Maia
11-16-15, 11:13 AM
(OOC: Completely rewritten profile for Level 5, jumping 2 updates.)

Name: Maia Kristel
Race: Roughly Human (Spirit Magi)
Gender: Female
Age: Unsure. Early twenties at best guess, but unlikely
Height: 5’7
Weight: 156 with magic activated, 780 without.
Hair Color: Golden blond
Eye Color: Sparkling Blue
Epithets: Wyrd Witch, Spirit Magi, Maia, The Weird, Scholar.

Appearance:

Maia’s appearance is soft and of average height, far from the “rugged” adventurer she once was. Despite her own adamant denial, she’s put on more than just magical weight since semi-retiring, softening her overall look and adding a small amount of pudge. She’s aware of her own curvaceous form however, often moving with confidence and the ease of someone who doesn’t particularly care about other’s opinions. It remains unblemished by scars despite her history of violent situations and history of less savory professions. A considerable amount of time inside and pouring over magic books and histories has been mitigated by longer walks. She is not as tan as she once was, and often looks pale compared to other more outgoing folks. Her face is still angelic, hair managing to keep a brilliant sheen even in more dire circumstances; a result of both vanity and several minor cantrips from her study at Istien University. Her long hair is often worn up in a complicated bun, using whatever she has at hand to keep it contained. With her glasses, attached by a string of prevailda beads, it often gives the woman a scholarly air. She still wears her heart on her sleeve, often betraying how she feels at any given moment.

Her sense of fashion has veered more towards practical over time. While working, an apron with pockets over sensible breeches and a shirt patched together so often the original material has been forgotten pulled over her head. Since buying a large home in Salvar after escaping Raiera, she’s amassed quite a collection of clothes, something of a vice. Her preference tends towards light blues, reds and whites. She often wears her jewelry while in fine company; the golden hoops on her wrist with rare gems, several rings depending on her mood, and the adamantine pendent that never leaves her neck.

History

The latest adventures of Maia Kristel have been almost none at all. After escaping from Raiera during the height of Xem’Zund’s attack and then providing the elven nation with information regarding Xem’Zund, Maia traveled extensively. While she encountered a number of small bumps in the road, Her travels were mostly forgettable. Using some of her funds, skimmed from the books of the Bandit Brotherhood and the Black Sails Armada, she was able to buy two homes. One of these, her primary residence, is in Salvar. The other is in the countryside of Alerar, and about half a day’s walk to the smog ridden city of Ettermire.

Skills:

Weapon Skill: Maia’s skill with weaponry has deteriorated somewhat over time. Her skill at throwing knives and boomerangs has stayed roughly the same, able to hit smaller targets from roughly 15 feet away. While defending herself, she shows more prowess, though how much is from her own unique abilities and how much from hard earned skill is up to debate. Despite her adequate practical skill, she has mastered quite a few impressive parlor tricks with her knives.

CQC: A skill picked up from her stay in the Bandit Brotherhood and polished in the Black Sails Armada, it has not suffered as much as her talent at weaponry. Maia’s hands are practical and efficient, masterfully able to throw her own weight around. Even the most skilled, armed, and agile opponent are highly likely to be caught off guard by her simple, but brutally effective movements and offer a chance for the witch to escape. It is almost entirely defensive in nature, and its user is unlikely to win any extended fight against even average opponents.

Physical Capabilities: Despite her general neglect (or in spite of), Maia’s physical capabilities remain staunchly average. She has managed to remain slightly above-average in agility, and extremely flexible. A curious side effect though, is she is able to lift her own, unmodified weight with some strain.

Singing: Trained at Istien University, Maia has an elegant voice that could theoretically sing for her supper at most inns. She never found much natural talent for it, and only practices to keep her song magic in top form.

Dancing: Maia’s dancing skills, the one named her the best dancer in Corone, remain honed to a razor edge. It might be her only consistent exercise.

Mental Capabilities: Something that has not been forgotten in Maia’s retirement, her mind is as sharper than any blade. It has progressed to the point where the woman has an intuitive grasp of almost any object she can hold. Given enough time, she would be able reproduce most magical spells and systems of power without much issue; having broken them down to their most base parts, and rebuilt them. Whether a physical item or a magical system, Maia will eventually be able to understand and break it down. She almost always forced to rely on others to actively produce any of her designs for non-magical items, and often finds it distasteful to do so.

While she does not quite have an eidetic memory, she always keeps excellent notes on what she works on what she does. Her own shorthand and terrible handwriting make them difficult to follow and even harder to decipher. Compounding this is her extremely scattered way of thinking, making long logical jumps and call backs almost at random.

Abilities:

Touch of the Spirit Magi: A little known power, and pure in the most literal form. Maia’s spirit, or soul as some would call it, is Innocent. Her touch is cleansing, able to wipe away dirt and grime from someone’s face, or forgive their past sins. She does this by taking them into herself, collecting them and carrying their burden until her body is able wipe the slate clean once again. Cleansing another person often brings about changes to the woman, a fact she’s come to find more and more distasteful as time went on. A stronger willed person will end up changing the woman for days at a time, her body producing their own magics and traits, sometimes physically and sometimes mentally.

