Red Ruby
11-26-14, 11:18 AM
Basics
Name: Rachel Wessen
Nickames: "Ruby" (Common)
Age: 28
Race: Human
Hair Color: Brunette
Eye Color: Dark Grey
Height: 5' 7"
Weight: 145 lbs
Occupation: Thief
Personality:
Sarcastic, sly, misleading, witty, determined, and forward. Rachel is the type of woman to string together sweet words with a smile only to slip her fingers into your coin-purse. She'll wrap you up in a conversation to get just enough information on her next hit and leave you to drown your loneliness in alcohol. She finds no comfort in the presence of men unless they prove useful to the heist or an easy target for quick cash. Generally one to avoid violence, Rachel will pull a knife to speed up "business transactions". She's silver tongued, to the point, and someone you'd want on your side. Unless you enjoy poverty...
Appearance:
Athletic, sleek, and built like a rock (https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7475/15690350210_cd70963f6c_o.jpg). In a world dominated by muscular thugs and vigilantes, Rachel has toned herself to focus on efficiency over power. She's flexible and just the right amount of strong. She's also learned the value of a woman's body as a distraction to the lesser minds. Thusly, she enjoys wearing garments that moderately expose her midriff and chest. Paired with reds, golds, and silver, Rachel enjoys the extravagant. For a thief, she prefers the forward approach and rarely dons the cloak to her dagger. Her brunette hair is long but usually tied up or braided. When the sun catches it just right, it shines a fiery red.
Skills
Pointy Persuasion:
Rachel favors knives, daggers, and otherwise small pointy weapons. Though she knows they provide less effectiveness against a knight, warrior, or soldier, she also knows the value of a well placed poke. The girl is never without a weapon and to consider her disarmed is always a large underestimation. Is she skilled with them? Only one way to find out.
Take it Off:
Who wears their coin on their hip? Maybe bound by some leather chord? Or maybe you tuck it in your shirt? How about some coins in your pocket? Regardless, Rachel has a knack for finding your money and making it "accessible". She'll even take your pants or shirt if need be. Wherever you wear your valuables, a flick of the blade or some swift finger play will change ownership. She wants it? She'll get it. So just take it off and hand it over before she does it for you. Walking around town without pants happens to be a common nightmare for a reason.
Free Running or Running to Stay Free?:
The law can be a pesky problem. This is especially true when the city guard is on your heels with pointy sticks. How do you fix that? Don't get caught. Truth is, those government trained, armor wearing officials love flat ground. For those that know how to navigate heavily obstructed terrain as though it were empty plains, the law is better off giving up before they try. Rachel isn't abnormally fast, but she is resourceful. Up, over, under, and through, she will get from point A to point B faster than you. Especially if you wear plate mail and use the word "halt!" on a regular basis.
Paise this Appraisal!:
When you see something shiny, it's not always valuable. How do you know? Trial and error mostly with a touch of experience and research. Rinse and Repeat. After having lived this long on the streets on other people's goodies, one develops an eye for the good or the bad. Rachel can spot gold from pyrite, silver plated copper from solid sterling, and precious gems from alchemical knock offs. How to you measure the worth of a man? Well, ask her and she'll tell you within 10 sovereigns give or take. Most likely, take.
Language:
Foul. Sometimes just plain rude. Occasionally sweet as honey. Rachel is silver tongued and can sweet talk the stupid to believing themselves geniuses or the intelligent into believing themselves fools. She'll put you through the paces with her lips and not in a way you'll want to remember. As a bonus, she can do it in three languages: Trade, Salvan, and Coronian. Lucky you.
Sleight of Hand or Magic?:
It's definitely not magic. Rachel is inept at the stuff. She couldn't sling a fireball to save her life. In fact, it's not that she's unskilled, but something about her is shut off to magic. She'll never know the feeling of it in her veins. Unless, that is, she's obtained a doo-dad that will do it for her. Rachel can't siphon off the Tap, but when you have goodies that do it for you, why bother? Generally, she's wary of those toting spells left and right, but there are artifacts for that problem too.
What's a "Lock"?:
Puzzles. That's all they are really. Most of them aren't even that good or interesting. Some are just outright laughable. Rachel sees locks as time consumers. It's not a question of if but a question of when. You want to keep something safe from her fingers? You're better off throwing it into a pit of snakes. Magic might work, but those are mostly just puzzles that glow.
Abilities
I Swear I Had More Than This...:
You don't want to get in a fight with Rachel. Maybe you do. She can be a bitch after all. Just keep an eye on your pockets if you decide to take her on. Chances are, you'll feel lighter when it's over and not from blood-loss either.
- Improved Rewards: Rachel earns 5% more GP from completed threads.
Twinkle Toes:
Rachel is a loud mouth when you get her started, but she also knows how important it is to sneak around. Sometimes you need to evade the big bad guards, sometimes the wife came home early, or maybe she just needed to pinch your wallet without you knowing about it. Don't bother listening for her, you won't hear her coming.
- Movement Perk: Rachel's footsteps do not make a sound. Glass, fallen leaves, twigs, Nuggetchop's tail... Yeah, she's just that good.
They Call Me Ruby:
In her time spent up in Salvar, Rachel acquired a certain artifact from a certain group of racists that helps her deal with a certain group of people. It is called "The Etherbane Ruby". She lifted it from the Church of The Etherial Sway after slithering her way into the favor of a few powerful Witch Hunters. At first she liked it because it was big, shiny, and locked up under heavy security. To her, that was a open invitation to test her skill. Needless to say, the bastards still think they have it, but what sits in the case now is some cheap replica. Good news too, because the one she now wears is magic. Er... the bane of magic?
"The Etherbane Ruby (https://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7370/9275363165_c6a609fa22_z.jpg)" ((Cannot be sold or traded)): A ruby about the size of an egg, and known for its ability to nullify magic. She wears this on her chest and it has the passive ability to nullify magic within a limited field. The catch? It only nullifies magic within a five foot diameter, just barely covering her from head to toe. Spells like fireballs, arcane bolts, lightning, etc have no effect. However, if someone were to light a column of fire around her or summon a blizzard, the spell would overwhelm the limited protection and do her in. Fire balls, ice doves, bolts of lightning, they don't stand a chance. Firewalls, blizzards, deadly fogs... well it can only do so much. Just... if you need magic to live, don't hug her. That'd be a bad idea.
- Magic Defense: Nullifies single target, single impact spells such as fireballs, ice projectiles, electric bolts, etc. This does not effect enchanted items, prolonged/extended damage, or AOE spells. For these, she may have a second or two before burnt, liquefied, exploded, frozen, or whatever devious demise gets through. Is your sword enchanted to always be on fire? That'll make it through. Laser eyeballs? Yep, that piercing gaze will melt her heart. Cone of frost? Let's hope he's wearing a jacket. Point is, you'll need more than a little fireball to warm this girl's heart. Oh and if you want to curse her for eternity or pull the wool over her eyes, this little gem will keep at least one link of the chain weakened. And well... you're only as good as your weakest link...
- Weakness: Speaking of, this boy's weak link is he can only perform four (4) times a day. After that, he's just another pretty rock until he gets his beauty sleep.
