View Full Version : An Angel fallen from Heaven...

Rinoa
10-09-06, 10:05 AM
Name: Rinoa Rulinharia
Age: 116 (looks 17)
Race: Avariel (Winged Elves)
Hair Color: Navy Blue
Eye Color: Navy Blue
Height: 5'5"
Weight: 98lbs
Occupation: Healer/Mage

Personality: Rinoa is a kind, caring, and compassionate girl. With a tender loving heart. Sometimes seeming a bit naive, she will go out of her way to aid those in need. Having no qualms about sacrificing herself for the good of another. Far too trusting she easily is tricked and manipulated by those of cunning. Which is usually why she always seems to be in such bad situations without really trying. All and all an extremely likable person who seems to even warm the hearts of the most foul and cruel of this world.

Appearance: She is a lovely girl with elegant elven features. Her figure is slender, petite, and defined. Walking with the graceful steps of the elves, you would believe she was just another beautiful elf, without further examination. But her hair is like blue crystal, glistening in the sun like the ocean itself. With those eyes that match exactly with her silky floating hair. Yet her most obvious features which shows she is no ordinary elf. Is her large feathery white wings, each with a wingspan of about ten feet. Wings that are in similarity to that of a swan's when unfolded completely. With this easy discovery other deductions can be made of her anatomy. Her bones are hallow like a birds, making her lighter and aiding in the ability of flight. Her body is also able to handle the high altitudes and drives while flying. Using her feet as tail wings to control her direction. She is perfectly designed for flight. Of course her bones being so frail are easily broken, but her body heals rapidly to fix such issues. She also can reduce the size of her wing span to about a quarter easily hidding them under large cloaks.

Profile of Avariel: The avariel are very rare in Althanas, since they have been hunted nearly to extinction by various dragons. Avariel remain in any number in only one place—the floating city of Luci'endar, a citadel of arcane might which floats high above the world. A place as mysterious as it is magical. Often confused with celestials "angels" these winged elves have no divine power, and are not messengers of the gods. They harness their strength from the pool of the arcane arts. Known for creating vast enchantments of amazing and uncanny abilities.
Avariel are graceful and striking, standing as tall as most humans, though they appear even more fine-boned than their landborn elven kin. Their features are more chiseled, more angular, their eyes larger, and golden, azure, blue, emerald, or rich hazel. The hollow bones that enable them to fly make them frail, though their chests and shoulders are strong, powering their magnificent eagles' wings. Their plumage is usually the purest of whites, though blacks and greys are known, and their hair is white, black, or more rarely, blue or silver. Like other elves, they have no facial or body hair. They prefer simple, loose clothing that does not impede their wings, usually in pale white, grey, or silver.

Avariel are a proud people, aloof to the affairs of the world, save when such concerns impact upon their own lives. Of all the elven races, the avariel are the most serious-minded, and can even be ruthless when necessity dictates, but are just as appreciative of beauty, creativity, and the natural world, but their greatest joy by far, is that of flight. Even when not soaring through the heavens, they can be seen with a far-off look in their eyes. Their love of the unbounded sky is matched only by their discomfort of enclosed spaces, and the avariel suffer from crippling claustrophobia. Despite an aloofness that can astound even other elves, avariel rarely exhibit the haughtiness and arrogance many have come to associate with elvenkind, though they pity all races lacking the ability to fly

Rinoa's History: High above in the clouds is where the young avariel grew and learned. With her loving and adoring family of caring individuals. Her father a captain of the royal guard, and a weapon's master of the highest order. Her mother a high mage on the council of the arcane. Being of noble birth she received the best education and responsibilities for a youngling. Constantly under pressure to be as great a wizard as her mother. Of course her life would change one day by being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

She attend classes at the city's academy for the nobility. Which happens to be located just next to the palace. It seemed like a regular casual day to her, just like any other day. Filled with laughter and fun with her classmates. Her mother had asked her to come to the palace and bring her a tome from the school library that day. Which of course Rinoa did without question and made her way to the High Council Chambers. Once there she found the door to the room locked, and sat on a small bench right outside to wait for her mother.
While waiting she heard a strange noise from the adjacent door. Sounding something like a female voice in an almost screeching nature. Out of pure curiosity she opens the door to the room. To find a very graphic scene with the queen and her lover. In absolute shock she is frozen staring at the scene. Rinoa recognizes the male to be a member of the high council. An individual who was rumored to have plans to overthrow the monarchy. Of course these two could not have a witness to such an affair. So they kidnapped Rinoa using there far superior arcane might. With that they cast Rinoa into a frozen state within a large frozen sapphire crystal. Throwing her from the isle to hide their dark intensions.

Rinoa in her frozen state would fall under the water right off the beaches of Corone. It would be ten years before the spell would wear off and she would be released from her crystal prison. Washed ashore by the waves she would wake to an unfamiliar place and in an unfamiliar world. Lost and alone, this would be the start of her adventurers.

