View Full Version : Gentle Soul, Tainted

Killian Aster
10-08-06, 03:52 PM
Name: Killian B’luth’ol Aster
Age: 140 (appears in early 20s)
Race: Elf
Hair Color: White
Eye Color: Green & White
Height: 6’6
Weight: 250lbs
Occupation: Holistic Medicine Healer

Personality: At his core, Killian is a kind and gentle, family-oriented Elf. He has a great love for those around him, but he also carries a passion for nature and all of its inhabitants and beauty. However, he also is not afraid to protect that which he loves, and is willing to fight as hard as his body will allow him to do so. A gentle soul tainted, Killian also has wild and spontaneous side to his personality. He is very eccentric and has a very strong claustrophobia that also includes dark and cold spaces. The years he spent in captivity had a very strong effect on his mental being, and he still has nightmares about it; however, he does not want to pretend as if it did not happen. Therefore, he wears many chains in his outfit as a symbol of his experience. But, thanks to the amazing healing powers of his mother and the genuine love and affection of both his parents, he has been able to overcome the silence and intense fear that once consumed him and has reverted, for the most part, to the gentle elf he used to be.

Appearance: Killian has wild, spiked, white hair that is about shoulder length. He wears it naturally, letting it fall wherever it falls. He has the face of a young child with smooth features and clear skin that carries a light tan. His eyes are forest green, but they have white streaks that resemble the wind and run horizontally through his iris. He is quite tall, with a lean body frame made almost completely of muscle, with very little body fat.

His outfit consists of a black jacket, closed at the top but open near his waist to reveal washboard abs. There is a red, rubber-like material that is attached to parts of both arms on the jacket and the collar of the jacket is left unfolded, covering Killian’s neck. He wears black cargo pants held up by a red belt made of the same material on his jacket. He also wears a red headband of that material. He also has two iron chains on his pants: on the left side, a medium sized chain hangs from his belt buckles down to his pocket; on the right side, a similar chain hangs from his belt buckle down to his black combat boots, where the other side of the chain is attached to one of the lace holes. Killian also has several rings on each finger and has a chain bracelet on his left wrist. Also, he wears the two medals he won in Archery tournaments attached to the belt buckle closest to his left waist, the buckle behind the one that holds the chain.

His quiver is always on his back, and his sword is usually found on his right waist being held in place by his belt. He keeps his medicine kit on a utility belt that is strapped around his waist; however, the utility belt is loose so that it hangs below his red belt.

History: Born into a well-to-do family who lived in a small village hidden within one of the many forests smattered across Raiaera. His father, B’luth’Ol, made a good living making maps of the different regions and his mother, Rin, was an esteemed healer, both in the village they lived in and the neighboring city. The early years of Killian’s life were peaceful, but things soon turned sour.

When he was only a hundred years old, a very young age for Elves, Killian was kidnapped by a group of pirates. Planning to use Killian as a hostage, they tried to extort a map out of his father that supposedly revealed the location of a highly valuable treasure somewhere in the mountains north of their village. However, despite the risk of losing his own son’s life, B’luth’Ol insisted that a map did not exist and if it did, he had no knowledge of it. This was indeed the truth, but the bandits weren’t buying it. They threatened to take Killian’s life, but in the end, they weren’t brave enough to do it. So, instead, they carted him off to a village even smaller than his own hometown that rested high atop a mountain in the northern region of Raiaera. Keeping him here for the rest of their lives (they were human and weren’t cultured enough to realize he was Elven), torture and abuse spelled out the days that passed by for Killian. A very trying experience, the death of his capturers signaled his own liberation. But the experience had left an everlasting impression on the young Elf.

After roaming around for a couple of years, he eventually ran into his own village, completely by accident. Having been traveling in a sort of daze, unsure of what was going on and where or what he was supposed to do next, he didn’t even realize it was his old village until he ran into his parents. Because of the slow aging of Elves, they all looked the same, so there was an instant click when Killian’s mother laid eyes upon her long-lost son. They reveled in their son’s return, but were soon devastated to learn that, in the process, he had lost part of his soul.

They took him back home and nursed him back to health, which wasn’t a problem considering his mother’s unique talents. After many years, they finally felt they were truly reunited with their son, as he reverted back to the old, cheery boy he had once been. But, there would forever be something off about him, and it would surface in obscure parts of his life.