She has had to deal with the ramifications before, often having to make amends to counter the various hexes, curses and sins she absolves. Her own stores of magic and understanding tends to increase with each time she does so, however distasteful he results are. Rarely, Maia is forced to take more than the corrupted portions of someone’s spirit. Such an action often has extremely amplified repercussions, lasting weeks at a time, and leaving her victim enraged, but also amplifying Maia’s own power exponentially at the cost of losing herself for some time. Despite the effects, it takes several minutes to prepare and is easily interrupted, rendering it useless for any combat. A curious side effect is that those who are defined by their pain and sins could theoretically be utterly devastated by Maia’s hand.

Healing: The regeneration of Maia Kristel was once something near legendary. However, most of the legend was twisted from stories of a cut that looked far worse than it actually was or a bump that wasn’t as dangerous as it seemed. Her body naturally heals much more quickly than the average person, to the point where minor bruises and scrapes close within a few moments. Larger, deeper cuts would close without a scar after about an hour, and even broken bones would naturally reset within two or three. After one particularly disastrous event, she regrew her right forearm from the elbow down. It was also the most singularly painful two weeks of Maia’s life, and something she tries to keep hidden from anyone wanting to do her harm. She doesn’t have any superhuman ability to ignore pain, and the healing process is often more painful. She has never intentionally tested it; a killing blow would not be permanent, and Maia would eventually recover after an appropriate amount of time.

Font of Power: Maia Kristel is overflowing and brimming with power, unrefined and unaligned. Should someone figure out a way to harness it, they could use Maia to power nearly any magic ritual, spell or even some of the rumored technological advancements in Alerar. Maia’s only real benefit, aside from a smug understanding of the power, is she is never fatigued by casting her own spells. She’s unable to properly tap into it, rendering it more of a bragging right. In the off chance someone attempts to overload the girl with power, they would almost certainly find her to be a functionally limitless vessel. She is particularly easy to find by scanning for magic even from a great distance, and her future is blinding to those who look into it.

Magical Cantrips: A fairly extensive collection of smaller cantrips that Maia has amassed and designed over time from a multitude of magical sources. They can be anything from a small Hex to to help start a fire, to Tap magic that helps clean her clothes, to even a small summoning from other realms to provide a thick sweater in cold weather. Special note goes to a wide breadth of magic that could only be described as vanity spells, and Maia’s education at the Istien University making Song Magic her preferred method of casting.

Ritualization: Long study and experimentation of both magic and the world of Althanas has had its uses. With the consultation of her books and notes, Maia can reasonably emulate nearly any other form of magic given some time. While not particularly useful for short term, for experimentation and for specific use cases it can be invaluable. It will often take at least a quarter of an hour for her to prepare, rendering it useless in any short term battle.

Featherlight: A spell first learned in Istien University before the fall of Xem’zund, Maia’s altered this spell far beyond the initial design. With it, she is able to reduce her weight to 1/6 of its actual weight. Maia’s modifications to the spell’s design have allowed her to activate and deactivate it at will. While not much practical use, it can turn a normal blow into something far more deadly, and timed right can allow Maia to leap far and high into the air with some prep time. While there is potential for it to be used on other people, the long cast time of two minutes makes such an action unfeasible.

Crystal Light: A small school of pure power, unaligned with any significant style or practice of magic. This is the witch’s personal pet project. She has only recently begun to utilize as something more than theoretical, replacing old skills and even body parts with it. Despite its obvious use, it has been designed to be a purely neutral force of power. As much as she would like to deny the ability, she can simply point with a finger and shoot it like a common, if devastating, fireball spell. She feels it is wasted usage of such a monumental project, but being able to blow away a particularly vicious assailant has its use cases, even if she runs the risk of dislocating her shoulder with each casting. She can also combine individual castings of this magic into a single use, building the power up for larger targets, but at three charges the force of the blow would break her arm. She’s never tried more than four.

Thus far, Maia has figured out two distinct spells for The Crystal light that she’s much more proud of. She has yet to figure out how to utilize both at once, though her previous experiments with it have resulted in disastrous, if humorous, results.

Wings of Light: Two massive, glowing wings form behind Maia, floating in the air and even bobbing slightly as she walks. They are made of the solid power of the Crystal Light, and exhibit the Each can move independently, much like her own arms, and with a running start can even lift her unmodified weight into the air for a short, if extremely tiring flight. With the featherlight spell, Maia can fly for about twenty exhausting minutes with a nice breeze. She finds more use utilizing the wings each as a single use shield. Each wing could survive a single blow before shattering into fine transient chunks of power. A curious application of note, is that by bracing herself and deactivating Featherlight, a single sweep of her wings could blow away most lighter foes with the power of her wings. The witch has found that while she can create a single set easily, it takes nearly half an hour for her to find to focus to perform it again as quickly. In particularly stressful situations, Maia will often flounder trying to recall the wings after their initial usage.

