Liam

Name: Liam Conan Duigenan
Age: 37
Race: Human
Height: 5'12''
Weight: 172 lbs.
Occupation: Warlock
Right-Handed.
Personality: When considering Liam, the first word to come to mind for most people is odd. A fiery, impressionable man who could charm and influence his enemies with a silver tongue, Liam lives each moment as if it were his last and is said to be utterly fearless. Courage might be a word for it, daft might be another. Liam drinks, smokes and indulges in whatever earthly delights that might come his way. For a man who is so reckless and full of bravado, Liam is cold, calculating and utterly ruthless when he is pitted against someone else. Every fight is a fight to the death, and after his time among tribes in dark, forlorn places, Liam has a penchant for more brutal methods in punishing his enemies. As rough around the edges and utterly mortal in his ambitions, Liam is an ally you want on your side. He is loyal beyond reproach, willful, and a man who lives hard and does whatever possible to see an end by whatever means. After all, who would make a better ally against an unstoppable foe than a man who possesses an indomitable will? Liam is a learned man and loves books, scrolls and anything he can read that might advance his purpose. He is a man of many traits, talents and skills, but a master of very few.
Appearance: When you think of an individual who wields magic, you would not think of Liam Duigenan in a million years. Nope, not ever. He doesn't wear a pointed hat or robes, or wields a staff that is a projection of his power. Any indication that he is your atypical wizard is utterly false. For a short man, Liam stands tall and proud. He has a definite presence that inspires his friends and can cow his enemies. He is a stout man with fiery, red hair that is often neatly parted and slicked back. When in the city, great care is taken in his appearance with trousers, a shirt, suspenders and jacket. Perhaps even a crimson tie for show. But when in the wilds and in the frontier, he dresses the part with brown leather boots, tough black trousers and a faded, cornflower blue cotton shirt that is held up by suspenders and a long, black jacket that goes to his knees. Liam wears a dark brown Stetson which is said to be his namesake. For all those who thought he might be a wizard, the man could often be mistaken for a tough, no-nonsense pioneer who seeks to shape the frontier and tame Nature.
Liam has a strong, square jawline and bushy red eyebrows with a rough, scarred face that looks like that of a seasoned boxer. He often grows a red, neatly trimmed beard and looks out in the world through hooded, pale blue eyes that are often shadowed by the contours of his face and a forehead that makes him look like a curmudgeon. Whatever Liam does not carry on his horse is carried in a pack, satchel or pockets. A fierce, savage fighter, Liam fights with an axe and club, and carries a long knife that rests on his waist.
History: Liam travels Althanas with his wife, Ada, and his paramour, Olivia. Both Ada and Olivia are practicing witches. The Duigenan Coven also moves with Liam's four children between the two women; Fiona, 16 ; Maeve, 14 ; Vance, 10 ; Teague, 1. Liam travels with his family across the world, and spends much of his time when not exploring by beating back suitors who would like to bed his teenage daughters. Liam's polygamous marriage often confuses people in big cities and Liam, Ada and Olivia learned quickly to leave such topics out of friendly conversation. Liam's family is nomadic, and all three parents take it upon themselves to endow their children with lessons they've learned over the years and formally educate them so that they might embark out into the world prepared.
Skills:
Learned: Before departing for the wilds in an intimate attempt to understand and master Nature, Liam studied in schoolhouses and a university in Corone in a wide array of studies. Though he never completed his studies after being expelled for too many fights among his peers, Liam took whatever he learned and used it to advance his own knowledge. Liam is a quick study and much of his education nowadays is self taught. While not gifted, Liam is a skilled man whose hungry intellect caused him to seize his wanderlust and explore the unknown reaches of what Althanas has to offer when his nose is not in a book.
Equestrian: By domesticating Jerome and riding him for many years, Liam has picked up numerous skills to ride and care for his horse. He is an adept rider and works with his horse to push him to speeds and distances that could win him races should he choose to compete.
Savage: Liam spent many years in different parts of Althanas and on just about every continent, save the Elvish. Much of his time was spent in the frontier and wilds, and rarely in the cities. Liam befriended tribes, clans and villages of natives upon the fringes of society and used whatever means he could to glean their knowledge and learn from them. While this enlightenment has given Liam a much better understanding of Nature and a mastery of it through means not widely known by conventional society, it has come at a dark price. Liam has spent so much of his life outside of the city and among his own people that the crude, savage habits of many tribal civilizations have embedded themselves in him. It has in such a way that what Liam might consider a normal way of punishing a thief or resolving a dispute would be considered utterly barbaric by civilized folk. This rift between him and his own people has left Liam a pioneer and explorer skilled in savagery and survival that makes him utterly unpredictable and wild to others.
Brute: Liam is often heavy handed when he fights, and he fights to the bur. With a barrel chest and wide upper body, Liam pummels his enemies. He fights with a sophisticated, learned boxer style that is mixed with certain fighting techniques he must have learned on his travels.
