I've had enough people interested now to be able to move forward with this, so I'm going to set out my proposals for format below. Hopefully if everyone agrees, we can get this league up and running!

Registration closes at 10pm on Sunday 21st June. Teams can be edited until that point.

Registered players

Shinsou Vaan Osiris
hoytti
Blackandblueeyes
Lye
Ioder
Christoph
Rehtul

System Requirements

We will use a mix of both 3DS and browser software to play the league.

Pokemon X / Y
Pokemon Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire
Pokemon Showdown for non 3DS players (link) (http://pokemonshowdown.com/)

Battle Format

Battles will be LV 50 single battles and you may enter a team of up to 6 legal Pokemon.

Battles will be scheduled to take place within a week of the fixture being announced. For the purpose of clarity, our week will run from Monday to Saturday. The League will be updated on Sunday.

For example, if Shinsou Vaan Osiris is due to battle BlackandBlueEyes in Week 1, then that fixture must be mutually agreed for a convenient time and played before the Sunday.

Fixtures are to be decided by lottery in week 1.

Items

All items including Mega Stones are legal.

Squad size

You may register 12 Pokemon to use in your squad for the duration of the season.

Illegal Pokemon

As per usual tournament rules, the following Pokemon are illegal and are not allowed to be in your team:

Mewtwo
Mew
Lugia
Ho-Oh
Celebi
Groudon
Kyogre
Rayquaza
Jirachi
Deoxys
Cresselia
Regigigas
Dialga
Palkia
Giratina
Darkrai
Shaymin
Arceus
Manaphy
Phione
Zekrom
Reshiram
Kyurem / Black Kyurem / White Kyurem
Genesect
Victini
Xerneas
Yveltal
Zydoss
Diancie
Volcanion
Hoopah

The League

You win the league by getting the most points. The scoring system is:

3pts for a win
1pt for a draw

Secondary to that will be the Pokemon KO's that you make. After each match, the winner posts up his or her result and how many Pokemon were KO'd from their team. If, at the end of the league, there is a tie on points, the winner will be the one who has the best KO difference (the most Pokemon KO'd and the least lost).

Disconnections

If you disconnect or quit, you will forfeit the match, unless your opponent grants you a rematch. Please make sure you have a stable connection before your match!

Curious as to the decision to ban hold items that aren't Mega Stones.

This isn't me taking my (Smoke) ball and going home; I'm just wondering.

I will edit in my team later.

I may have to get in on this. I have a boatload of poke that are legal and a fair dosage of shinies.

That's actually an error. I'll amend, it was copied and pasted from my last failed attempt at a league!

I would be down for this if we were able to use Pokemonshowdown, as I lack a 3DS. It's also easier on people who can't spend 8 hours a day IV grinding. >_>

I haven't got a clue what that is mate, and to be honest I simply don't have the time to sit down for 8 hours a day IV grinding.

It's an online, browser-based pokemon battling simulator, which functions (mechanically-speaking) exactly like battling in the regular game, except you can make your team in the program instead of spending a bajillion hours grinding in-game. It's also very easy to save any number of replays, making it perfect for something like this.

I've had a brief look, and it looks quite good. Pros and cons:

Pros

- You avoid hours of grinding and the cost of the equipment.
- Everyone can use it
- You can build every squad you can think of
- You can save replays

Cons

The problem is people have invested a lot of time and money into buying the games and building their teams. I'm not one of these over-the-top competitors at the top level who IV grind and have specific damage formulas worked out, and at the end of the day I do it for fun and I try to win using tactics with the ones i've raised. (A bit beside the point, but I knew a guy who won the UK regionals using a 6IV Calm Mind Suicune. It worked but it bored the fuck out of everyone and I remember being sat there thinking "What's the point?")

I'm not suggesting that's the final say, as I want everyone to have an opinion, but I would much prefer to use the equipment i've got with the squads i've built. I will however go with the flow.

What does everyone else think? Do we go with this or do we stick to 3DS format?

3ds format. I enjoy it better.

BlackAndBlueEyes

I prefer the 3DS format, but I would play either way.

Out of here with your future machines y'nerd! We prefer our handhelds! We're traditionalists to the very first gameboy! Never forget your first!

(Still need to check my teams.)

Well, since Pokemonshowdown is the only format I can use right now, that kinda narrows my preference down. That said, even if I had a 3DS, I would prefer Showdown because it doesn't give the advantage to those with significantly more free time. No one is going to win purely because they were able to grind more -- it becomes all about strategy and tactics (and GODDAMN CRITS ARGH), as it should be. It's also more flexible, allowing people to try out different teams and tactics more easily.

It would also allow for a more active and diverse pool of players, as those who played in Gen 4 or 5, for instance, could still get back into it without spending a bunch of money. In addition, the ease of creating new teams would allow for all sorts of theme matches and team challenges (mono-type, building around certain pokemon, or some other restrictions to make things interesting).

If I owned a 3DS, I wouldn't care as much, though I'd still prefer Showdown. As I don't own a 3DS, Showdown is my only option, so otherwise I'll have to look on longingly from the poor side of the fence. :(

Given Chris's desire to play, why don't we do both? When any of us fight each other, we use 3DSes. When we fight him, we jump on showdown. Showdown is incredibly easy to use, and we all get to play.

To be fair I was thinking the same yesterday. There is a facility to make our own team and all we have to do is copy our squad moves and names over. I wouldn't want Chris to miss out.

If we are all happy to do that then we'll go with that. Chris do you want to let us know your squad mate?

Also, just a reminder that you all have until Sunday to decide on your final teams. I've made a few changes to mine already, so if you aren't happy with what you have make sure to change it.

Ok, just need either a friend code or confirmation that you will be using Pokeshowdown. Also you are allowed a squad of 12 so feel free to add to that.

I'll have to recede as well. A certain someone started a new game. Hence, my team is nothing but 0's and 1's in the wind.