Skills:
- Literature - After his mother helped him through the physical healing process, his father taught him to express himself through writing. As a result of innate ability and his father’s own ability at teaching the power of the written word, Killian is a literary genius, able to write profound pieces of prose and literature.
- Geography – Another skill passed down from his father, Killian has a good familiarity with the lands of Raiaera. He is able to traverse even the most remote of areas in the region, but his knowledge withers the farther from Raiaera he travels.
- Archery – When he was a youth, Killian and his father would take hunting trips in the forests of Raiaera. It was during these trips that B’luth’Ol noticed a natural proficiency in the art of Archery in Killian. Afterwards, hunting trips were replaced with lessons on how to better Killian’s skill with the bow and arrow, and eventually, he surpassed his father in ability, though he is still a below average archer. However, he does have a few medals that he wears attached to his belt buckles.
- Swordplay – After surpassing his father’s skill in archery, and could be taught nothing else, his father decided to teach Killian all he knew about swords, though it was very limited. As a result, Killian has minor abilities with his sword.

Abilities:
- Natural Empathy – Killian has a spiritual connection with nature that allows him to use nature’s gifts as a tool for his own betterment. At level 0, he can only use his ability for making low-level holistic medicines and slightly-paralyzing poison with herbs and plants he finds in the forests at Raiaera.
{When he levels up, he’ll be able to make higher level medicines/poisons and eventually be able to actually call upon the spirits of nature to do his bidding.}

Equipment:
- Medicine Kit – The catalyst of his natural abilities, the kit includes a few small vials and a masher, which is a small wooden block used for smashing plants and leaves into little pieces.
- Wooden Bow – An average sized Bow carved from the Evergreen trees in the forest regions of Raiaera.
- Quiver of Arrows – The quiver is made of the same wood used for the shafts of his arrows and the strap is of the same rubber-like material found on his jacket, only it’s brown rather than red.
He carries with him several types of arrows:
- Standard Arrow – (20) - An arrow with a wooden shaft and iron arrowhead.
- Poison Tipped Arrow – Killian has applied a debilitating poison to the tips of these arrows using his skills in holistic medicine; however the poison only has a slight paralysis effect.
- Hollowed Arrow – (5) - The shaft in these arrows have been hollowed to allow for faster and lengthier shots. Primarily used for long-range attacks and sniping.
- Heavy Shot – (5) - The shaft is made of iron rather than wood; these have a stronger punch, but because of the weight, these can only be used for short-medium range shots.{As a rule, Killian only carries the standard and hollowed arrows with him. He applies the poison when necessary and leaves the heavy shots when he knows they will be used.}
- Broadsword – A sword passed down from his father, the blade of this sword is curved slightly and the blade only runs a length of about 12 inches. Made of iron, the sword is mainly used for back-up and short-range combat, as Killian has very limited prowess with it.

Familiars: Because of his spiritual connection with nature, Killian has a gravitational effect on the animals in the forests that surround his village. Having given many of them names, he has many animal friends, but there is one that he uses primarily and he considers his true “pet”:

- Rhan – An eagle that resides in the southern-most forest region of Raiaera, Rhan is Killian’s personal “eye in the sky”. Useful for navigation and scouting purposes, Rhan is one of Killian’s best friends and most loyal companions. He has a short, black beak and bright yellow eyes. His wings and backside are dark brownish, while his chest and belly are much paler. His legs are black like his beak, as is the short hairs that sit upon his head in a sort of tiny Mohawk.

Near-mastery of archery is far beyond what we allow at level 0. He needs to be a below average marksman if you want to keep his other skills an items. This may be reason to shave off some years from his life, because I realize justifying a lack of skill in a 500-year-old elf is tough. I made my 127 year old Drow's time in a cave become my reasoning for his limited abilities.

You need to keep an inventory of your arrows, so when you run out, you buy more. Lucky you, Raiaera has the cheapest and most efficient arrows, and your character is from there ;) Start out with 20 normal arrows and 5 each of the others, or some balance like that.

Lmao, I was so concerned about adding enough detail to everything, I totally blanked on the numbers!! Anyway, I changed what you asked me to, shaved a couple centuries off his age, and lowered his skill in archery. BTW, I didn't add a number next to the poison-tips because he applies the poison to a standard arrow, he doesn't keep pre-made poison tips.