Skills and Abilities:

Apprentice Mage: She has very limited knowledge in the arcane arts. Only being able to create very limited spell effects. Still a student by far she has a long way to go before she will be gain any real power. Listed below are the few spells she knows and is effective in.

Arcane Missile: She has the ability to fire a sphere of magical energy, which follow and fly at her target. It is weak and will only stun of shock her enemy enough to escape.

Gust of Wind: Creating strong currents of wind to help her flight speed of to throw dust and simple debris such as small rocks. Of course such projectiles will rarely kill anyone.

Solar Flash: She can blind and confuse her foes in order to escape. The effects are self-explanditory.

Arcane Shield: Possible her most effective spell, she can create a shield around her body from a few seconds at a time. Defending her from non-magical attacks of any physical sort. Such as a sword, arrow, and even a incrediable forceful shock. Quite a draining spell if she leaves it up longer than a few moments. Possibly killing her if she keeps it up beyond more than five minutes.

Healing Powers: being a noble she has natural healing powers. Able to mend and repair minor or average wounds of others. By placing her hands over the wounded area. A golden light comes over the wound and will mend simple fractures, deep cuts, and burns, and clear the lungs. Of course the use of this ability is also quite draining. If prolonged it can be just as fatal if not more so than her arcane sheild.

Healing Factor: As an avariel she has a natural healing factor. Her body is light and fragile due to her hallow bones. So her body compensated this with the ability to regenerate. Small cuts and wounds heal over a few moments. For large gashes and openings take ten to fifteen minutes. While the loss of a limb or a wing takes months to regenerate. Of course this ability is only as good as the she is healthy. Easily effected by Althanas disease and harsh weather conditions.

Gifted Intelligence: She is extremely intelligent when it comes to books and study. Having a photographic memory and the ability to learn quickly. Of course in turn she has not a shred of common sense.

Avariel Elven Vision: Rinoa can see twice as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of poor illumination. She retains the ability to distinguish color and detail under these conditions. Also Rinoa's vision is akin to that of a giant eagle, able to discern details on objects up to a mile away

Ability to Fly: Her large white wings give her the ability to fly. Just like a bird she can soar into the air. Usual using the wind to glide rather than to flap her wings. Reaching about a top speed of no more than fourty miles an hour. Perhaps in the hundreds when diving. Due to being incased in a stagnate state for ten years. Her wings are quite weaker than the average avariel. So reaching heights greater than two-hundred feet under her own power is an almost impossible challenge. This same lack of strength handicaps here time in the air without rest. Even just gliding she can stay flying for no more than ten to twenty at a time. Until she has properly healed and stretched her wings.

Weapons and Items:

Amulet of the Stars: Her only possession besides the clothes on her back. Is this amulet that can read the stars. This enchanted item is all she has to find her home of Luci'endar. It will also guide someone into the right direction to whatever they are searching for. Sort of a compass to just about any place. You must only speak its name and it will lead you.

Arcane shield seems rather strong for a level 0 spell. I have one similar, but got it much later. Rather than remove it, I'll ask you to use it very sparingly, such as once in a quest or a battle. It should really, really exhaust her by the time the shield goes down.

Healing Powers to restart the heart? :o That seems a bit much. Healing is something that is pretty much, shall I say, gimped in the early levels. Just get rid of the restarting of the heart, and put in a note that this spell is very tiresome and thus she cannot use it often.

Small cuts and wounds healing instantly is too good. Have it take a few moments for a very shallow cut to heal naturally, and perhaps ten minutes for deeper wounds.

Flying needs to be limited to only a certain height for now, and only for a short amount of time.

You're good besides that. Lots of edits because you have many skills :)

Well, I fixed the problems! :) I just have a couple of questions.

1.) How high a level do I have to be to regain full flight potential?

2.) Whats the best way to get into the RP game with others on this forum?

I realize your flight is important... Sorry it needed to be edited. Depending on how you level up, since you choose what to make more powerful, you could have full flight at level 1, which would be about 4 or 5 completed quests. Upgrading to full, uninhibited flight would mean you could upgrade maybe two of your spells, or add two new ones, but that's about it. If you upgraded flight slowly, you'd be able to upgrade more spells per level and such. Really, it all depends on the other updates you make.

Make an introduction thread. The intro forum is a subforum for one of our social discussion areas, I'm not sure which one :p Say you're looking for some questing buddies, and you'll find some real quick. You could also PM people you're interested in questing with, and most will gladly write something with you :D

As for the updates, the flight is still too good. Even a few hours of constant flight is a lot. I was thinking more like 10 minutes or so, which is still quite a lot if you think about it. Unless she plans on flying from continent to continent, this shouldn't be too much of a bother.

I guess as long as I can make it normal in one level thats fine. Its just that flight is what she is made to do. She glides with wind currents like an eagle thats why I put it at 2 hours and such. Will ten to twenty mins be fine?

Yep, that's good. Sorry about that, but it woud've been unfair to let you have that much flight capability when I always make people limit it. Let me know if you want to quest with any of my characters or anything.

Approved!
