History:
Iavas is from the Bestiis Empire, an Empire of legendary Speaking animals from the very south of Althanas, in a place as yet undiscovered. There are no people there, and there have never been any. All intelligent life that evolved was animal. There used be many nations, alone and individual, each of a different species, until Du’Rekavor the Great Elk-Lord waged war and took over the rest of the nations, taking all under the shadow of his antlers. Time passed, the nations flourished into a splendid empire, and have remained sustainable to this day as a solid world of true sustainability and magnificence.
Yet. Yet, some still are not comfortable with this idea of empire.
Once upon a time there was an Elk Prince, born to the cousin of the then Lord-Elk Emperor Da’Kuvan, and he had a heart different than the rest. He looked at what was a peaceful world and began to find fault with the littler pieces of sin that he saw, all acting against ancient laws of the natural land. He saw Mice farming by hand and wondered "why can we not use tools like the Eagles of the Freeze have spoken about, used by those far up north?" He saw justice being carried out by a single voice who was judge, jury and exectutioner and asked "why can we not listen to the criminals voice and hear what he has to say?" He saw the grand Elk Princes telling the other Speaking races what must be done under their name and asked, "Why must we rule the way we do? Why cannot every tongue have a say in how things work?"
And his father, the cousin to the Lord-Elk Emperor told him not to question such things, that it was the just way things were. That he should never question things, for it was not his place, that was the place of the gods. He was told that he could not change things, no one could, no matter what pain was in there heart, for tradition is tradition and the Bestiis are proud. When the Prince tried to speak out to the Lord-Elk he was disallowed at court and told to never show his face again, and that he was a shame to the royalty. For once one asks the wrong questions, they are asking to die.
And with that the young Elk Prince lay down and cried for two long days. It is said his tears were plentiful and filled a nearby valley with so much water that there is now a lake, and it is called the Lake of Sorrow.
After those two days the Elk Prince got up and he walked to his father. He told him that despite the fact he shared the pride in his great nation that he had to go, as he could not live in a world of sin, without being allowed to fight against it. He said that he would change the Bestiis Empire, and the way they dealt with other races by going to the legendary north and finding proof that other ways are possible. He took the title “Thran” that meant “Abandoning Prince” and gave away all claim to any Imperial power.
And thus, north he travelled, over ice and fields and through trees and valleys. He travelled for over a year, eating nothing but grass and drinking only from north-flowing streams, for that is where hope was. Eventually he came to a small holding, a house upon the edge of a vast plain, and in it he found an elf. A lonely elf, with white-blonde hair and a blank expression on his face, in which the Elk Prince dreamed he could find his hope.
Yet, this elf was was bright. He was not the intelligent creatures the Elk Prince had been looking for. He did not speak, only patted the Elk’s fur and smiled. After a while the Elk Prince lowered his back, staring straight into the eyes of the elf. The simple being that the elf was he climbed straight onto the proffered back, and the Elk Prince entered into his mind and controlled him - and has never once been left his mind.
He called him “Dwell,” for it was within him he dreamt his hope would dwell, and after a few attempts to awaken the man within the Elk Prince found that Dwell was damaged beyond repair. So he took him with him, and they went north. Thereupon they came across more places of inhabitants of elves, and the Elk Prince tried to approach and speak to them - but immediately they began hunting him. Knowing off “hunting” by the Wolves and Foxes of the Bestiis Empire the Elk Prince immediately backed away, and thought. He looked at Dwell for some time, then realised what prize he had found, and what use the elf would be to him.
Once more he approached the town, but with Dwell on his back and with him speaking, through Dwell. Now the people saw he was a tame animal they knew it was wrong to hunt the Elk Prince as he was a “mount,” and thus the Elk Prince was safe from human and elf and orc harm.
Now the Elk Prince travels the world of Althanas, searching for a new hope, stories of hope that might show that his country can change. He longs to return, some day, with those stories and teach his people the ways of morals. His heart is dark, and he will kill but only for a just cause, but his intentions are good. He is a born leader, with an elf who is his master in appearance but his slave in actuality.
Greetings. I am Iavas, the Thran.
