His trench coat swished around his person with every step he took.

It was snowing, but then again in Salvar, it always snowed.

Times were tough all over Althanas, and for someone like Elthas Belthasar, a Coronian...it was easy to forget the problems of other regions. But now, Salvar had become a second home ever since the events that took place during Forral's invasion. Salvar had a new island mass, and a new group of Heroes ready to step up and defend it from all sorts of threats. Elthas was leader of The Trading Company. As he stood there, in the city of Pestovo he was realizing the gravity of the situation. A group of Heroes like himself had risen up to fend off an army of Orcs guided by a mysterious master known only as Forral. Elthas had gained control of the island fortress, and most important, a new base for The Trading Company. The group of Heroes had consisted of Elthas and sever others, including Talen Shadowwalker, and ally from The Red Six. Elthas kept that allegiance to himself and counted it as his own personal affairs. Talen had always been a fair ally and straight shooter with him. As he stood there, Elthas assessed the architectural quality of the Salvarns. In the few short months that Elthas had taken over Forral's fortress, he had not the needed moment to truly take in the beauty in Salvar.

So at that point, he decided to really stop and appreciate everything his eyes were spotting. The buildings were designed to be me miniature fortresses in their own right. The cold black materials that comprised each building were likely some variant of the stone bricks used in Corone towns. It was cold, but the cold didn't bother him since he was adequately dressed for the weather. His traditional fedora hat was finely crafted and worn at a slight angle to cover his face. Also, he was smoking. Plumes of smoke rose up from his smoking pipe that carried with it a strong scent. The scent of the cannibus herb, or one of it's many variant families. Elthas enjoyed smoking, it calmed his nerves down and it kept him warm.

As he moved his trench coat, constructed from fine black leather, moved with him. He was all business, wearing a Radasanth cut three piece suit. The vest and the shirt were double breasted and the ensemble had fancy embroidery. Elthas's eyes were narrowed as he looked about.

I never would have thought that I would be out here, working out of Salvar...

Elthas had worked to develop contacts in Pestovo. He was a very serious man, very calculative and detail oriented. As soon as he had control of the fortress, he reached out to the leaders of Pestovo. Etlhas and his companion, Invetisto, were seen with the adventure party that helped retain control of the fortress. Since his time there, he'd worked with the city of Pestovo developing a trade route, and offering resources and other financial aide. Elthas never forgot the blood that the fortress had. Over two hundred Pestovo citizens had died during the initial invasion of Forral's orcs, and a result of the sea monster that had also attacked. Elthas had intricate understanding of how the fortress worked, it's control mechanism, and what was required to work it's properties.

He took a deep pull of the cannibus herb as he looked at the central government/leadership building in Pestovo.

Elthas noticed a large crowd of folks gathered outside of the building, but nobody attempted to interrupt him.

It was already known that Elthas and The Trading Company were welcome allies.

"Papers, please." Came the official's voice in that monotone way that usually pissed most folks off.

Elthas looked up to the burly Salvarn fellow, he was clearly a guard. "Aye." Elthas said and handed the documents over to the guard for inspection.

"Hey..." The guard suddenly motioned to one of his fellows. "It's him...the one they are all talking about."

Elthas sighed but mostly kept his cool. He had business with the mayor that couldn't wait but he understood that people were on edge and needed a Hero to guide them. Elthas tipped his hat politely in the general direction of the guards. "I have business with the mayor."

"You're early..." The guard said with an inquisitive expression.

"I know. I don't like to keep people waiting." Elthas said with just the slightest hint of frustration.

The official caught the hint. His partner, didn't. "You may pass, the papers check out. And by the way, Elthas..." The guard stepped closer to him. "I want to personally thank you, I lost a brother to those Orcs that attacked, you really came through for us."

"It's what any of my people would have done." Elthas said truthfully in response.

Once the gathered crowd realized that it was Elthas standing there, the commotion stopped and they all drew steadily closer. "It's really him!" One of the Salvarns said.

"Heard he took out twenty Orcs by himself." One fellow said.

"No must have been fifty!" Another said.

"My sister and both my parents died in the attacks..." Another said.

"I lost people too." Another said, and Elthas could feel the agitation in the crowd already growing.

But rather than ignore the plight of the people, Elthas decided to embrace it. "Peace." He began. "Be at peace. The fortress is no longer a thread and every last Orc that was summoned with the fortress has been disposed of." Elthas said truthfully. "My guild has full command of the fortress and it's workings now."

Every one gathered now looked at Elthas. "We've had Heroes come and abandon us before..." One of the older gathered said.

