So, here's a thing. (http://www.spreaker.com/user/6196586/whatevercast-episode-000)

Megan and I have struck out on our own into the deep end of the podcasting pool with our new show, titled Whatevercast.

I've uploaded and posted a test episode to get feedback on. Over the next couple of weeks, we're going to be hammering out the kinks in the format and stuff before we go "live" and start publishing on RSS feeds and stuff.

I would love and appreciate any feedback you can give on this.

Ok, I have donned the hat of judgement, the cap of criticism, the fedora of feedback.

I should start by saying that I am not an avid postcast listener. I listen to the Althanas ones, but not really anything else. I do stream radio, but I know that is quite different. Take then my 2c with a grain of salt.

The first thing that struck me was a lack of reference to what you both would be talking about. I know that you want it to be a sort of 'whatever' show, but I am not sure if that is really going to hold an audience. I get the feeling you will be mostly be talking about movies, books and your lives, but if you are going to rely on your personalities to get people to listen, then you will need a few episodes to get that going. I've listened to you both a lot, so I'm like, 'cool, they'll have a back and forth, Megan will crack a joke about touching, Andy gets mildly defensive before just accepting it'. I know that you both have good chemistry, but that is what keeps people listening longer term, in the short run I'd say you need some more structure around what it is you'll be talking about. The only time I got that was 'what are you reading' and that was great. I'm not sure if that means you need segments, or just need to get stuff going and find that a few shows in.

I'm not a podcast listener, so maybe I am missing the point, but I kind of felt like I was eavesdropping on a couple if friends having a conversation. That's good and all, but it didn't feel like something that would engage an outsider. I think you need a hook.

The lack of a general structure has been the biggest point of contention with everyone I've spoken to who has listened to the practice run so far.

I'm talking with Megan today about making it a single-subject podcast, to give the show some focus. It'll probably be on books, since that's the biggest interest we share that we can have solid discussions on (she's not nearly as big a gamer as I am, and I get bored easily by anime and movies).

I don't plan on going "live" for a few weeks, so we're gonna' hammer out the kinks and try and make it a better, more cohesive show before then.

Thanks, everyone!