Racial Traits:
Has antlers that are used for attack, defense and pushing back enemies. Can be broken if directly cut with a blade, any strike will create a wedge, much like if a bone was to be cut with a blade.
Has no opposable thumbs himself, but can use others to do tasks such as blacksmithing for him (See Puppetry)
His skull is especially thick and it is hard to penetrate, yet he still wears a helmet in battle.
Bestiis Elk possess a fairly vicious bite due to their strength and the size of their jaw.
Skills:
Expert level of tracking and survival. Eats only leaves, bark, berries and needs to only drink water. Can track almost any animal and being that has been through an area.
Antlers are Iavas’ main weapons. He uses them to swing and defend, and is well-rehearsed to an expert level in antler melee damage. He can also buck, using his hind legs.
Expert knowledge of herbs, plants and general botany. Can make many potions as it is what he studied before he became frustrated with Bestiis society. Uses Dwell for opposable thumbs etc, for the humanoid world has no tools for a Speaking Elk.
Speaks fluently in various languages including the "common tongue" that somehow found its way down to the Bestiis Empire, a lanuage of elks they call Cervidae, a variant of Fallien tongue that he learnt from the Eagles that fly as north as there, and also he is apt at picking up beastial languages, such as Faunish or Centaurian.
Abilities:
Puppetry-
In order to “survive” in a normal world Iavas has learnt the art of Puppetry. He is able to assert telepathic authority over very weak-willed individuals and essentially control what they do and say. This ability only works on non-heroes so can not be used on any other player characters, and it takes him at least four posts to fully insert his dominance over them. They must also have some traumatic past to weaken their hearts and allow him to enter. Main “puppet” is his white-haired elf companion (and familiar) Dwell, and years of their companionship has left Dwell fully controllable by Iavas. For now this includes very basic animals, such as pigeons and rats, and not those above a certain intelligence. In battle he can only take control of one animal, if they are in a setting that allows such. Cannot include other heroes familiars.
Strength -
As a racial trait Iavas has spectacular strength, x2 of that of any normal humanoid. He can hold back a man with his antlers, which themselves have never broken. He can stand his ground well, and buck also, which would send a being at least three feet flying.
Light Of Dawn -
For whatever reason, whether for his nobility or his courage in taking the title of Thran, Iavas was blessed with the ability to bend the element of light. Despite his “dark heart” he was gifted by the gods, which he claims is therefore proof his works are for good intentions, and he can currently twist light to be used in the following way - when using any of these his antlers glow with a strange dim white light and the object that is being summoned or enchanted is also bathed thusly:
A form of telekenesis THAT ONLY connects with things that fulfill the following criteria;
~ made of a thing that has bathed in sunlight for ten constant years (material or the thing itself)
~ has been constantly held for at least 24 hours by a creature that Iavas has full Puppetry control over
~ has been blessed by the Gods of Light via Iavas visiting one of their shrines and asking the item to be done so
The only object that currently fulfills these critera is a yew repeating crossbow called Enlightenment.
For now Dwell cannot be used in battle, only in quests as defence.
Equipment:
One iron sword and yew buckler shield for Dwell.
An iron front-piece helm for Iavas, that covers the top half of his skull and leaves the bottom jaw free.
Enlightenment - a yew repeating simple crossbow with 12 iron bolts.
Spare clothes for Dwell, rations for up to a week in saddle bags.
A large red comfy blanket.
Plenty of blackberries.
Familiar:
Dwell
Dwell is a hundred year old elf, who is a simple gentle soul, left upon the edge of the wild by his kin for his apparent stupidity. He is like a "Hodor" to place it in reference, from Game of Thrones, but not as big. Iavas has complete control over his actions and uses him as his avatar in life. There are rare moments when he separates himself from Dwell, and always does so to sleep, but connection is quickly made in a matter of practised seconds.
Appearance - Dwell is a 6ft tall High Elf with white-blonde hair down to his shoulder blades, blue eyes and a soft-spoken voice. He is usually dressed in simple robes of plain colour - blue or red or purple.
Skills - via Iavas; competent swordsman using an iron shortsword and a yew buckler shield.
without Iavas; gentle kindness to anything that passes by.