"I assure you I am here to stay." Elthas said calmly. "I am willing to provide material assistance to assist in the renovation and restoring of Pestovo." Elthas said calmly. "Further, I am here to insure you all that The Trading Company will not ever leave you folks." Elthas was a simple man and simple men craved simple things. In that instance, he wanted to help where nobody else was stepping up to do so. He spoke with the gathered a bit longer, to help calm things down and then moved towards the guard. "I will be back to speak to everyone shortly, I really must speak to the mayor." Elthas said. He waved his hand towards the gathered crowd in parting, and walked up to the central office building.

"So that's your plan?" The mayor was a studious individual, Salvarn in origin.

"I can provide material support to areas of Pestovo that immediately need it following typical Trading Company practices. All I ask in return are the basic contract obligations." Elthas had placed The Trading Company contract on the mayor's desk. Both gentlemen were smoking leisurely.

"Fifty percent on earnings is kind of steep." The mayor said truthfully. "We're in a bit of a jam since the fortress attacked us."

"I understand that. But look at what you're going to be gaining as a result. Material support, jobs for a brighter tomorrow, and most importantly, the trust of the people." All I am asking in return in a usual fifty percent cut of the profit.

"It's non negotiable?" The mayor asked.

"Time is money as you know." Elthas took a deep pull of his smoking pipe and exhaled through his nostrils. "I'm willing to provide all the material support needed to assist in the rebuilding of Pestovo. Most other guilds would ask for way more than that, fifty percent is standard practice."

"So let me get this straight. You provide the physical materials, and the man hours, and we help rebuild Pestovo after the attack?" The mayor asked.

"Not just that, but we rebuild the lives of the people. Good infrastructure provides an even better work force." Elthas said confidently. "It's a good deal. A lot of my rivals would not have attempted to help you in such a way, I would like to point out. The loyalty of the people you enjoy so much is on edge. You see it everywhere in the eyes of the common man, everyone is desperate and needs help. Help The Trading Company can provide." Elthas said carefully, he didn't want to sound too over bearing.

The Mayor rubbed his chin thoughtfully. After careful consideration, he signed the contract and Elthas was on his way.

About a week later...

The island fortress of the trading company was fully operational.

Elthas was actively taking jobs, and helping to fix what the Orc invaders and the mysterious sea monster had destroyed. On that particular Tuesday, Elthas heard a knock on his door.

"Come." Elthas responded, he was eating his lunch.

"Sir Elthas." Came the young woman's voice.

Elthas looked up from his sandwich he was eating, and put it down after wiping his face with a napkin. He chewed quickly and swallowed, and took a pull of some hot tea that sat in a chalice next to him.

"It's my mother. She has fallen ill and needs a remedy." The young woman's name was Jasha. Elthas knew just about EVERY major family living in Pestovo by then. Elthas got up. "Is it the flu?" Elthas was not a doctor, but some of his prominent members of The Trading Company were skilled alchemists.

"I'm not sure." Jasha said calmly. "The Pharmacy is out of supplies and the herbologists are working as fast as they can to restock the pharmacy. But I'm afraid my mother doesn't have that long."

Elthas put on his coat, and his hat. "I'll fetch the company doctor and some of my alchemists."

He left with Yasha to go to Pestovo which was the closest Salvarn city to The Trading Company's fortress.

He put out word to his most skilled alchemists to join him in the job at hand.

A life needed saving.

Unlike the elven leader of the guild, Fox had little interest in the rebuilding effort. If the idiots wanted to live in this frozen wasteland, they could freeze to death for all he cared. The only reason why he remained in this forsaken place was due to unique herbs and plants only found in this environment. However, once he had gathered his share, the potion crafter would leave on the first boat, ship, carriage, or on his legs if required.

If the white hell outside wasn’t enough to ruin his mood, there was a heavy stamping of boots followed by a loud banging on the oaken door. Taking a deep breath, the kitsune resisted the temptation to scream out a curse and instead, answer the uninvited guest. “Yes? What is your business? I hope it is important since I’m already exhausted after spending yesterday gathering ingredients.”

At the sound of Fox’s voice, the banging was replaced by the heavy low voice that the alchemist recognized as one of the lead foremen that Elthas had brought to help lead the rebuilding effort. “Mr. Fox. Sir Elthas requests your presence at once,” came the commanding voice of the half giant.

“Humph… Can’t someone else help out? If it is a magician that is needed, there should be plenty other skilled people,” the kitsune let out a sigh of frustration as he finally opened the door to let the freezing aura invade his den.

“No Sir,” came the quick response. “It’s Jesa’s mother who has caught a severe illness. You are one of the best healer and thus your assistance is required.”

Confronted with the merciless reply, the kitsune grudgingly agreed so that the hulking figure would move on. “Just my luck. Seriously, how about I just send her on to a better life? Much easier than spending time constantly caring for people just to have them die a few years later. Seriously, being evil seems so much easier and pays better. I don’t run a charity unlike what people seem to think,” were thoughts from Fox’s foul mood as he followed in the wake of the guide.