Crystal Armor: Only recently mastered to the point of usefulness, Maia has been able to replicate the prevalida of Salvar for a very short time. She can grow the semi-translucent armor out of her very skin. This armor is extremely heavy, hard, sharp and brittle. It will snap after a single blow, and the magical construct would dissipate if it managed to get further than arms reach from Maia. Almost exclusively defensive, She has only every managed to create the rough equivalent of a breastplate once per hour. With some time to focus, she could almost create a short sword from out of her forearm in place of that, or any number of simple tools like screwdrivers, awls, small scalpels or even a hammer.

Written Works:
Book of Vampire: A tome style book about vampires, dealing with their biology, types, nature of their undead attributes and even their notable history. Several long years has lead to Maia correcting and expanding upon the contents within extensively to the point where she could be considered the primary author of the work. It is notably out of date on history however.
An Observation of the Tap: A smaller report by all indications. Maia has studied the Tap directly in a very new format, cataloging it and its rough attributes. This is only a preliminary study of the
The Kristel Report: An innocuous title for the large collection of studies, stolen books and observations primarily of the Forgotten One Xem’zund. Her notes and work on the primary subject are exhaustive and overwhelming. An examination of the necromancer Xem’Zund; including several focuses on the history of the primary subject, a thorough examination of the nature of its magical energies empowering thralls, the source behind this , and a theory of an emulation of its powers, with initial results and suggestions on improvements on the subject’s methodology. She also has two smaller reports on the sorceor Pode and only has a single, small report on Aesphestos, Esthilda and Denebriel. Both roughly detail their location, histories and works, but could be found by anyone who would want to seek them out.

Items of Note:
Belt- a worn leather belt with loops for weaponry and smaller bags. She has owned this same particular belt for nearly her entire life, and it has held up magnificently.
Pouch: A waxed burlap pouch, patched together slightly to stave off time and more than adequate to hold items. Currently it holds a small tool kit, with fine thread, needles, and an assorted small collection of tools.
Pencils: Maia has started always carrying pencils, both of hard and soft leads at all times.
Adamantine pendent: Maia’s oldest possession, though the metal holding the prize inside has changed several times over her life. The artisanal work hangs in a loop around her neck, and would not be out of place in a noble’s banquet.
Glasses: A gift from her good friend Uruviel, they don’t do anything to improve Maia’s vision. However, they are comfortable to wear, and will both allow her to read in low light and shade automatically in bright light. Fallien glass onto a delicate prevailda frame with beads. It’s a masterfully made item and something Maia treasures.

Weaponry:
Dagger: A titanium dagger, forged in Alerar, well kept to the point where its almost new, and slightly longer than the average dagger.
Free Blade: A prevalida dagger enchanted to cause three times as much damage to those who wish to cause Maia harm. While effective, this is not the primary purpose of the blade. It has actually be enchanted in the Istien school to burn and sever Undead when they are cut by it. Maia finally had the old blade fixed, though she needs to remember to rewrap the handle so that it’s even usable.
Boomerang: Three iron boomerangs, wrapped together and jangling on her belt. Maia doesn’t often use these anymore, not really enjoying how she would have to catch the razor sharp edge in her bare hand.

Armor:
Demonskin Shirt: a rather problematic shirt, stitched out of leathers from a demon’s skin. She has at least confirmed that it wasn’t one of the citizens of Haidia, but she has been unable to actually find the original owner. It is currently dyed white, and Maia often wears it as an undershirt for protection when out doing particularly dangerous work
Vlince Skirt: A long skirt with slits on the side letting Maia run. She’s since modified the clothing to have pockets and considers it to be one of her greatest achievements.

Just a note, if you want to get really flexible/agile, then that’ll move into it’s own abilities rather than a skill. I’m guessing you know that, but I like to state the obvious sometimes :D

Can you add in links to where your items were approved/bought? The main items of concern are the titanium and prevalida daggers, the Demon Shirt and Vlince skirt.

With Featherlight, how does it make a blow more deadly? Does it increase weight as well?

With Crystal Light, can you add a bit more detail about the damage it does? It sounds like one blast will be able to take someone out.

With Crystal Armor, Icemold is too high a tier to make. We cap it at prevalida, even with the limited size created.

The skirt, demonskin, titanium dagger are all in this profile. The Free Blade was not specified, so it can drop s needed.

The assorted little prevailda items were gain in a couple old quests I can find, but those are just glasses.

Featherlight can just alter the weight of the blow from very light to Maia's normal weight very quickly after it has been cast, so it's more "suddenly much much heavier" than actually making her

I have edited Crystal Armor to prevailda, instead of ice mold.

For Crystal Light, to clarify. It's the magical equivalent of an average Fireball spell for her level, and a very heavy punch.

Ok, this looks good. There are a few characters that came across to the new ROG system with items without links (or ones they were approved with) so that's no issue. All the new stuff will need to be linked as it comes in.

Your abilities are fine, just don't go crazy with making your Crystal Armor. As I see it, it's as strong as we allow a similar ability to be.

Approved!
