On the outside, Karai is a bright and cheery teenage girl who wouldn’t harm a worm. She Loves to talk with strangers and go on adventures every day. However, she has an ulterior motive. She seeks out crowds and feeds on negative emotions. Her family life has scarred her deeply, and the development of her abilities certainly didn’t help. She has learned to manipulate people, how to understand their fears and anxieties. She does not usually seek to cause harm, but those who cross her are often left questioning reality.
Karai is a sociopath, a trait she has hidden incredibly well. Faux empathy comes easy to Karai, and no one would be the wiser.
History:
Karai was born into a rather affluent family in Salvar, but never could understand why. Her parents simply told her they were well off enough to afford what they did, and no one would bother them. They left her with various nannies, slowly warping the girl’s mind as she grew up understanding that she was only born to be used as a pawn in some game of politics.
Her parents simply had many friends in positions to political whispers, granting them an underhanded advantage in trade and government. Karai learned of this fact not too long after discovering her abilities, and never paid enough mind to care. She was rich, spoiled, and demanding in every way.
She left any of her suitors a broken mess, bringing shame to families hoping to gain political footholds. Karai’s parents were never able to understand how so many men would be unwilling to marry her, and often attempted to sway Karai into being more personable.
Karai, however, had never felt more alive than when she walked through the minds of boys, calmly telling them of how their anxieties made them worthless, eventually whittling them down to shreds. She discovered whilst destroying a man’s mind that she slowly began to change physically. Her skin grew dark and ashy, horns growing from her head. She had become a demon, sucking the negative energy from her prey. After some experimentation, she understood that with a little bit of concentration, she could make these changes happen at will.
Soon, she was terrorizing everyone in sight, luring young girls to inns with promises of love and companionship only to leave them heartbroken. She took men by the collar into alleys as a woman whom couldn’t be refused, only to show them their wives’ faces once her corset had come off.
Her reign of terror came to an end when she pushed a clergyman into his private office and a choirboy witnessed her begin to change. She would have been put to the gallows or burned at the stake for her witchery, but she managed to seduce her guard and killed him in the night. She took his armor and a horse from the stable, and rode to the nearest town before repeating her act. She made it all the way to Knife’s Edge in this fashion.
Since, she has made her way using her abilities, believing she is able to transform by feeding off the negative emotions she can so easily elicit.

Karai can shapeshift to and from any humanoid form, changing her skin color, height, weight, and features(bone structure, gender). Her transformation takes up to a full minute of concentration depending on the complexity of the change, but is otherwise effortless. She may change her form once every hour, but is limited to five transformations per day. She can maintain her form indefinitely, though being knocked unconscious causes her to revert to her natural form(sleep does not apply). These changes are purely aesthetic, and Karai retains her own traits no matter her form.
Telepathy:
Karai can read the thoughts and feelings of normal beings passively. She is acutely aware that this ability is not normal, but is unable to understand why or how to truly control the ability. On beings that do not find her threatening or as an enemy, she requires no effort to read thoughts or communicate; hostile entities will require much more concentration, however. Because of this, enemies will be able to feel this invading presence and fight against it. Those trained in telepathy or psychic abilities will have an easy time blocking her out.
