I dreamt I was a butterfly. I couldn't tell if I was dreaming. But when I woke, I was I and not a butterfly. Was I dreaming that I was the butterfly, Or was the butterfly dreaming that it was me?-Quote from Persona series

The face of Rehtul Orlouge haunted him.

It weighed heavily on his mind in recent moons and was preventing him from sleep.

Not that he needed much sleep those days.

The late night hours offered no solace.

Humphrey currently sat in silence in the vessel towards Scara Brae.

A decree from his guild sent him to the foreign nation so he could complete the final portion of his training. The test would determine if he was to become a master Makai Slayer or not. Humphrey's mind was a maelstrom of late. Since the battle against Rehtul Orlouge, he'd done the unthinkable and corrupted the teachings of his people. I am certain that they know already about my battle against Rehtul. If that is the case, why send me on my final trial? And so soon as well? Thaynes be damned I'm cold... The weather on the ocean between Corone and Scara Brae proper was warm. However, Humphrey oft felt cold when he was alone. And it was a piercing kind of maddening cold.

No matter how warm he dressed, the cold was always there.

Humphrey thought of the mission that the elders gave him.

I knew the final trials were a challenge...but this is beyond anything I was expecting to deal with. For his trial, Humphrey knew he would have to face down and ultimately destroy a very powerful enemy. The enemy, was a Demon's Lord. Humphrey knew ranking officers in the castes of all Haidia born were incredibly powerful. They sent me here to die. Why am I so cold? The kitsune oft thought of Rehtul.

The singular thought returned to his mind again and again. As powerful as ever, the imagery was making Humphrey face an ugly truth. The Citadel is making become something I do not like. Humphrey thought to himself as he sat in the darkness of the cargo hold.

He liked being alone, he preferred it.

As Humphrey sat there, he realized that he could not quiet his mind with the teachings of his people.

He sighed.

There were many boxes and large crates of cargo in the ship's main bay. Humphrey did not even care what could potentially be in the crates. They sent me here to die... The thought crossed his mind. I have to come up with a way to conquer this trial and claim my place as a Slayer. As Humphrey stared into the darkness of the cargo bay, something happened. His eyes adjusted to the dark and he saw someone standing in front of him...

Was it a dream? Was I asleep...?

The ship arrived at the docks.

Humphrey stood with a large crowd of passengers, as they prepared to disembark on Scara Brae.

The ramp lead down from the sea bound vessel to the docking area.

Humphrey found himself on the pier and did not speak to anybody present.

He walked, His boots touched the surface of the well constructed pier. It was a warm, ocean-side afternoon. There were only a few clouds in the sky and the sun warmed Althanas properly. Humhrey looked up a moment and saw the sun in the sky, the strong wind came in from a western direction. It was still early afternoon. Humphrey returned his eyes to a more comfortable eye level. As he walked, he noticed that the guards on the pier stared at him. Humphrey didn't really care...he could defend himself.

With narrowed eyes, Humphrey observed everything that he could about the newly discovered Nation.

That particular trial, Humphrey wore the fancy gi-style uniform of his tribe. It was almost like a robe but cut in the traditional Akashiman style. There were crests on his robes that were markings of his people, and allegiance to the Nation of Akashima. The docks were very busy and packed, many dock workers were present taking care of physical labor around the various ships in the area. The strong salty-sea smell of the mist in the air really bothered Humphrey a lot. I don't like this smell...it can mask approaching hostiles. The guards were heavily armed and well equipped. Valeena castle has a strong military. They are very well disciplined. He thought to himself as he walked forward, there were ripples in his large, baggy clothing. The ripples were from the strong wind.

Humphrey passed one of the guards, and did not acknowledge them.

I must complete the trial.... He thought.

Humphrey had a contact in Scara Brae. He was not present when the kitsune swordsman arrived. As he stepped off the docking area, a single guard approached Humphrey. The guard was a burly looking Orc. The fellow had leather tough skin, dark green and glowing blue eyes. His hair was actually combed and well kept. The guard looked at Humphrey right away.

"Lad. Are you from the Slayer's Guild?" The guard asked.

"I have proper documentation with me, and a writ for the target." Humphrey said, his tone was extremely serious.

"You'll want to come with me to the quarter master's office.

Humphrey merely nodded and proceeded to cooperate with the guard.

[b]"You're from Akashima are you not?" The guard asked.

Huphrey did not respond.

"No need for the silent treatment, we're all on the same side.." The guard said as they walked.

"Look. I'm here to do a job." Humphrey suddenly snapped. "If it's all the same to you, I'd like to get this bounty done as soon as possible. My contact said there would be no interference on the job. Can I count on that?" Humphrey asked.

The guard paused for a moment and took a deep, long look at the kitsune. "You're aware of what you're after are you not?" The guard asked.

"I am." Humphrey began saying. "Regardless of the target's nature...I am here to end it." Humphrey said.

"Have you ever seen one?" The guard asked.

"There are truly horrible things in this world we live on. It is my duty to take down each and every last one of them." Humphrey said. "I an here to do a job."

The guard nodded. "You will go far here. Mark my words. And...we are here."
