History: Five hundred and forty years ago, in the Catacombs beneath Scara, an old enemy awoke. Hidden beneath the idyllic city for centuries, the Forgotten One Oblivion arose to a world much changed since the War of the Tap. Branded a coward by Apotheosis, Pode, Xem’Zund, and Denebriel, the Memorymancer put a scheme into motion.

He approached a troupe of actors and bohemians that lived in the Novello Slums of Old Scara Brae. The five principle members worshipped a lesser Thayne called Tantalus, God of Bards, and avatar of Scara Brae’s people. To ensure his survival, scared of his sibling’s hatred, he shattered his own soul into five shards and embedded them into the troupe.

As the troupe forgot who they were they forgot Tantalus as well. The Thayne was easily overwhelmed by Oblivion. He sealed away his final essence in the Tap itself, and reshaped it into a dimension that would be known as The Aria in centuries to come. Oblivion used this imagery to enslave the troupe, binding them in a spell of forgetting that would ensure his life was everlasting.

Three hundred years passed. Each death the troupe suffered brought them a new life, reincarnated into a new character dreamed by Oblivion. He was too proud to realise that Tantalus was reforming in The Aria. After centuries of suffering and wasting away to nothing, the god of Bards stole his first victory. He made the bard Duffy Bracken remember who he was.

Lillith, Arden, and Ruby followed soon after. Soon, the troupe remembered fully, and began a campaign of attrition against the Forgotten Ones in search of Oblivion’s true resting place, and for a solution to their enslavement. The events of those years are too numerable to recall, and the troupe have vowed to find new lives to live now they are free at last.

They have been many people. A mute, a thief, a swordsman, a murderer, an assassin, a vagabond, a hero of Scara Brae, and a spirit warder. Fighting against Oblivion has rekindled the true nature of the Silent Swordsman, and in recent months, he finally found a way to break free from Oblivion’s curse and carve out a history of his own.

Whilst Oblivion successfully wrote the lives of the troupe in stone, he did not write their deaths. He dared to think that he was undefeatable. What he did not count on was the strength of the bond shared between five unlikely heroes. Though the Tantalum troupe may well be dead, the five men and women that inspired revolutions and riots are only just beginning their journeys.

Skills:

Enforcer: Arden can coerce people to follow commands. He can attempt to sway the acts of others to his advantage or scare them into line.

Acrobat: Arden can escape bonds and cells. He can loosen himself from ropes, pick locks, and climb steep walls.

Broker: Arden knows the secrets of Corone and Scara Brae’s criminal underworld. He can use this knowledge to access black markets.

Samurai: Arden’s skill with single-handed blades is legendary. He understands concepts of swordplay, defence, and movement.

Abilities:

The Aria: Arden’s manifestation of the Tap takes a destructive form. He consumes minds, voices, and ideas. He is the embodiment of ‘Writer’s Block’.

• Erase: Arden can erase ten written words (ink, sand, blood etc.) per second. He cannot erase text created by magical means.

• Blink: Arden blinks from existence for two seconds. He moves with the same momentum if mobile. Five uses per thread.

Street Fighter: Arden’s speed is X2. He is tolerant of pain and his physical endurance is X3. He can run tirelessly.

Blood Magic: Arden uses the forbidden Blood Magic of Akashiman spirit warders. This draws on the life force found in living things:

• Rage: Each kill gives one rage point. When Rage is eight he gets +3 strength but becomes feral. Rage lasts until unconsciousness or death.

• Rise: Arden can summon blood wings from a wound. They require a post to create and allow clumsy gliding for two posts. Costs one rage point.

• Reunion: Blood drawn with Fang allows Arden to resurrect consenting allies within an hour of death. It costs five rage points.

• Ruin: By cutting a palm, Arden gifts that arm with +3 strength for three posts. It costs one rage point, and is useable once per day.
