Age: 22

Eye Color: Gold/Blue
Height: 5’11”
Weight: 165 lbs
Occupation: Nomadic Knight

Appearance
Zadkael stands at a lean six-foot, topped with long brown hair kept in a neat braid. He was given a light complexion by the winters of his home. He keeps himself dressed in simple clothes: Black pants, white billowy shirt, and a blue leather jerkin. However, upon first gazing at him, one quality stands out among the rest, should he let you see it: his eyes. His eyes are most alien; they seem to be solid gold orbs covered with complex, flowing etches and in the center sits the black abyss of his pupils.

History
Zadkael’s early life was nothing spectacular. He would wake at the crack of dawn in order to work his late father’s forge, hammering steel and iron into horseshoes, plows, or whatever the town needed. His father had taught him to work metal – copper, steel, Damascus. He had made his own tools, and even his sword. It wasn’t some clunky slab of metal one could find in common market. It was a graceful work of art. Something he had poured his soul into.
His lessons were the only thing he had left of his dad. Ironically, he and his father never interacted while he lived, sans his blacksmith lessons, something Zadkael still held malice against him for. Despite that, he continued his blacksmith work, refined it, and honed it. His mother maintained that he was more skilled than her husband. He just worked on, confused by his mixed feelings.
Whenever his hours weren’t devoted to the forge, Zad served the nearby steward-lord. There he had laboured long and hard, in stables, and on the joust field. It was not long before the lord had noticed him, for his humble and hard work. Breaking tradition the steward-lord, Earl Endelon, and his knights began mentoring the common boy. They refined his swordplay, and taught him courtly etiquette. The earl inspired Zadkael with his quiet wisdom and respect. Never did he raise his voice, and never did he need to. He commanded his knights’ utmost loyalty and respect, and was wise to heed their council in return.
Despite his good fortunes, winds of chance shifted. In Zadkael’s 21st year he awoke from a strange dream one morning. After gaining complete consciousness, he came upon his mother, like any other day, who went into a full on panic upon gazing upon him. “Your eyes” she had said, full of fear. He searched for a pool of water and looked at his reflection. They had changed; they were their new gold hue. He immediately went to the earl and asked for his wisdom. News had traveled fast, however, and the village and the church had formed a mob to purify this curse. Faced with little in the way of options, the earl set Zadkael to run, rather than let the deacon have his way with the fire.
Soon after, Zad began to develop small peculiarities; he could sense the feelings of others if he thought about it. Furthermore, he had learned that he could mask his alien eyes, preventing people from seeing their true nature. Ever since that day he has been on the run, searching for answers, ever since, with not the faintest idea on where to go but forward.

Skills
Blacksmithy
Zadkael was taught by his father, and then his mother, the basics of running the forge. He has made his own tools and even his own longsword.
Swordwork
Sword
All knights’ training includes the basic use of a sword. As such, Zadkael has learned to wield his own with sufficiency.
Sword and Shield
Having trained in the Endelonian court, this form is Zadkael’s specialty.
Case swords
Being able to fight with two swords is not something Zad is all too familiar with, he much prefers sword & shield, but can hold is own, barely.

Powers
Concealment
After his town’s spiteful reaction to his ‘curse’, Zadkael learned that he can conceal his golden eyes with the image of normalcy. The concealing image always portrays light-blue eyes, despite their pre-transformation color being brown.
Empathy
Zadkael is capable of reading, very roughly, the basic emotions of any one person he “examines” for a moment. He cannot, for the time being, read anything deeper than basic emotion. No sense of direction or motivation for the feeling.
Sword-Link
Zadkael is always aware of the direction and rough distance to his blade, as long as it is within a few-mile radius.

Equipment
Longsword
The sword that he forged with lessons learned from his father. It is a slender longsword; a 32 inch long blade, and an 8 inch long blue-leather wrapped grip. The crossguard is fashioned in a manor resembling an olive-leaf crown, ending in two blue-quartz gems. The pommel resembles a closed rose blossom holding another larger blue-quartz gem upon the edge of its petals.
Kite Shield
Given to him by one of the knights of Earl Endelon, his kite shield bears the crest of his earldom: Green and brown with crossed golden keys.
Cross of Knighthood of the realm of Endelon
Zadkael, despite being a merchanter, has been given the rights of knighthood by the Earl of Endelon. He is a peer of the realm and this cross, given to all peers, is proof of it.
