloak that should have degraded a millenia ago is a kite shield, worn slung across his back. Its wooden structure is rotted through, useless.