Warlock: Liam has studied magic since he was a teenager and while in his early days in Radasanth's university he belonged as a fellow to some magus societies, much of what he learned until he departed for the fringes of the world were out of tomes, were observed from others or were self-taught. In fact, Liam's style of magic would often confuse conventional magi because it comes from crude means. Liam manifests the elements through himself or his weapons and his primal mastery of Nature causes him to use sorcery that often lacks the need for an invocation or a style of hand magic that is often recognized in most academies. Liam instead often relies on reagants, alchemy, physical objects or his spirit or those of others to practice magic. This makes his spells hard to predict or even counter except for those who have explorer traits and they too have traveled the wilds.
Abilities:
Elemental Mastery: Liam has acquired the ability through his studies and exploration of the fringes of Althanas to channel and manifest the elements of fire, earth, and wind. While he is adept at doing this, Liam must have a physical object, or totem, to channel an element into and manifest. This could be his body, his weapons or anything that is a tangible object that he comes in physical contact with. The possibilities of what he can do with this are endless. Whether it be to cause the stone edge of his tomahawk to grow red hot to inflict damage on his enemies or to cause a lock to freeze to keep it from being picked, Liam can use the elements however he chooses. This is at his own expense, for this activity requires energy and too much of it can exhaust Liam or even cause him to lose consciousness. Until he learns to practice magic without a physical object to conduit his power, Liam's manifestation of the elements will remain limited. Totem Magic.
NOTE: This ability is limited to 12 uses, approx. 2 posts per day.
Equipment/Weapons:
Tomahawk - A gift given to him by a shaman of one of the native tribes he lived with for years in the dark, unfathomable countries to the west that no longer bear a name, this Tomahawk is very old, and is said to pass from generation to generation of shaman in their tribe. Though Liam is often vague in the circumstances of how he came by such an heirloom, he only elaborates that upon his departure, the tribe was waging war and losing with its neighbors over territory and darker reasons. The shaman knew they would not survive the next day, and instead sought to bestow one of their honored guests with one of their greatest gifts. The tomahawk is called 'Kal'Amarung' in its native tongue. It looks to be well taken care of by its owner with a wooden handle wrapped, in boiled brown leather and horse sinew holding the sharp stone head and its pointed end in place. This weapon is said to hum with power and something Liam has used to channel and manifest the elements. While not unbreakable, the stone of this weapon is the equivalent of iron.
Red War Club - This was not a gift, but a trophy Liam took from the cold, dead fingers of one of the barbarians who raided his camp when he dwelled in Skavia, Salvar's native northern wastes. He also took his ear and scalp for troubling him. This club is made of thick oak and it's entire body curves into a rounded head meant to crush the heads of its enemies. This club is engraved in old runes along its body that once known and spoken by the man who carved them, offers some degree of protection or blessing by old, Salvarian gods. Liam was never really able to translate the words, but in his grip he can feel the stirrings of dormant power. The club is decorated in long, red feathers and bits of metal and other charms Liam has acquired over the years. The wood is thought to be that of oak..
Long Knife - A long, curved knife that is made of plied iron, its dark, rough hue often belies its savage intention. It's handle is wrapped in black, boiled leather. The blade remains sharp, oiled and well taken care of. Liam uses this knife for everything, but doesn't eat off it any more. When asked, he says he's scalped too many people with it and it makes him feel creepy. The knife rests in a sheath on his hip or hidden in one of his boots when the occasion calls for it.
Pack - A survival pack that contains anything Liam might need whether it be books, scrolls, maps, compasses, rations, or a bedroll. Liam keeps this on his horse, but on long journeys without him, Liam will carry this himself. It is made of old, tough brown cowhide leather and is capacious with many pockets and compartments.
Journal - One of many, these leatherback, yellowed tomes contain all of Liam's studies, journeys and explorations of Althanas. Though Liam knows much of this himself, he finds a need to record all of his experiences to one day pass on to others when he grows old. This tome contains written maps, spells and anything Liam has acquired over his many sojourns into the wild.
Familiar - Jerome - A mustang whose blood is traced back to the royal stable houses of an emirate in Fallien. This horse was raised from a colt in Corone by a beloved friend of Liam who died of fever at her ranch years ago. Upon finding his friend's remains when visiting her, in his grief Liam freed all the mustangs except Jerome, who Liam fought with and broke over the course of three long, bloody days. Jerome is sleek and entirely black except for a white, wintery mane and white hair along his hooves. Jerome is especially fierce, and in his black, pitiless eyes you can see his bright, wild spirit. In fact, Liam and Jerome fight for control at times in direction of travel. Liam considers Jerome to be a reliable nuisance, but would never call himself a master to such a fierce, proud animal.
Equipment; Iron horseshoes, brown saddle and bit, and two saddlebags.
